Kevin kidnaps Yvette to the Waffle House but the waitress isn't as friendly as people usually are when he's with Jennie.

Kevin had kidnapped Yvette to the Waffle House because Jennie wasn't really around to go with him anymore. On the bright side he didn't think anyone was in emotional turmoil between him and his pseudo little sister. Waffle House deserved to see him there when he wasn't busy angsting, though it was nice that he could kidnap Jennie here to decompress when he was. He poked at the menu and frowned. "Why would you want chocolate chips on pancakes?"

"Because chocolate is good?" Yvette suggested innocently. It was hard to see her over the menu she was poring over, just the tips of her hair and her long fingers visible, but the mischievous tone came through loud and clear. Yvette loved going places with Kevin. "Angel says you can never be having too much chocolate."

"Angel is not a bastion of wisdom," he told her solemnly, though it was hard to keep his tone from turning upward. "One day Ah'll make you a chocolate sculpture or somethin'. Ah mean, they sell that stuff in blocks, right? Edible art, all that."

"Somehow I do not think it will be lasting," Yvette replied with a giggle. "Every girl in the mansion would be stealing pieces of it." She made up her mind and lay the menu down, finally able to see Kevin again. "Thank you, for bringing me out here. It has been the long time since we had the time together."

Kevin grinned at her, setting his own menu aside as well because he kept glaring at the chocolate chip pancakes thinking that was wrong. You didn't maim a pancake that way! "Yeah, we've been on sorta opposite schedules with school and school and ELPIS and all, huh? Figured Ah was fallin' down on the job so Ah should kidnap you. Jennie and Ah used to run off here late at night and stuff a lot, actually. But she's more crazed with school than us."

"Yes, I have not seen her around so much lately," Yvette agreed. "So, you are liking the school, then? The new classes?"

"Yeah. Ah was really picky 'bout which teachers Ah wanted to sign up with, but the ones I chose were really cool people and they know what they're talkin' about. Ah've got a drawing class, a sculpture class and a blacksmithing class. We'll see if Ah burn out or not though. It's weird having homework again." It was weird being in New York still, nevermind school.

"Well, you have the classes you will like, which is the good start. And I can always be helping with the homework, if I am having the time." Yvette was feeling her own time crunch, between the team, school, Red X and staying with the New Mutants. "For when you are needing the bolt cutters, yes?"

"Yeah, y'know, if Ah can ever track you down." There was a teasing note in his voice. "The long lost 'Vette. Ah'm gonna need a GPS tracker on you or somethin' just to find you all year." He saw the waitress walking over them and paused in his lamentation of her absence so the pair of them could order.

"Chocolate chip pancakes, please," Yvette said politely to the waitress, apparently not noticing the woman's intake of breath as she took in the sight of a small, red, spiky girl dressed in jeans and a t-shirt over her bodysuit. "And the orange juice."

Kevin might have narrowed his eyes at the waitress just a little bit, daring her to actually be rude to Yvette or say something stupid. Or even to stare. "Waffles and two eggs, please. Scrambled. And a coke?" He noted the way the waitress seemed to hurry off just a little faster than usual. She didn't say anything though so Kevin relaxed.

Yvette raised glowing blue eyes to Kevin once they were alone again. She didn't say anything about the waitress, but the slight smile of thanks indicated she hadn't been completely oblivious. "So, I am finally getting the trainee name. Knuckles is winning the poll," she said, as if nothing had happened. "And Mr... Sam is going to write the easy Danger Room program for me to practice with until I am medically fitting."

"Knuckles? Like from Sonic the Hedgehog?" If Kevin bothered reading the journals much he might have seen that poll but since he hadn't he assumed it was team eyes only sort of thing. "That's cool of Sam to do for ya. So you excited about becoming a trainee, then? All aspiring for leather and all?"

"Very much. It is feeling... right? I suppose?" Yvette wasn't bouncing in her seat, but she wasn't far from it. "And yes, like the Sonic character. Mr. Kane is still calling me Trouble Lobster any way. I think he likes to be funny." She tilted her head at Kevin. "You never are thinking about the team? Even when you are with the West Coast people?"

He shook his head, not even needing the time to think about it. "Nope. Absolutely no desire to go off and play hero. Ah see why y'all do it and why someone might find it, Ah dunno, satisfyin'. But it's never been what Ah wanted to do. Artist complex maybe. Ah'd rather be in the shadows and definitely not running 'round riskin' my life. Ah can respect everyone else for doin' it, Ah just don't wanna."

She nodded, understanding. "You are still with the Red X field leaders, however, yes?" she asked. It had been a while since the group had been last called out.

"Yeah, Ah am. Red X, school, ELPIS. Sorta weird to be that busy. Ah'm still doing the training program with Red X, though. Sorta got a jump start on it but didn't finish the summer intensive so Ah kinda just started over with the normal fall training." Which was sort of annoying for the first month or so until he started helping out the people who were a little lost.

"It is, I think, good for you to be so busy. There is less time for the doom cloud," she pointed out with a grin. "And who knows? One day you might even make the friend of someone who is not from the mansion."

He nudged her under the table with his toe, giving Yvette a sarcastic look. "My doom cloud went south for the winter and why would Ah wanna make friends? Ah mean, that's effort." He was obviously kidding the way he was exaggerating his tone. "Ah mean, Ah got enough trouble juggling the ones Ah already got."

"Perhaps you are needing the assistant, to be helping you with your very busy social calendar?" she replied in kind. "Perhaps Laurie would be pleased to give you the tips on organising your time?"

"So this is what the end of the world looks like. Ah'd wondered, you know," Kevin teased, "but Ah didn't think Ah'd witness it. But if you're suggesting Laurie help me with my social calendar that's gotta be what this is, end of the world!"

"Perhaps you have gone crazy and you only think suggesting such a thing." Yvette giggled. "Perhaps we are not here at all?"

Eyes narrowing, Kevin gave her a sarcastic look. "Are you gonna tell me there is no spoon now, too?"

"No." Yvette sounded confused and she picked up the piece of cutlery from her setting. "See? Here is the spoon."

Kevin shook his head. "Kids these days, no sense of history. Remind me to make you watch The Matrix when we get back to the mansion, alright? It's homework. Very, very important homework."

Yvette was about to reply when the waitress returned with their food. She slid Yvette's plate in front of her as carefully as she could, as if expecting the girl to bite, doing the same for the juice before serving Kevin. "Would that be all?" she asked, clearly dying to flee again.

It was incredibly difficult but Kevin did manage to not glare at the waitress. In fact, his expression was utterly serene when he politely asked, "May we have one other thing? A different server?"

The woman opened her mouth to snap a reply, but closed it again and just nodded, bustling away to speak to a younger guy who obviously was a student of some type. "Hi folks," he said, coming over after a moment. "Nora said you wanted a different server, so I'll take care of things for you. I'm Craig. Is there anything else you would like?"

Yvette had sunk into her seat a little at the exchange between Kevin and Nora, and was reluctant to un-sink even with the new server. Her hair was slowly stiffening and she was obviously trying to focus on staying calm. "I am sorry, for the trouble," she murmured, to either Kevin or the server, it was difficult to tell.

"No trouble, miss," Craig replied, cheerily. "Tell you what - do you like strawberries? I'll bring you some to go with the pancakes, on the house. The chocolate chip works much better with strawberries."

Kevin felt a little bad for the disappearing act Yvette was attempting, but he'd rather her deal with the momentary embarrassment than the continual discomfort that Nora chick was bringing to their table. Craig's reaction to them both had a visible effect in relaxing Kevin's posture. He was even smiling when he spoke to the waiter. "Yeah, she likes strawberries. Thanks Craig, that'd be really great." He nudged Yvette under the table in an attempt to get her to relax a little. You did not, under any circumstances, treat Yvette like she was nuclear waste or a ticking bomb just because you were an idiot.

With the departure of the server, Yvette straightened up a little, although her hair continued to spike. She sighed a little. "Sometimes I am forgetting that not everyone is comfortable for the way I look," she said. "I am sorry, Kevin, to bring the angst to our fun time."

"Pfft." He waved a hand dismissively. "Ain't your fault. She got issues and those are her fault, but Ah don't wanna hafta deal with them the whole time we're here 'cause they ain't my issues and obviously they're not your issues. Besides, that Craig guy seems nice so it worked out. No more stupid person dealing with us to ruin the day, right?"

Yvette brightened a little. "Very true." She paused, eyes flashing brighter for a moment. "And do you think he is cute, also?"
