Later the night of her "arrival", a doubting Nico gets a visit that makes her think. And sleep.
Normally she would knock first, but Catseye knew it was late and she didn't want Nico to have to get out of bed to answer the door, and since the door was open she thought it was a better idea to go in and talk to Nico and ask if she could stay, and then if Nico said no she could just leave and Nico would never have to get out of bed!
The purple cat padded quietly over to the bed and jumped up on it easily, landing near Nico's arm and letting out a soft "mrrt?"
What the hell was she doing there?
Lying on the bed completely awake, Nico's head was filled with worries and a fear that had nothing to do with her constant running away, now put to an stop and aside. No, the girl was actually scared of not fitting. Just thinking about it was confusing. Fitting. In a Mutant School. But yeah, if regular people treated mutants like the black sheep of the genetic tree, why wouldn't the residents of the mansion consider her to be just like them? As she saw it, they had all the right to hate her just like others hated them; she was completely okay with mutants, but Nico was unsure of being able to let others know that. Even if she expressed her thoughts, others might see it as pity towards them, and that would only make things worse.
She had been going on like that for a while now, when a purple cat pulled her back to reality. It took half a second to notice it was Castseye's feline form; what was she supposed to do? As far as she had been able to learn from the girl, her life had been probably a lot more confusing than her own, but she seemed to be comfortable with being a cat. Extending her hand slowly, Nico's fingers scratched the back of the cat's head. Nico could only wonder if Catseye would like it. Her thoughts came back at her like a boomerang, and Nico's hand halted suddenly. "Ah...do you mind if I pet you?" It stroke her as pretty weird to talk with a cat, but Nico was slowly understanding she was up for a pretty weird life now.
Catseye shook her head 'no' and then butted it against the heel of Nico's hand, then arched her back and walked forward so Nico's fingers raked over her back. It was nice to be able to be a cat with the new girl; she hadn't had much luck with new people being comfortable around her dual forms lately.
Purring loudly, she stepped onto Nico's thigh and planted her paws on the girl's chest so her purple feline eyes were in line with Nico's. Tilting her head, she let out another questioning mew, hoping Nico would understand she wanted to know what was bothering the girl.
Nico sighed, and then smiled, her hand resuming the scratching and petting. Even if she looked like a cat, the girl's eyes carried a lot of meaning, mew included. How to put it in few, simple words? "I feel like I don't belong", started as she blinked slowly, wondering if she would ever sleep again -she had grown used to the ground of the streets a little to much for her liking-, but sleepiness didn't come to her. "I...fear being hated for not being a mutant, or even worse, for being a latent one. People here...mutants in general...there is so much suffering and I feel like an invader, and outsider." Nico sighed again, as her busy hand played wit the back of the purple cat, unconsciously trying to find out if cats that were people had tickles.
Catseye purred louder at the skritching and cocked her head at the girl's words. She leaned in closer and licked Nico's nose in a sort of a cat kiss- perfectly friendly and not at all something a couple would do, though!- and headbutted her chin. Then she rested her forepaws down on Nico's chest, her middle following, so that she was laying on the girl's torso. "Mrrrrrrrrrrrt!" she exclaimed determindly, as if to say you're staying right here. She headbutted Nico's chin again. Nico was from the streets and didn't have a family anymore, and for Catseye that was all that mattered; the fact that she might be a different sort of mutant made absolutely no difference. She headbutted Nico a third time. "Mrrt!" I don't hate you!
The lick caught her by surprise, but she got the meaning; it was kind of easy to understand Catseye, actually. "I didn't want to sound-Hey! I mean, I'm not lea-Ah! Cats, you are giving me headbu-Alright!" Nico laughed, probably like she hadn't done in a good time, and for a good while as well. She actually got a couple of tears out of the effort of not making much noise, her scratching hand holding the cat, although she didn't know if someone like Catseye would need the extra help. When she finally relaxed, Nico's eyes met again with the purple cat's. "I just need time to, I don't know, get used, I guess." Nico's hand suddenly moved up, covering the cat's head, and then moved back; Nico needed to remind herself the cat on her chest was a thinking girl, and not the pet she always wished to have, but oddly enough, she was okay with it; she had liked Catseye since the moment they met, and found her presence relaxing.
"You are such a good listener, you know that?"
The purple cat nodded and licked at a forepaw, clearly preening. Cats were the best listeners, she knew that! She went back to purring and kneading her front paws on Nico's chest, though she made sure to keep her claws in. When her paws had settled the 'bed' (which was really Nico's shirt) to her satisfaction, she rested her head on them, curling her tail up around herself, clearly settling in for a long nap. She stared at Nico, chirping to let the girl know that she could take all the time she needed getting used to things, because the catgirl wasn't going anywhere.

If Catseye weren't...a cat, Nico would feel weird to have something messing with her chest, and all the parts involved, but once again, it was amazing what looking like an adorable purple fur ball could accomplish. So Nico allowed the cat to make herself comfortable as much as she wanted, her mind finally managing to relax as she kept on passing her fingers over the cat's back. "Thinking on staying? Well, that's fine for me..." Nico yawned, and that surprised her; laughing and voicing her thoughts, combined with Catseye's warmth and softness, not to mention the moral support the catgirl was offering had managed to relax the girl enough to realize she was really tired. Tired of running away, of being afraid, and specially of being alone. The hand on Catseye's back started to slow down, and Nico managed to smile a little as her eyes closed slowly. Another yawn and Nico felt her consciousness to finally stop and rest for a while; she was going to sleep like a baby, she knew that.
"I promise...not to roll...over you...good night Catseye" And she was out.
After a while, when she was convinced that the girl wasn't going to get up and leave, the catgirl climbed down off her chest onto the bed and began tugging the covers up over Nico with her teeth and her tail. When she'd tucked Nico in, Catseye padded over to the girl's pillow and curled up around Nico's head, a purring purple halo to keep her head warm.
