An alarmed Nico visits Dori, but finds her sleeping, and being watched over.
Nico rushed into the Medlab, looking more or less scared, and quite nervous. Doreen!?!" The girl needed to take a hand to cover her mouth; she was apparently sleeping, so waking her up wouldn't be a good idea right? Instead of that, Nico noticed Kurt in there as well; while she knew he wasn't a doctor, she needed to make the question anyway.
"How is she? I only read Medlab and claws and..."
"She is not badly hurt", Kurt assured her quickly, rising from his chair to meet her halfway. "She has developed a new aspect to her mutation, which is claws from her knuckles. There are minor wounds, and of course the shock, but she will be fine... and is rather sedated at the moment, so I do not think you need to worry about waking her."
Nico held Kurt's wrists tightly, barely noticing the man; she was listening though, and so relaxed a little. Letting the man go, Nico drew herself closer, giving Dori a long silent long look. "I should've been there, or done something, or or..." It just felt like failing her again too much.
"There is nothing you could have done to prevent this", Kurt said firmly. "She was startled, and the claws came out as a natural reaction, but they were always there. If it had not been today, it would have happened another time."
Kurt made lots of sense, but Nico didn't feel any better. "She must have been so scared..." But she was better now, right? She was asleep, but besides that...
"Will they go back in? The claws, I mean."
"It is not certain yet", he had to admit. "It will depend on how they are arranged. But if they will, you may be sure she will be helped to learn how."
Nico looked at the claws, and thought Dori had had more than enough. "Mr. Sefton, do you think that sometimes life would be better if we were all plain simple humans? All the hatred, all the pain, even the one we cause ourselves...it's not right."
"Oh, my dear", Kurt answered quietly; stepping to her side again in case she needed someone there. "Plain simple humans cause hatred and pain even among themselves, remember. It is not right, but... there would always be something."
Nico's hand looked for Kurt's, but she was already on the verge of tears.> "I'm such an hypocrite, feeling all guilty for her, for mutants when I don't know a thing about it, because I got _lucky_ on the genetic lotto and won a mock X gene." By then her tears had already ruined her eyeliner.
He took her hand readily, squeezing it in the hope of offering some comfort. "You are not a hypocrite, Nico. She is your friend, and you are allowed to feel bad for her when such things happen, but compared to some, everyone in this mansion won that lottery... Doreen included. She will live through this and recover from it."
"Sure she will; she is very strong." Nico sniffed, free hand weeping the mess on her face away. "Lucky you guys, and I mean it; better to keep up to the expectations then."
Letting a shaky sigh, the girl let go Kurt's hand. "I've got things to do, but I'll return later; even being my birthday and all, I'm in charge of the decorations."
"Try to have a good time at your party", Kurt advised her kindly. "You know Doreen would not want you to worry yourself sick over this. But bring her some cake later."
A small smile managed to reach Nico's lips. "And candies, she loves sweets." She needed to focus on something else than Dori if she wanted to be useful at all. "I will pass by later. And Mr. Sefton, Kurt, thanks, again."
"You are very welcome. If I can be of any other help, you know where to find me."
