Kyle checks up on Laurie after they're back from the mission.

Laurie wiped a hand across her mouth and sat back on the medlab bed, trying not to think too closely on anything less she set off another bout of vomiting. It was bad enough that she would have to go through what she normally went through after an extended use of her powers but the nightmares were going to be particularly vivid after today's events.

She made a note in her mental calendar to go see Dr. Sampson, and possibly see about getting a referral to someone who specialised in post battlefield situations if the good doctor wasn't up for that sort of thing.

Kyle had cheerfully failed the first half of his 'just how busted are your eardrums' test and marginally passed the second half as his healing factor started to fix the damage. By then, he was just happy to not be dizzy, and he'd talked the doctors into letting him chow down on a couple of roast beef sandwiches while they looked him over. So he was feeling more-or-less a whole lot better, even if everything was still all muffled-sounding.

He'd just finished the food and gotten the all-clear when he smelled the sour-bitter smell of vomit and the musky-sweet very distinctive smell of Laurie's powers. He found himself turning around and heading back towards the exam areas and towards the smell, despite that it was gross.

"Yo, I still can't hear like, anything so I hope you're not like naked or something cause I'm comin' in!" He called. Not that he was all that deaf, but it was funnier that way.

"Long as you don't mind not getting too close," Laurie noted, looking up as Kyle entered.

While she'd cut off actively projecting, until she got a shower there was still the danger of passive influence. Hank had placed her near a small extractor fan just in case though, so there should be no accidents. "Have they said how long it'll take for your hearing to correct itself?"

She said the last slightly louder, hoping she wouldn't have to shout for Kyle to hear her.

"Dude, right now I can't smell anything except horseradish unless I really think about it." Kyle said, still just a touch too loud. He'd gotten the sandwiches loaded with it to try to cut the other smells out of his sinuses. It hurt but it did the trick every time.

"I'm already back to almost normal people levels. I'm just nowhere near normal me levels." Hearing like a normal person was weird. He'd gotten used to hearing conversations from several rooms down. "Doc says I'm gonna have so much earwax though. It's gonna be totally gross."

"Your bodies attempt to shield your eardrums from further damage," Laurie said, nodding somewhat to herself as she brought up the relevant material in her mind as relating to hearing and the ear canal. She realised after a second that she was drifting mentally and shook her head slightly to bring herself back to focus. "Sorry, I'm a little, I don't know. They've given me some strong pain killers, and Hank thinks it's going to be a week at least this time. Pain sucks. Did you get debriefed yet at all?"

"Rogue handled my end of things. Wasn't much to cover so I didn't need to do a lot there." Kyle said, shrugging. "And I was kinda deaf and trying not to puke. And yeah, pain sucks but it's better than like, being dead or something. So you're gonna be all like mega-PMS girl for a couple days?"

"I figure Clarice probably put in any information for us, I wasn't really in the best state to be coherent when we finally got finished," Laurie admitted, clutching at the bucket for a second as she felt her stomach roll queasily and then settle. "Mega-PMS is about right, at least the cramps and the weird moods, if not the rest. Have you...did you ever have to kill anyone on a mission?"

"Fuck no! Shit, you know that!" Kyle backed away a few steps and leaned against the wall. "Dude, you ... man, you should know I don't do that shit. Didn't we have this fight?" He shook his head and then winced, regretting the motions effect on his eardrums. "You read mission reports, you know what I've done. I'm not Logan."

"Well, I guess there's something I've gone first in then," Laurie murmured reaching up to catch the moisture caught on her eyelashes before they could fall. She couldn't look directly at her friend, had winced at the vehemence of his reply. She had hoped, she wasn't sure what, maybe for someone who had been there before her, and could tell her how to go about handling it. "It was...I don't, it was horrible."

Kyle didn't say anything for a few minutes. He just stared at the floor and at his feet and at the hair on his toes and at his claws. Even when he did, he stopped and started a few times, before being able to get all of it out. "I know this is uncool, but I think your powers are giving me the whammy and this is kinda, one of those things that turns me into crazypants Kyle, can... we like, talk about it when we're both not, you know? All fucked up?"

It sounded a lot nicer than he felt, and he had to turn and leave before he let Laurie finish whatever she was going to say.

Laurie stared at the spot Kyle had vacated for a few moments before she hopped off the medlab bed, a short wince the only evidence that the pain killers hadn't quite managed to contain the effects of prolonged power use. Limping slightly she moved out into the hall and quickly after her friend.

"Kyle, please wait. I'm...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you."

Kyle stopped turned to look at Laurie. "Dude, I know. You almost never really mean to. I'm just not really the best guy to help. Not with that anyway. It's just.. kinda not a subject I can talk about." He raked a hand through his hair, claws now neatly trimmed down to almost nothing, and grunted. "Come on, I'll help you to your suite and we'll talk your roommate into nuking you some soup. It's that or I'm just gonna pace around the infirmary until somebody tells me how messed up Jan's leg is anyway."

"Thanks, that would be good. Although Jean-Phillipe making soup I would have to see." Laurie said, limping slightly toward him and smiling in apology as the area of influence her power affected drew him in. "I heard Jan was hurt, I hope it isn't too permanent. That was not a nice bunch of people we were all dealing with."

"No shit, really? They were all like pizza and beer with us." Kyle snapped, and then winced. "Yeah, lets get you a shower too, before I say something like really really rude? Cause right now, yeah, you totally smell like bad mood."
