Jubilee and Moira Log.
Feb. 24th, 2004 01:22 amThis takes place late Monday night.
Jubilee pushed the button on the remote control, flipping through channels
randomly in an attempt to find a channel that wasn't showing an infomerical
this late at night. The one problem of having trouble getting to sleep at
night was that you never really could find anything good to watch.
Especially when you were trying to sneak out of your room without the
roommates knowing, so you couldn't really raid their stash of DVD's. She
paused suddenly, turning off the television as she heard movement by the
door.
Moira paused and glanced in, raising an eyebrow. "Lass? Jubilee, what are
ye doin' up so late?" 'Fer tha' matter, what am -I- doin' up so late? Oh,
aye, jet la'. Nathan owes me.' She walked further into the room, making
sure she didn't bump the door with the arm in the sling. It was still
incredibly sore and tender and Henry had ordered her to wear it for a few
more days.
Jubilee's eyes widened at the site of the doctor. "Oh, hey Mac. Um, just
kinda chillin', wanted to catch a late night run of a Charlie's Angels
marathon but it got cancelled." She noticed the sling on Moira's arm. "Mac,
what the hell happened?"
"Nothin' much...a rather large friend o' mine decided 'e wanted ta be a
felled tree for a few minutes," Moira said dryly, moving all the way into
the room. "'appened in Lichtenstein this weekend. 'Tis nothin', I relocated
it right after it 'appened, so I'm jus' lettin' it heal."
Jubilee eyed the doctor, placing the remote on the coffee table. "Dude,
you're one tough broad, you know that? So, what'cha doin' up this late?"
"Jet la'. Travelin' to an' from Licthenstein after th' last week 'as me
pretty beat." She raised an eyebrow at the younger girl. "Jubilee, why did
you nay show up after ye asked me if ye could talk ta me? I know I've been
busy, but I'm nay 'ard ta find."
Jubilee shifted in her chair, playing with the cord of her bracelet for a
second before she answered. "I... I'm not sure. Guess I thought it was
classes but then when I didn't have classes; there was always somethin'
else to do. I mean, I knew what I wanted to see you about last week. Now,
it's like it's not there anymore and I'm not sure what I wanted to talk
about. Seemed like maybe if I couldn't figure out what it was, then maybe I
shouldn't bother you, ya know?"
"That's me job, Jubilee...ta get me sleep, meals and relaxation
interrupted." She stopped joking. "Seriously, it most o' been somethin' or
ye wouldn't have searched -me- out. Did it jus'...go away?"
Jubilee nodded, trying to remember. "There was the whole burning my
alarm clock thing but it was something more then that." Jubilee closed her
eyes as she felt only blackness where there should be memory. She pushed at
it, trying to see past and winced at the stab of pain in her head. "Maybe
it was just the clock. I mean, I've never melted anything before."
Moira frowns deeply. 'Nay, there's somethin' else, lass,' she thinks.
'There was jus' -one- unclaimed body an' it looked more like yer handiwork
than Tabs.' She takes a deep breath and sits on the couch. "Are ye sure?
Jus' think fer a minute."
Jubilee stared at Moira; sweat beads starting to show on her face as she
tried to think of what else she could have wanted to tell her. She pulled
her legs up and clutched them with her arms. "I...I can't, Mac. It hurts
like hell."
"Tell me where it 'urts? When ye try ta think...remember?"
'Bloody 'ell.' Moira put out a hand soothingly. "Tis okay, Jubilee, ye
didna 'ave ta think o' th' attack." She hated baiting people like that but
there was obviously some repressed memories tied into Jubilee's problems
with her powers and it was one of those "now or never'" situations you hate
finding yourself in.
Jubilee's eyes widened and she shook her head. "No, what are you talking
about? I wasn't here during the attack, I wasn't...I, but then how can I
remember Cain helping me? How...no, I wasn't, I don't...Oh God, no. NO!"
Jubilee fell off the back of the couch, clutching her head at the wave of
pain, sparks coming off her in waves as she lost control.
Moira started forward and then ducked as a rain of sparks came close to her
head. "Shit!" She lunged to the side as another thing came close to nailing
her. 'I dinnae want ta get hit wit' those!'
Jubilee was lost, trapped in the blackness and couldn't see the lounge
anymore. The dark was suffocating; jagged spikes of pain rushing up to meet
her as she tried to swim toward the light. "I was in the bathroom... I
didn't even know we'd been invaded." she whispered softly as a snatch of
memory exploded across her mind.
Blinking, Moira tried to clear her vision. The sparks were lessened right
now but she was still slightly flash-blinded. "Jubilee?"
Jubilee looked up at the sound of her name, her eyes clear for a second.
"Mac...help me, I can't do this. I can't." Jubilee fell back into the
whirlpool of darkness, feeling someone on the horizon of her mind that she
didn't, couldn't deal with. Screaming in pain, Jubilee did the only thing
she could think of to get away, she fainted.
Startled, Moira darted forward and knelt by the girl. "Jubilation?" She
reached for her pulse and was relieved to find it high, but becoming
normal. "Alright, enough o' this passin' out... first Nathan, now ye?"
Moira shook her gently, waiting to see what the reaction would be.
Jubilee was safe, enclosed in warm comfortable blackness when she felt
something shaking her. She jerked away, mumbling a protest and tried to
sink back down into darkness. "G'way Kit, just a few more minutes." The
shaking didn't stop however, and with a snarl Jubilee opened her eyes.
"What?"
Moira raised an eyebrow. "So I take it yer nay a mornin' person?"
Jubilee blinked at her for a second, looking around. "Wha? Um, no. Usually
Kit has to squirt me with water. Um...Mac, why am I lying on the floor?"
"Ye dinnae remember?"
Jubilee shook her head, sitting up. "Remember what? Last thing I knew, I
was watchin' television...Guess I must have fallin' asleep. What you doin'
up so late?"
"I..." She gazed down at her, slightly shocked. "Ye nearly did a ban' up
job o' blindin' me when I mentioned... somethin' an'..." She glanced over
her shoulder... a leg and a good part of the coffee table were smoldering
nicely.
Jubilee shook her head, noticing the burns. "I did? I'm real sorry Mac, I
don't remember. I do have a headache. Maybe it was somethin' like the
clock? Been havin' problems with my powers lately. Kit keeps tellin' me I
should get you to check it out but what with schoolwork and all, been too
busy."
Gently, Moira pulled Jubilee to her feet. "Nay anymore we won't be," she
said mildly. "I'd like ye ta start comin' ta me office once a week."
Jubilee nodded, lookin' around the room. "Sure, Mac. Um...maybe I should go
to bed. Otherwise Kit will have ta dump a whole bucket of water on me."
"Aye, -sleep-, drop me a line if'n thin's get too bad, aye? Me door is
always open, me beeper is always on and if'n tha' doesn't work, follow yer
nose... where coffee is, I'll be there."
Jubilee grinned. "Mac, with your coffee, I'm sure I could find you
anywhere. I'll see ya soon. Don't stay up too late, hey? This place can get
weird spooky at night. Kept thinkin' I was seeing some guy peeking in
windows."
"Some guy? Did ye get a good look?"
Jubilee shook her head. "No, just kept seeing a face and then it was gone.
Went out to look but I couldn't see any tracks or nothin'. Was really
bizarre."
Frowning, Moira made a mental note. Seems that seeing things was going
around lately...maybe it wasn't a fluke. "Aye, I'll keep me eye out. Off ta
bed wit' ye, now, an' I'll talk ta ye later."
Jubilee smiled and walked toward the door. "See ya round, Mac."
"G'night." Moira waited until she had left before sinking onto the
abandoned couch. Memory suppression, wonderful. She eyed the table..."An'
power fluxes... possibly tied together." Groaning, she sank into the couch
and picked up the remote control. Finding anything good would be hard but
she concentrated on that and ignored the smell of burnt wood.
