Jay gets tailored to his jeans and startgs asking Clarice a lot of questions about who and what she dates while formulating a plot to rope his brother in.
Jay ran a hand over his bare stomach and leaned down to scratched his leg while he stared at Clarice through the reflection of the mirror. "Yanno, Ah'm confused about the whole flippin' sides thing. Like, yanno, Kyle looks at me sometimes and Ah know he still thinks about me with wings, sorta like the same look Ah get from Kevin," he cleared his throat. "So you sorta know what it's like, likin' guys, then girls, then guys again."
Wait, what? Jay was asking her for advice on sexuality? Weeeiiird."Sorta," she agreed, "but no one takes me liking girls seriously here," which was fine. She had had a few flings with classmates and such at school, but no one she had 'brought home' as it were. Most of them were looking more for experimenting with a mutant than anything else. It had been fun though, "You though, they take seriously. At least, when it come to the wings."
"What do you mean they take me seriously? Cause of the wings? Like its cause of mah wings cause they wanted me?" Ugh, that was a terrible thought, although he didn't reallly believe that had been the case with Kevin.
"No!" that wasn't what she meant at all! "Stand still," she added, holding a leg while she pinned the fabric. She had him standing on a step stool in front of her mirror while she worked, "I mean, it's not like you just decided you were bored being all fleshy and feathery so you went to the mall and turned yourself blue and metallic just for shits and giggles."
"Yeah," he trailed off, watching her work, although it was out of habit that he leaned away from her a little when she pinned. "But Ah just mean, like, what made ya turn away from guys n' look at girls? Was it cause of Shiro? Or just cause you changed yer mind."
"Dude, if anything, I turned Shiro away from girls," because he had jumped from her to Alex pretty damn quickly. And she had dated Kyle and broken up with him well before ever turning to girls, "If anything, we can blame Kyle for that one. But no, it wasn't him either. I just...I dunno. Why limit my options, you know? They get limited enough just being purple and if you haven't noticed, we're all sort of incestuous here anyways. If I limited myself to just Xavier's people or just mutants? I'm 21. If I'm going to experiment, then now is the time and college is the place."
"Yeah but c'mon, most of 'em people we date outside of the mansion wants to see what it's like datin' someone with a different colour." He knew he had enough people want to date him wthout really wanting to date him to get to know him. "Ah mostly get 'em weirdos, no one that's genuine enough to actually wanna really crawl in bed with me. But yer a girl. Ah reckon its different huh?"
"Not really," she shook her head and cuffed his pant leg, "Mostly they want to see if I'm purple all over. Sometimes I go out with them, though very few ever find out the answer. It's like....do you ask a black person if they are black all over? What kind of bullshit is that to ask me then?"
"What is that sayin?" he asked, chuckling. "Does the curtains match the carpet?" That earned him another smack. "No seriously, Ah started havin' sex when Ah got back, but like with two guys. Neither of 'em finished cause.. it got real awkward. Now Ah just don't know if Ah should be bothered." Hearing Clarice had a rough time didn't help him any.
"The drapes match the rug," she corrected with a grin. He had deserved that smack. "Well, I can always peg you if you want. I'm pretty sure everyone thought I was with Shiro anyways," she was joking, but that was about how these things tended to be in the dating scene. Pretty pathetic. "I keep thinking, it'll get better eventually. But....I don't know when eventually is."
"Eventually is lookin like forever huh? And Pass," Jay said. "Ah ain't into girls, though you'd think Ah was fer all the girls that are trying real hard at the bar. They're all convinced Ah'm straight as a board and havn't figured it out yet." He snorted. Boy were they ever wrong. "Ah never thought Ah would say this but Ah see why 'stickin to yer own kind' works for us. Cause no one else's gonna date mutants but mutants."
Clarice rolled her eyes, "I wasn't suggesting you were into girls, Guthrie," that was why she had suggested she peg him, not him have sex with her, but it was more a difference in semantics than anything, "But I could care less about what colour your talleywacker is and I know you're not interested in my girlie bits." Sitting back on her heels she grinned up at him, "Sometimes, I think you're right...but really...we're not the norm even amongst mutants. Blue and purple and whatever other colours you want just aren't normal. People are not skittles, mutant or not. One day, we will find someone who doesn't care if we are rainbow striped or polka dotted. And at 21....yeah, it looks like forever."
"But yer into guys right? Like yer into datin' and maybe tryin' out the flow?" he asked and yes, he was pushing just a little too much. "Like uh.. yeah, you like em though right? Maybe enough to be like the 21st century woman and ask a guy out?"
"Yeah, I'm into guys. Bi, lez, whatever. Labels are stupid," but people liked them. A lot. "And yeah, I've asked plenty of guys out. If I don't ask, I never get a date. Apparently I'm intimidating or something," she laughed humorlessly, "Why? You asking me out? Or you want tips on asking someone else?"
"No Ah ain't askin' you out," that earned her a tug on her hair. "Ah'm sorta asking you out for Sam." Insert casual cough there. "Yanno, cause he won't do it himself so it's kind of a brother's intervention. Except he don't know it. Now don't look at me that way, c'mon Clarice, he ain' goin' out with anyone and needs to get out. Ah thought if we got the ball rollin' with you. Maybe it'd get him outta this frump he's in."
Laughing, Clarice patted Jay on the head, "You are such a good brother," but the idea was not a bad one actually. "You gonna help me pay for this date? Or am I just supposed to woo him on looks and charm alone?"
"I'll reimburse you cause Ah reckon Sam's old fashion and he'll pay for it all himself. If he doesn't, just bat your eyelashes a few times at 'em. He'll pay. He's got money anyways, it ain't like he spends it on anything right now." Jay nearly wanted to whoop at this. He hadn't planned for it but it was sure as hell falling into place.
"I was teasing, Machiavelli," she nudged him lightly again, "If you pay me, then it'll be like 10 Things I Hate About You, except I'm Heath Ledger and Sam is Julia Stiles. No thanks. Go change now. "
Jay hopped off with a spring to his step as he disappeared into Clarice's washroom, humming merrily. Ohyeah, he was the king of plotting. Sam was bound to come out of his shell in no time!
