Monday night after Shinobi's dinner with Emma, he stops by Shiro's room. Serious geeking out over FFX2 ensues, followed by much generosity and an invitation. Be warned! FFX2 spoilers contained.

Dinner with Emma and Manuel had been nice - dining to his usual standards, as opposed to slumming it, had been very refreshing, especially since it gave him an excuse to wear one of his suits. He likes suits. Minding his own business as he makes his way back towards his room, he pauses as an odd noise catches the edges of his attention, loosening his tie and peering towards where he thinks the sound's coming from. Slowly, he crosses over, lifting a hand to knock on Shiro's door. "Shiro? You aren't strangling a cat in there or something, are you?"

Shiro's eyes are fixed on the small television screen in front of him. In his hands is the nearly-omnipresent PS2 controller, and he is not surprisingly playing Final Fantasy X2. "Remind never to buy American video games again," he says bitterly in Japanese (which he subconsciously switched to upon hearing Shinboi). "Rikku thinks she can sing." He points at the screen, where Rikku-as-songstress is attempting to inspire her teammates with a few ill-placed notes. "It's a wonder Yuna and Paine don't drop dead."

"Is that what that awful noise is?" Shinobi blinks, similarly switching to Japanese as it's spoken at him. He considers for a moment before he ducks into the room, wandering over so he can eye the TV screen critically. "Please tell me Paine either does not sing, or isn't this bad at it."

"I have yet to allow her to use that sphere," Shiro answers as he commands Paine-as-Black Mage to Thundara her enemies. He shifts over on his bed to make room for Shinobi, although his eyes never leave the screen.

Neither do Shinobi's, and yet, he takes a small step to the side so that he can sit down on the newly freed portion of the bed. "Never let her. I fear it would ruin her." He pauses briefly. "Or is her speaking voice just as bad?"

"All of their speaking voices are bad," he points out, frowning as Yuna gets ripped a new one. He swears under his breath. "Damn Americans, ruining what would otherwise be a perfect game." He sighs and finally scores the final hit to win the battle. "I am beginning to think that it would have been worth the extra expense to import, you know?"

"If you want, I've got shiny credit cards and not nearly enough things to use them for," Shinobi offers, tearing his attention away from the screen to offer Shiro a lopsided grin. "Proper video gaming is a worthy cause, I think."

Shiro shares the grin, turning away momentarily to look at Shinobi before another battle ensues, which of course demands every fiber of attention. "I have no need to indulge myself like that, Shinobi, but thank you. I will call you once I've completed this and need more lives to control. I hear that Kingdom Hearts is an interesting game, too."

Even Shinobi's attention darts back to the screen at the battle music, because.. well.. that's what you do with a Final Fantasy game, even if you're only watching. It's a thing. "I actually haven't played that myself, but I've heard only good things. Maybe you and I should hit the city and pick up some more games sometime. Could be fun."

Shiro does not stare at the screen when Paine changes to Warrior, no way. "Knowing my video game habits, I will max out your card faster than Sefton can concoct a love potion," he says off-handedly.

"I don't know about that.. but it certainly would be fun to try, wouldn't it?" Shinobi's not staring either. No siree. He's innocent. "I've been neglecting my old gaming habit terribly, anyway. Spending some money on it would do me some good."

"A shame that these games are only for one player at a time." He grins maliciously as Paine and Yuna combo an attack that knocks out a big beastie. "Unless you invest in Final Fantasy XI. But then I fear that neither of us will ever leave our computers."

"Don't think it isn't tempting anyway," Shinobi muses thoughtfully, resting his elbow against his knee so he can prop his chin up in his hand. "I mean, we do have laptops.. and if this, of all places, doesn't have wireless internet, I'd be amazed."

Shiro laughs at that, chancing a glance at Shinobi before turning back to the screen. "The teachers would love that, don't you think? That is a certain way to get computers banned here. Unless the teachers like the game as well . . ."

Shinobi grins impishly, nodding once and wiggling his eyebrows. "I think Doctor McCoy would probably like it, given half a chance.. he's a good place to start corrupting them, don't you think?"

"You are awfully intent on corruption, it seems." He sets his characters to wander around Mt. Gagazet to rack up the experience and money, and uses this lull in game activity to turn to Shinobi and raise an eyebrow.

"Only fun corruption," Shinobi replies innocently, looking to Shiro with a matching smile. "What? Exposing people to Final Fantasy is hardly a bad thing, is it?"

Shiro rolls his eyes but smiles a bit before his attention is called again by the sound of another battle. He sets Yuna to Gun Mage before looking back at Shinobi out of the corner of his eyes. "If I were a priest, I would reprimand you and remind you that all corruption is bad." He grins as he turns back again. "But Final Fantasy is definitely not a bad thing, so it is okay."

"And you aren't a priest, to the best of my knowledge," Shinobi agrees, grinning cheerfully and returning his attention to the screen. Eye-candy, ahoy! ... the spell effects. Really. "So all is doubly well."

"Despite my cousin's threats to send me off to a shrine if I misbehaved." He chuckles a bit as yet another group of baddies is defeated. "Hmm, some shrine out in the middle of nowhere or a school in America? Which is worse?"

"That's a tough one," Shinobi replies seriously, scratching his chin in thought. "Probably the shrine. I sincerely doubt you would be able to play video games in the shrine."

"Good point," Shiro concedes. "This at least makes things tolerable. And I'll admit it's a relief to see others who share this pastime." The comment about this making said students less boorish remains unsaid, but it's obvious that he's thinking it anyway.

Shinobi doesn't feel a need to make mention of it, either. Just knowing the thought's there is enough. "So, explain this to me," he says after a moment, gesturing at the screen. "I haven't gotten to play yet. What's the story this time?"

"There's a story?" he jokes. "Yuna, Rikku, and this new woman Paine are like treasure hunters, in search of those record-sphere things that we saw in Ten. They found one that they think came from Tidus, so they're looking for more to figure out what exactly happened to him."

"They're seeking the fate of blondie," Shinobi summarizes, grinning and nodding sagely. "I see a distinct lack of Lulu.. but given what I'm hearing of the voice actresses, this is probably a very, very good thing."

"Lulu is pregnant," Shiro spitefully informs Shinobi. "With Wakka's child. Unacceptable."

"With Wakka's?" Shinobi sputters incredulously, giving the Playstation a downright wary look. "I agree. That is beyond unacceptable."

"And worse yet, they kept the same design from Ten, so even though she is supposed to go into labor any day now, she looks just as thin as she did in the previous game." He shakes his head. "Sad mistakes were made here."

"Maybe it's just a mistranslation," Shinobi offers hopefully, though deep down, he knows it's not true. "She isn't really pregnant. Really. Certainly not with Wakka's child. Because, as we have discussed, that is unacceptable."

"Buy me the real version and we can find out for sure." He swears at the game when Rikku falls victim to confusion and attacks Paine. "Now look, this talk about Lulu not sleeping with Yuna is distracting me."

Shinobi offers a "Sorry," that would sound much more sincere if he wasn't laughing while he said it, grinning as he looks back to the screen. "I'll order the real version when I get up to my room. And then, I'll pray. A lot."

"A real version with require a real Playstation, or at least a chip to enable this one to play real games."

"Have a preference, between the two?" Shinobi asks curiously, keeping his grin.

"Depends on how much money you are willing to spend on me," Shiro answers, mirroring Shinobi.

"And that depends on if you're sharing or not," Shinobi counters, grin widening.

Shiro considers. "If I only have to share with you, I believe we have a deal. No one else would understand."

"Well, Doug would, but only the Japanese," Shinobi agrees, nodding once. "If you're sharing, we'll go for the real Playstation. I'll let you know when it's supposed to get here when I know."

Shiro's eyes widen in surprise. He honestly thought that Shinobi was just teasing. "Really? Shinobi, that is quite generous of you . . ."

"It's greedy of me, because I'm making you share," Shinobi chuckles, slowly shaking his head. "Honestly, it's not a bother. I miss Japanese games, anyway - you're just giving me an excuse to go ahead and start feeding the habit again."

"Addicted to tobacco, and soon to high Japanese culture," Shiro muses. "You are an interesting person, you are."

"I do try," Shinobi grins, lifting his chin proudly. "Indulging certainly seems to make like more fun."

"The only fun to be had here."

"Not the only fun to be had," Shinobi replies slowly, giving his collar a thoughtful tug. "Be forewarned - Emma may be inviting you to something of a party this Saturday. She asked me who I thought would appreciate the evening out, and I mentioned you."

"Huh?" Not what Shiro was expecting to hear. "A party? And Ms. Frost is involved? I should be running for cover now."

"It's a formal party, so it won't be that scary," Shinobi chuckles, shaking his head. "It's a slightly more.. decadent crowd than most of the school's used to. I thought you might appreciate being around some civilized people." He pauses briefly, and amends, "Corrupt as hell, most of them, but largely civilized about the entire thing."

Shiro looks very dubious and reluctant about it. "The only clothing I have here that would be suitable for such a crowd is my kamishimo . . ." He's certainly intrigued by the idea, and tries to show that in his words and tone of voice.

"Formal is formal," Shinobi smiles, inclining his head. "And this is a crowd that's very big on individuality. If you'd prefer a suit, though, I can take you into the city to pick one up? Assuming you want to come if Emma asks, of course."

"I don't like suits," Shiro says quickly. "If she does extend the invitation, then I guess my kamishimo will suffice. Anoo, thank you, Shinobi."

"You're very welcome," Shinobi grins, waving a hand and glancing to the screen again. "It would be good to have you there."

"I haven't been to a formal party in months," Shiro mutters. "And the ones I went to were always full of Ya . . . anoo, wannabe samurai." He fights the blush creeping up his face. "He spends time with an interesting crowd."

Shinobi just grins at the near-slip, not seeming to find it offensive or off-putting in the least. "Well, this crowd is definitely an interesting one," he admits, scratching the back of his head. "It's.. well, my father is going to be there. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be able to avoid him entirely, either."

"Isn't that slightly dangerous?" Shiro inquires. "Since, if I understand correctly, you helped Mr. Wisdom rescue Ms. Frost from his grasp and ran away with them. Will he not try to avenge himself at the part in some way?"

"He cares too much about his image, so I sincerely doubt it," Shinobi replies thoughtfully, tilting his head slowly to one side. "Attacking his own heir in front of his partners like that would sully the family name. If he's going to do anything, it will be quietly, and not in such a public arena. Especially not with Emma there, in full control of herself, to aid me."

"Is that so? I hope you are right, for your sake. It would be quite disappointing to lose video game funding. Which means you should order the equipment before the party, just in case something happens . . ."

"I'll put the order in as soon as I get to my room," Shinobi replies seriously, trying to hide a grin. "I'll make sure they know you can sign for it in my absence, too, just to be absolutely sure."

Shiro chuckles again. "Wonderful. Much appreciated."

"I live to please. Well, and spoil my friends terribly. It's fun."

"Knowing my video game habits, I will max out your card faster than Sefton can concoct a love potion."

Hey! I'll have you know that takes time, and precision and about two minutes in the microwave...

*grins* Cute, you two.

Shinobi can make anybody cute.

Well.. maybe not Cain. Unless he has Miles with him at the time, but then it's a definite team effort.

And here I thought she used an EZ-Bake Oven. I suppose the lightbulb doesn't give you enough temperature control?
