Julian & Crystal: MedLab Visit (Backdated)
Feb. 9th, 2010 07:45 pmJulian is visited by the mansion's resident princess while on his sick bed.
(BACKDATED to Tuesday Night)
Still on his stomach, Julian was in a pleasant state given the high amount of narcotic pain killers he was on. The thirty-five stitches would no doubt be leaving a spectacular scar on his hind-quarters, but all that mattered now was the serene floating feeling the drugs were giving him. So enraptured was he, that he didn't notice the footsteps coming up from behind him.
"Flying high?" a female voice asked. "Training exercise went a bit out of control, I see." Crystal pulled up a chair and sat near the boy. "You are not in any pain at the moment, are you?"
"Nnnnope!" he said, opening his eyes and smiling at the pretty woman. "How about yourself?"
"Well, I am not under the effects of painkillers, but then again I was not wounded. Therefore, I am not in any pain. I am glad that you are not in any pain." Crystal had to keep herself from questioning the student; at the moment, she was here as a MedLab volunteer, not as a teacher or someone who was concerned about his behavior, even if she did fit all of those descriptions.
Even though he was lacking a lucid state of mind, what she was saying made a great deal of sense. "I suppose that it makes a good deal of sense then for you not to be on any pain meds then."
"Yes, perfect sense." While Crystal didn't want to give him a lecture while he was not entirely coherent, she was quite curious about a number of factors surrounding the situation, and perhaps it would be ok to ask at least one of the questions that was on her mind. "Julian, would it be permissible to you if I asked you a question?"
"Shoot," he said, making a 'bang' sound effect. "You know you don't have to be so formal around me."
Crystal nodded. "Perhaps that is true, but I suppose the way that I am speaking now reflects the way I feel. I believe that the events which took place today should not have happened. However, you are injured and on medication for pain, and now is not the proper time for certain actions to be questioned. However, what I am interested in knowing at this point in time is why you did not shield yourself from the attack."
"Oh, well, that's because I had my back turned when he bit me. Can you believe that, the dog." Finding this extremely humorous, Julian broke out in a giggle-fit.
"Julian!" Crystal was horrified. "Nicholas is no more a dog than you or I are! Yes, his mutation allows him to take on the form of the wolf, but he is a mutant just as we are! How can you say such a thing about him?"
He didn't have a good answer, so he decided to go with a bad one, "I'd say that his behavior is more consistent with a dog than a mutant. Just saying, it's not my fault he bit me."
"No?" Crystal raised an eyebrow. "You did not taunt him, then, and say things that cause him to become angry or upset? I do not understand, Julian. What has Nick done that makes you feel this way about him?
"Oh, you know, the usual, he nearly ate us once. Gobbled us up like Big Bee Wolf! If I hadn't stopped him, Meghan would be in the belly of the beast so-to-speak. That and he was totally hitting on Angel when he was supposed to be with Catseye, the guy just isn't any good and he's too uncontrolled."
"I believe that the situation of which you speak was not a normal one, was it?" Crystal shook his head. "What do you mean by 'uncontrolled'? If you are speaking of his mutant abilities, well, that is the reason many of the students here are in attendance, is it not? Do you have perfect control over your abilities now? Did you have the control you have now when you first arrived?"
That gave the drugged teen a moment of pause, but he pressed on regardless, "But when I lose control, I don't try to eat people."
"Taking on the form of a natural predator is not a part of your mutant gifts," Crystal pointed out. "What your New Mutants teammate does when he loses control is no different than what you have done by moving various items without meaning to or what I did when I caused it to rain in the MedLab and nearly set Forge's lab on fire without wishing to do either one of those things."
"I think it's totes different, Crystal," he said with a small yawn. "I mean, otherwise he's an okay guy and all, I just don't care for him- can't tell me that you like everyone you work with, right?"
"I might not actively like everyone, but that does not mean that I actively dislike them," Crystal explained. "No one says that you have to like Nicholas or consider him to be a friend, but the way you have treated him is not right. Mutants are hated in many places outside of these gates; this school should be a safe, welcoming environment as much as possible. He is here to learn, just as you are, and he does not deserve to be looked down upon due to the nature of his gifts."
"But I deserve to get bit or clawed or whatever?" Julian snorted and then sniffled. "I didn't taunt him, or anything, he just got pissed off that he wasn't doing well and went off on me when my back was turned."
Crystal shook her head. "No, I am not saying that you deserved to be injured like this, and you do need to rest." She didn't believe that the other boy 'just got pissed' without being taunted, but she didn't feel the need to press the point with Julian now. "You do not have to think of anyone as a friend, but it is true that a little kindess goes a long way."
The dog was turning everyone against him, "Make sure to tell, Gleason that too."
"Right now we do not know where he is, but yes, perhaps I will speak with him when he returns to the school," Crystal told Julian. "He is one of my students, after all, just as you are."
