Nick and Catseye - post medlab
Feb. 12th, 2010 04:43 pmCatseye visits Nick after he is released from the medlab, before going to visit Jean-Paul.
Bag of burgers in her hand, Catseye knocked on the door to Nick's suite, three times in rapid succession. "Nick?" Three more knocks. "Nick?" Three more. "Nick? Are you sleeping? Can I come in? I have burgers!" Which he could no doubt smell anyway, unless he really was sleeping. "I waited until you were out of the medlab like I was supposed to!"
Nick quickly rolled out of his bed and moved to the door. He was still a bit afraid of seeing people, but Catseye most of all. She had seen his true nature, and the boy was sure that she was here for the inevitable break-up. Taking in a deep breath, he opened the door just a crack and looked out to see her, a smile appeared on his face, no matter how hard he tried to hide it. "Cats, I wasn't expecting you so quickly."
"Quickly?" she scoffed at the barely-open door, indignant. "I wanted to be napping with you in the medlab but Mister Kurt told me I had to let you sleep!"
The boy took a step back, still surprised that she wasn't just here to break his heart and leave. Taking a shuffled step backwards, he let the door open a bit more and scratched the back of his head. "Would you like to come in?"
Nodding emphatically, Catseye transferred the food bag to her left hand as she strode into his room, then thwapped him upside the back of his head with her right hand. "Don't you ever, ever run away without telling me!" she told him, growling. "It is Not Allowed. Not Allowed at all. It is not The Way Things Are!"
"Oww!" Nick grabbed the side of his head and quickly started rubbing it. He know she didn't mean to, but Catseye hit a lot stronger than she intended most of the time. "The way things are? If I promise not to run, will you stop hitting me?"
"Yes," she answered with another nod. "I will not hit if you promise not to run. When I was sad and wanted to leave you made me promise not to leave without telling you and I am saying you are not allowed to leave without telling me! Especially when leaving makes you be in danger!"
Nick laughed remembering his own words to the girl a while ago. "It's a deal then. I won't leave without telling you, and you can't leave without telling me." Hesitantly, the boy stepped forward wrapping his hands around the girls waist. "To tell you to truth, I probably would have made a run for it a long time ago if it weren't for you..." Surprisingly, it felt right to be around Catseye, even after everything he had been through this past week.
"I do not know if I like this 'I will not leave if you do not and you will not leave if I do not' deal actually Nick," she frowned. "Because I do not want to leave anymore and I do not want you to leave either because I would be sad if you left because I do not want to be here without you."
The boy paused for a second, wrapping his finger on his chin for a few seconds. "Well, how about this, if either of us has to leave for something, then the other one comes with them." He smiled and looked deep into her eyes for a second. "Unless you're on a crazy X-Men mission and they don't let me go." The boy winked. "But I'll still try."
"Okay," Catseye nodded. "So how come you had to leave this time? Because of Julian?"
"Because I was afraid I couldn't control myself." The boy looked into the air, trying to pull the words down from an unseen space. "It's like I wasn't myself, it was like I was the wolf. And I was afraid that I couldn't control myself any longer. I mean, what would happen if I turned on Lex, or Professor Sefton or even you." The boys sight line dropped to the floor. "I couldn't live with myself."
Catseye moved over to his desk and unpacked the burgers she'd brought. "You will not learn how to control yourself if you run away," she pointed out. "You have to make mistakes and stay so you learn how to not do them again. Leaving because you are afraid is sillystupid." Just like she was trying to explain to Kevin- pushing people away because you didn't want to hurt them just hurt everyone.
"I'm learning that." The boy spun the girl around, kissing her on the lips before looking deep into her eyes. "Plus, it looks like I have a reason to stay now more than ever."
"Because Mister-" Catseye clamped her mouth shut, eyes going wide. "Whoops it is a secret I forgot! So what is the reason you have to stay now?" she asked instead.
"You." Was all the boy got out, his grin wider than ever.
"Oh." That wasn't what she thought he would say, but maybe Kurt hadn't told Nick that he was going to be Nick's father. "Well yes I am here but only if you do not run away when you are afraid. The next time you make a mistake you should not run away you should come tell me or Mister Kurt or someone else who loves you and can tell you it will be okay."
"It's a deal." Although he was still shaky about it at the beginning of the day, he was sure now that coming back to the mansion was the right choice.
