Pixie skipped out of English class and walked briskly down a path through the North Lawn. Despite the clear sky and the midday sun beating down, it was still pretty chilly. Winter wasn't over yet. Soon, she hoped. She was sick of covering her wings with a bulky hoodie. She was sick of being indoors. And she was homesick, just a little bit. She was more depressed by Jay leaving than she thought she would be. Though they'd had such a brief connection, Pixie had been reminded so much of her older sister Molly, and what it was like to have an older sibling.

Dead, lonely winter she thought as she stopped by the fountain. It was off, but she plopped down on a nearby bench anyway, not ready to go back inside. She had a full hour before her next class.

"Out for some time to think?" a voice asked from a nearby stand of trees. "Or just for a walk?"

Pixie looked up and didn't see anyone by the fountain. She looked around to the trees and spotted one of the teachers, Kurt Sefton.

"Oh, hi," she greeted him. "Umm, I guess a bit of both. Thinking. Walking." She smiled weakly.

"That is what we have such big grounds for." He swung down off his branch, smiling back more genuinely. "But is everything all right?"

"Yeah, I guess. I've just been thinking of home lately. Mum, dad. Well, they're gone. Mostly my sister. She... doesn't she even want to know where I am?" she blurted out, aware that it didn't sound completely coherent but not caring at the moment.

"Oh, I see." His smile faded as he walked to her side. "She has not contacted you since you came here?"

"No... I didn't try too hard to contact her either. But I did leave my new address and stuff with our auntie. Molly could have sent me a letter or e-mailed me if she wanted to. Auntie sent me a Christmas card."

"And where is your sister now? Particularly busy, perhaps?" he suggested.

"She went to London. She always wanted to go to University there. But, I don't know which one she's enrolled at, if any. She also really wanted to get her band going. She has loads of talent. She probably is super busy," she conceded with a sigh.

"You should ask your aunt", Kurt told her encouragingly. "To find out where your sister is studying, and then you could make the first contact. If she does not respond... at least you will have given her the chance."

"Yeah... it would be better than not knowing what's going on." She thought of Cats going to spy on her father person. This didn't have to be as complicated as that. "Neither Auntie or Molly know about me being a mutant. Should I tell them?"

"They are going to have to find out sooner or later", he said gently. "Since you mean to see them again. It would be better coming straight from you, no?"

"Yeah. Molly and I used to be really close. Auntie was always really weird, but she is family right? She's going a little crazy anyway so it probably won't even register when I tell her why I'm really here in New York." Megan smiled a little. The cards Auntie sent were always signed from the old lady and her five poodles.

"And they may well be more accepting than you fear", Kurt offered. "There is no way you can really know until you try."

"You could be right... it's sometimes worse in your head than it is in reality, isn't it?" She felt immensely relieved.

"Very often", Kurt said with a smile. "Especially when you have heard stories of how badly it could go."

"Yeah, a lot of the kids here have such sad stories. I don't want it to be like that when my family finds out. Well, Molly knows about my wings but she doesn't know the cause. She hasn't heard of mutants. Or maybe she does now, but she didn't then. And my wings weren't fully formed then, they looked more like tumors under my skin. Ahh, I better not over-think this any more than I already have." She took a calming breath and tried to still the chatter in her brain as Laurie had taught her. It seemed to work.

"I like talking to you. Can I come talk to you again, teach?"

"Of course you can. Any time you wish - my door is always open if a student needs me."

"Thanks," she said with a bright smile.
