Julian & Angel: In the Pool
Apr. 16th, 2010 09:21 amA rather tense moment is diffused by slapstick comedy and promises of Rockband.
Julian was doing laps in the cool water of the pool- enjoying the sensation of the mixing of melt, rain and chlorinated water against his mostly bare skin. He'd already done his requisite daily mile and now was starting some laps for fun. It had been almost a year-and-a-half since he'd arrived at Xavier's and he was now finally finding the early spring weather more palatable than when he'd first experienced it.
By the time he'd finished another lap, a pair of legs had entered the equation. Dangling near the steps, they swished back and forth lazily, stirring up bubbles and a small wave. The more they swished, the warmer the water became. Never to a boiling point but warm enough that the difference was certainly noticeable.
Julian stopped at the wall and took off his goggles, smiling up at Angel. "Angelica Jones, what brings you down to the pool this fine day?" He considered splashing her but didn't know how well she'd take it...and she was heating the water, which was nice.
"Shouldn't I be asking you that since I practically live in the pool?" she teased, leaning forward with her elbows on her knees. Though it was generally earlier when Angel came down to do her swimming routine - she could be found in the pool anywhere between 5:30 and 6, almost every single morning.
Julian scoffed, "Just because I can't use this pool for half-the-effing year doesn't make you the master of these waters," for some reason he always gotten more eloquent while in the water. He pushed off the wall and started to tread water, "You getting in?"
"There's always the in-door pool, Mr. It's Too Cold Here!" Angel paused and looked down at herself and then back up at Julian. She wasn't wearing a bathing suit as she'd just been wandering the grounds with her camera for a while - but a tank top and shorts were just as good when you could speed dry them later. Pausing long enough to take her cell phone out of the pocket, she grinned and shimmied into the water.
Inwardly, Julian grinned, then looked around to make sure Nico wasn't up and about- though she was probably still in bed, dead to the world at this hour. "I don't like in-door pools, they just don't," he shrugged, sinking a little bit as he did, "feel right, I guess."
She dunked herself under the water and popped up again to push her hair and streaming water out of her face. "That's because you're a giant weirdo," she teased before she splashed him lightly. It was still a bit odd with Julian, especially as he was (she thought) with Nico, but at least they were back to being friends again.
Julian rolled his eyes and drifted closer to her, "Says the girl who can turn the swimming pool into a hot-tub."
Angel cupped a hand to her ear. "Is that complaining, I hear? I don't do it for my benefit, you know. It's not like I can actually feel the difference in the water!" She looked down into the pool and grinned. "Be glad I learned control over this trick real fast."
"Lemme guess, you boiled someone alive you wicked villainess you." Julain gave a chuckle and laid back, enjoying the now warm water.
"Oh yeah, like, half a dozen people," she responded dryly but mentally stayed away from that conversation because, really, all she could think of was waking up as part of a live battery. Unable to control her powers for the first time in ages... In response, Angel ducked under the water when Julian wasn't looking and waited for a moment before grabbing his ankle and yanking.
"GA-lub!" Julian cried out, not expecting to be pulled under suddenly. When he finally surfaced, he gasped for air and looked around with vengence on the mind. "Can't hold your breath forever, Jones!"
Well, it helped that she was no longer in the water. Angel floated a good six feet above the water level, arms crossed over her chest as she peered down at him. While he'd been flailing about, she'd launched herself up and out of the pool because she knew the kind of guy he was. He'd so do the same to her if he could.
She was no where to be seen, "Angel?" he asked confused.
"You know, I totally should just let you freak out," Angel informed him with a laugh, taking pity on him after a few seconds. "But I'm a nice person, so I'll give away my position to you."
Julian looked up and rolled his eyes, "Showing off again, hmm?"
"Oh, no. I was showing off when I heated the water up for you," Angel said, right before she spun on her axis so she could hover upside down. The tips of her hair brushed the water and sizzled slightly so she pulled up a bit. "The better part of valor meant I amscrayed when you came spluttering up."
With a smirk, Julian moved back a bit and popped the telekinetic bubble he'd formed at the bottom of the pool, sending a plume of water splashing skyward toward Angel.
That got her to shriek in shock, especially as the force caused her to bob precariously in the air. Angel almost hit the surface of the water but flared brighter, causing the sudden waterfall to evaporate around her. Still upside down and less than an inch from the pool, she sulked at Julian. "Does that make us even or do I need to up the ante?"
"I'd say we're even," Julian shrugged, "but that's just one man's opinion." Despite his sureity that she wouldn't retaliate, Jules swam back a few feet to the wall and pressed himself against it.
"Oh look who's making sure now!" Angel teased right before she took a deep breath and stopped flying. She broke the water level and twisted, kicking her legs as she swam over to where Julian was ... being prudent. Breaking the surface, she snickered at him as she leaned her head on the wall, saying, "Well, now that we've terrorized each other, now what?
A few thoughts raced through his head and not for the first time he was glad she wasn't a telepath. Instead he blushed slightly and shrugged, "I don't know, you, um, have any ideas?"
"It's pretty nice out but we're teenagers - do you hear Rock Band calling your name?" She'd have to change clothes but living in the same place you hung out in helped with that. Angel could, and would so she didn't bring Kyle's wrath down on her head, flash dry her clothes but the chlorine would make them stiff and nasty. A new everything would be in order if they were going to head indoors.
"Rock Band sounds great," he said, lifting himself out of the water and floating his towel over to himself. "As long as you're not expecting me to race you inside."
Angel laughed as she pushed herself off from the wall to dive down, blasting up out of the water a moment later. "I don't torment people with losing propositions!" she teased. "See you in ten!"
