BBP: A Reunion
May. 7th, 2010 12:33 pmKurt returns to the mansion with the sister of his adopted son in tow.
Nicholas Gleason had been pacing in front of the door since his early wake up at 5 AM. He was sure that the mansion dwellers who didn't sleep, and even some of those who did, were quickly getting annoyed with the sound of his feet hitting the floor over and over again. But he really didn't care. All that he cared about was getting an updated from Professor Sefton. The boy was always told that no new was good news, but the silence both before and after last night's plot to rescue his sister wasn't sitting well with him.
The door opened quietly, and three figures came in. Kurt spotted Nick instantly and nodded, stepping aside to let Natalie see him.
The boy rushed forward, wrapping his hands around the girl. "Nat!" A huge smile passed over his face as he pulled the girl in close to his chest, but after only a few seconds he let the girl slide back slightly, glancing over the length of her body. "Are you hurt? Did that bastard do anything to you?"
Her hands up in a defensive position, Natalie Gleason giggled slightly, "I'm fine Nicky." The girl was still fidgety a little, but was at least able to pull up the corners of her mouth into a half-hearted smile.
The boy swept his feet around gesturing further into the mansion. "Aren't you coming in?" His nervous hands found their way into his pockets as he rocked back on his heels. "I promise, everything's going to be just fine."
But the girl stayed put on the front walk of the mansion, shaking her head from side to side. "I'm still a little bit in shock to be honest. I-I-I don't think it'd be the best idea for me to barge in, with... you know..." Her face fell to the ground, a rose color appearing on her cheeks. "The way I've acted towards you all." As she played with her feet, she began to nervously fumble with a small silver necklace around her neck.
"Others before you have been forgiven for worse", Kurt said quietly from behind her. "The principal of the institute will probably want to meet with you, but I think he will allow you to stay as long as you need or wish to."
The girl hesitantly let pushed her feet across the threshold to the mansion, looking around the corners of the mansion's entrance way, she smiled nervously as she clutched tightly onto the necklace in her hand.
"You should stay in Nick's room for tonight, I think", Kurt decided. "I am sure the two of you have much to talk about, and as much need for sleep. Before you go, though... Nick, a word?"
The boy nodded at the professor before touching his hand to his sister's shoulder for a brief second. "I'll be right back. Everything's going to be fine." He tried to give the girl a reassuring smile before turning back towards his adopted father.
Kurt kept his voice low and an eye on the girl as he spoke to Nick, just in case. "Be wary of what you say to Natalie, my boy. It may well be this is no more than it seems, but if it is some plot by Risman... best she thinks this place is nothing but a school and a refuge, and the teachers only teachers."
The boy took a sudden double take back from the professor trying to take in what Kurt was saying. "I'm just happy to have my sister back." The boy let his face fall to the ground. He let himself look over the shoulder of the professor to catch a glance at his still nervous sister near the door to the mansion. "But if it makes you feel better, I won't show her where the X-Men meet." He tried to let out a small smile, the boy was just giddy to have his only surviving family back with him.
"And of course you should be happy." Kurt smiled. "I am not saying do not be... only, be cautious for a little while yet. Now, go, catch up with your sister."
"I'll do my best, but honestly professor, I don't think that my sister is some evil mastermind." With one last grin, the boy quickly moved towards his sister's position.
Kurt watched him go, smile fading as soon as the boy's back was turned. Under his breath, so neither of the younger people could hear, he murmured, "It is not her mastermind I am worried about."
