Kurt and Garrison share duty down in the situation room, reviewing the post-mission involving Risman's intentions. The conversation drifts somewhat.

"I think they let Sam make the coffee again." Garrison scowled into his ceramic mug, and then at the carafe on the hot plate at the side of the situation room. It was custom that the person on comm duty in the morning also replenished the carafe of coffee, although occasionally, someone would try and 'help' by doing it themselves. Usually that someone was also one of the people who never drew morning comm duty due to their awful coffee. He set the mug down and dropped back into his chair at the reactive table. "So, what's next?"

Kurt shuffled through the sheaf of papers in his hand, then pulled one out. "The unfortunately very undetailed snatch of conversation I heard in the Purifier stronghold? They are clearly up to something major."

"Yeah, I took a look through the Bureau's records, but it didn't match up on anything." Garrison started typing, pulling up records in the mansion's system and displaying them holographically above them. "We've got, what, the attack in Chicago, now this one in Minnisota. Is it tied to a regional support structure?"

"I think they are still a fairly small organization, compared to, say, the Preservers and certainly to the Friends of Humanity", Kurt told him. "With Risman as the only real leader I know of. I do wish I could place the man he was speaking to."

"Well, we've got some limited search resources, but no one on our immediate radar popped up. I can eliminate a few of our unfriendlies as suspects, but otherwise, it's a big world of villainy that is in the mix."

That got a rueful smile. "Far too true, even when we eliminate all those who would not collaborate with the Purifiers for whatever reason."

"Yeah, I wish there were a few more of those." Garrison took another sip of the coffee and scowled. "Magneto would happily puppet them along if it worked for his long term goals. Or the Black Court of the Hellfire Club. They could even be a part of the Friends of Humanity, but a splinter or an off-shoot. What's the latest on Risman?"

"Not a great deal more than we already knew, I am afraid, even with Natalie Gleason having defected. She did not know very much of any use."

"It would make our job a lot easier if the nefarious evil masterminds would divulge their plans in complete to their teenaged converts. We could have this wrapped up before lunch if that was the case." Kane mock groused, typing in a few more commands. "So, we can't track Risman, Natalie doesn't know anything, and we don't have a way to really get inside the Purifiers. Feels like this is a 'we wait until they do something' situation."

"For now, I think it may be", he had to admit. "Though in that case, we will have to hope their plan is not completed in a single step. Very few are, after all."

"Great. So we'll know it's happening right around the time it lands on our heads." Kane made a few notes and saved the file. "Hopefully we'll get a break before then. Risman gets picked up on a DUI or something and saved us the trouble of chasing him down and finding out what his deal is."

Kurt snorted. "I suppose we might get lucky enough for that. I would suggest we could send in one of our own as an infiltrator, but that raises the problem of who."

"There's also the time factor. We'd need to get someone in, have them be trusted, and then elevated to a position in which they would have advanced intelligence about what's being planned and when. If this was, say, a gang the Bureau had targeted, it would be at least a ten man team coordinating it, and six months before anything useful was expected to come back." Kane said, shaking his head. "I'll admit, the temptation is to try and sweat it out of them, but they aren't the talking types."

"Certainly not the ones loyal enough to have anything worth talking about", he agreed. "Which brings us back to waiting as the only viable option."

"Well, this morning officially now sucks. What are your plans for the rest of the day?" Kane said, mock-jokingly. There was always a level of gallows humour in the situation room during times like this.

"I suspect it will probably involve time with either whatever member of my family I can find, or Monet", Kurt answered more seriously, but smiling. "To make the afternoon more enjoyable, at least."

Kane caught his eye, trying to keep a straight face and failing miserably. "Yeah, yeah, I imagine it would." Kurt wasn't normally one to indulge in the locker room behaviour, and he couldn't imagine it was anything other than a verbal misstep, but Garrison was happy to lighten the mood.

"Or with Monet!" Kurt protested, laughing in turn. "You know what I meant. Although..."

"Oh, if you're going to tell me about some kind of old circus trick that involves a trapeze and sauerkraut that the two of you have turned into a sexy night out, I'm going to pass." Kane joked, waving his hands back and forth. "My girlfriend has a wounded side and I'm stuck down here until the end of the shift, so there are images I don't need."

"I find it hard to imagine anyone managing to make any kind of sexy night out involving sauerkraut", was the amused response. "I am sorry Adrienne is hurt again."

"She got a barn dropped on her in Pakistan. It's not bad, but her 'mobility', let's say, is a little impaired. I consider her pretty lucky it wasn't worse, all things considered."

"Absolutely", he agreed. "Especially since her mutation would have been of no help in protecting her. I think we were all very lucky, really."

"To get out of that one with everyone alive? Yeah, we really are." Kane sighed, shaking away the fears that still gripped him from time to time. "Alright, oh captain my captain, I guess our review is done here. I'll finish the rest of the updates before I get relieved. You want me to call ahead to Monet's room, let her know you're coming." He said, finishing off his words with a sly grin.

Kurt grinned back, setting down his paperwork. "I think I will surprise her. As far as anyone can with a telepath."

"I think just using the tail would work."
