After Dori talks to her mom, she talks to Kyle, because really, if you were Dori, who else would you want to talk to about being on the X-Men? Right. The guy whose powers are pretty much the same as yours only without the tail.

Kyle hadn't done much more than blink a few times at Dori's email before deciding that this was not a conversation he was going to have with her over email, or the journals - or even anywhere near the mansion. There were too many distractions, people wanting him to fix this or that other thing, or just people being around and loud.

And besides, he'd been saving a coupon for just this occasion because if there was -anyone- who would appreciate the culinary ridiculousness of the Luther Burger, it was Doreen Green. So his responses had been mostly brief and involving the words 'over food' and 'I'm paying" and that was really all it took to get her out, and staring down a cheeseburger between two halves of a honey-glazed donut.

"I don't know if this is the most amazing thing ever or if I should be very, very afraid," Doreen said, looking down at her plate, "Will this kill me if I eat it?"

"Well, if you die, then you don't gotta talk to the Prof about this, and if you don't die, then you go talk to him with the most totally crazy cheeseburger ever in your stomach. Win-win situation." Kyle said, after swallowing a decent sized bite of his own burger. It had bacon. "But I think at worst, you'll just be bouncing off the walls. You know, like usual."

"Yeah, I suppose it isn't any different than usual," Doreen noted, taking a couple of sniffs before taking a large bite out of the burger, "This. Is. Amazing."

"Toldja. Okay, now finish your burger so I can totally give you the I am a big scary superhero speech and tell you about all the times I got shot." It was a little disturbing to Kyle just how casually he could say that. Being shot had gotten ... well, not boring, it was never boring. It had just gotten a little bit routine. "Or something. I think I might actually skip the being shot part. I've never gotten to actually give this speech before. It's kind of awesome!"

"Ib knothw righbth?" Doreen said, her mouth full. She wanted to hear the super hero speech. Hell, she just wanted to be able to do this. In part because it had to be totally kick ass and fun. And in part because it had to be the right thing to do. In the mean time, she stuffed her face with dounut burger.

Kyle had no problem waiting until Dori finished her burger, because he needed the time to finish his. If he was going to buy something this damn ridiculous, he was going to eat it. And it had bacon. "You know that even if we're awesome and get to be superheros that a lot of it sucks, right? I mean I was only kinda joking about the being shot part. I've been shot. It hurts, and it pissed me off, and it was not fun."

"Duh. Haven't you ever read a comic book? Heroes never have it easy, and it has to be worse in real life," Doreen said. Yes, she knew the difference between reality and fiction. Most of the time it was really easy, "I mean, it's sort of obvious that it would kinda suck a lot. And yeah, getting shot sounds like a major ouch."

Kyle nodded. He wasn't too worried that Dori was doing this because she had some cockamanie idea that it would be just like whatever comic book she was reading these days. "Okay, I gotta ask. How serious are you about this? Because I'm gonna tell you right now, it's a lot of work just being on the team, and you're probably gonna get the same talk I did about school and grades and having something to do that's not just 'Be a Superhero."

"My grades are good," Doreen pointed out. They weren't stellar, but they were better here than they ever were back home, "And I'm really serious about this. Totally, totally serious. It won't get in the way of my job or my school work. I mean, it might get in the way of my WoW, but that won't be that bad at least according to my mom and stuff."

Kyle couldn't help but clap a hand over his face. "No, it is totally gonna get in the way of everything. You're gonna miss classes and have to make up work, which is gonna suck cause you're gonna do that instead of, I dunno, fighting, um... dragons? What the heck do you fight in that game anyway?" Dammit, now he was getting distracted. "Mostly I just wanna make sure that sometime next week you're not gonna quit on training. Or next month, or sometime in October when I start getting really mean." He was gonna be all subtle about slipping that in, and then he remembered this was him, and this was Dori. Subtle? Not either of their things.

"Undead, dragons a bit of everything. I'm not going to change my mind on this, I swear!" Doreen said. She had wanted to be some form of super hero since she was six. But that was a different sort of story, "And I could never hate you."

"Right. Just like the X-Men." Kyle had fought zombies, and he'd seen a dragon. Or .. whatever that Chinese thing had been. He flashed Dori a quick toothy grin. "Yeah, five bucks says you tell me hate me at least once before Christmas."
