Doreen Green with Monkey Joe in tow, visits the mansion's resident blue doctor to join the X-Men.
Hank was intently looking through his microscope at the blood sample between the two thin pieces of glass. The blue doctor was so focused that the only thought that came to mind when the lab doors opened was that Laurie was back to run more tests. He certainly wasn't expecting to feel a small, furry animal running up his lab coat as he watched his nanites consume the red blood cells, replacing them with artificial ones. Jumping as the squirrel clicked in his ear, Hank quickly realized who must have come in. "Miss Green, how are you today," he smiled, quickly regaining his composure.
"Monkey Joe! I told you not to do that," Doreen said, rushing over to collect her squirrelly BFF and put him back on her shoulder, "Sorry about that. I'm good! How're you today?" she asked, smiling in that way teenagers had when they wanted something.
"Quite fine thank you," he said, reading her body language with the precision of someone who had worked with teenagers for much of his life. "Give me a moment, please," he said, taking a small remove and pointing it at the slide and pressing the button as an arc of electricity reached out and fried the tiny robots. "There, now, what can I do for you?"
"Well, I was sort of wondering if I could maybe sort of talk to you about something," Doreen said in her round about way, "That's kinda important and stuff."
Hank motioned for her to have a seat in one of the steel rolling stools he kept around his work area before grabbing one himself. "What's on your mind, Miss Green?"
"Well, I kind of talked to Kyle," mmm, Kyle - no, focus! she thought, mentally slapping herself before going on, "And I was sort of thinking about joining the team. I already got Mom's permission."
"Sort of thinking, you say?" his lips quirking up at an amused angle. From what he had heard from staff meetings was that Doreen Green had been aching to be on the team since she found out about it upon her arrival- it was no shock that she'd broach the subject, though the fact that it was with him was surprising as they'd only ever had a few interactions outside the Med Lab. "And what team would you be referring to anyway, Miss Green?"
The answer was a pretty simple one, in actuality. It was seeking out someone she considered to be 'like her.' And Logan was completely out of the question as far as asking went. At least with being somewhat comfortable doing so, "Oh, you know, the team."
"Ah, that team- what exactly did you tell your mother?" Hank crossed his arms over his chest, waiting for the answer.
"That if she said no I'd do it anyway when I was eighteen but that I really wanted her to say yes because you know, it wouldn't be nice to do it without her saying it was okay," Doreen said honestly.
"So you never told her about the physical danger inherit to the position? Have you considered that part of it?" Hank removed his glasses and looked into her brown eyes with all due seriousness.
"I told her about that," Doreen said, "I'm not going to lie to her."
"Well that's good, but have you considered the fact you may get seriously hurt doing this?"
"Yeah, and that's not going to stop me. If I can help someone, it doesn't matter. I mean, you don't have to be stupid about what you're doing, but still," Doreen said.
Hank smiled and nodded, "Good, you seem to sincerely wish to do good- and that's, at its core, what being an X-Man is all about. Have you spoken with anyone else about this yet? Professor Xavier perhaps?" He wasn't officially a team leader, but it had been made clear that if he wanted the position, it could certainly have been his. Unfortunately, healers had their hands full in the situations the X-Men were typically called in on.
Doreen shook her head, then paused, "Well, I talked to Kyle about it."
"What did Mister Gibney have to say about the X-Men?"
"That it wouldn't be easy and it would be really hard work," Doreen said.
Hank nodded and took a few steps toward the other side of his desk before pausing and turning around. "I will let the Professor know that you're interested in joining up and she should be in touch with you with your username and password for the database. Before you're officially on the team, you'll need to review the past X-Men case files and mission records to familiarize yourself with what has happened that you didn't know about and what really happened to the events you do. In addition to that, I've been toying with the idea of a danger room simulation for the team's trainees, so- unless Charles objects- I think you'd be welcome to join in on the festivities."
"Oooh! That'd be great!" Dori bounced, "I'll even like the reading!"
