The X-Men arrive in Chicago and make their plans.

It was always a little unnerving to see the Blackbird fly off with the team on the ground, but it was needed for emergencies and the X-Men didn't expect to catch up with their arsonist for at least a day. The leathers had been shelved for normal street wear, so their booking into a local motel didn't raise so much as an eyebrow. As much as he hated to do it, Yvette was traveling under the image inductor; the sharp skinned red mutant would raise too many questions, especially since the local papers at the first glance had the arsons on the front page. It was only a matter of time before someone leaked the mutant angle to them.

Still, there was an important issue to settle immediately. "Jean-Phillipe." Garrison pulled the younger man out of the pack and took him to one side. "Look, I know the Professor asked you to come along because you're about the same age as our suspect, and can help put him at ease. I also know what you did on the ground in Pakistan. But I need you to promise me that you won't so much as breathe without getting my permission."

Jean-Phillipe's first, laugh in the face of authority reaction was to make some crass comment about Garrison holding his penis if he had to take a piss. But, under that hard, devil-may-care exterior, he really did want to prove to the rest of the X-Men that he was serious about this. So the indicator of his rankling under the instruction was a brief frustrated sigh before he nodded. "Certainment," he agreed. Besides, it did make sense. After all, he was diving feet first into an uncertain team dynamic.

"Good. This should be an easy mission, but it's got the potential for clusterfuck written all over it. Just keep your eyes open, and you'll be able to help." He left it at that. He doubted the Professor was all that comfortable with Jean-Phillipe going out ahead of the others, but he had the right combination of age and experience that made him the safest choice, despite his junior status.

Nearby, Yvette fidgeted uncomfortably. Inducers were always problematic for her, not because of the side effects, but because of the psychological ones. Somehow it seemed every time she was determined to deal with her appearance, something came along that made that difficult. Looking into a mirror and seeing the same face she'd had not so long ago under the influence of Haven's powers was a kind of torture.

"So, what is to be our first move?" she asked generally, wanting to take her mind off herself and get it back onto the job at hand.

"After we're checked in, I'm going to drop by the briefing and see what leads the police are following. Since we've got a rough idea where the kid is, you guys can start running down leads in the area. If he's hiding, it's either going to be in some kind of abandoned or empty building, or he's got friends who have stashed him."

"Got it, we search the empty factories, warehouses and churches in the area." said Piotr from the corner before approaching Garrison. "I think somebody should go with you to the police. This M-squad may not be as noble as everybody seems to be counting on & I'd prefer you to have back up." He said quietly so that most of the team couldn't hear. He didn't want to call in to question the authority of the person running the mission in front of the team but he also knew that a single target walking into the lions den wasn't a great plan.

"I think I'm relatively safe, but there's no sense taking any risks. Hey Paige, I'm taking Piotr with me to the briefing. You alright to start the search without us?"

"Am I okay with bossing people around while in my head humming sneaky ninja theme music, let me think," Paige pondered aloud, fingers to her chin. "Come along, my darlings. I made a Google map on my phone on the way over and there's a pit-stop for milkshakes."

"I dibs shotgun," Laurie noted, following after Paige as instructed.

"I dibs shotgun, too," Jan said. "No sense in all of us being squished in a car when I don't have to take up much space." Being small also meant they would have one less person out in the open to attract attention and if they happened to find the kid she'd already be in her stealth mode.
"But we do not have
the shotguns," Yvette pointed out as they made their way to the to the car. "And can someone be opening the door for me? I cannot see where my fingers really are."

Jean-Phillipe swept open one of the rear doors as they got to the car and made a gallant bow. "Apres vous, mademoiselle."
