X-Men Mission: Who You Gonna Call?
Oct. 30th, 2010 02:32 pmA second team of X-Men assembles in response to the distress signal.
They had all seen the emergency notice regarding the X-Men team sent to Chicago. It had cut through all other business on the comms, and Xavier had been clear that under no circumstances would he leave them in the field a second longer than necessary. Which had led to a quickly assembled response team in the hanger, loading up the Blackbird for a second trip to Chicago in just over 24 hours.
Jean sat in the pilot's seat of the Blackbird as she waited for the other X-Men to get on board. ~ "We must keep in mind the intelligence we have on the M-Squad suggests a primarily technological base,"~ Jean said as well as broadcast mentally to all who were arriving to make sure they knew what was being said. ~ "From what we know from the Professor, the others are alive but may be compromised by using nullifers to suppress their powers if they have been unable to escape thus far. Keep sharp and focused. We will divide into two groups upon arrival to be able to cover more ground but will still keep as close as we can to one another. The comms will remain on at all times but I will also maintain a psychic link between all of us in the event of an emergency or need for radio silence."~
~"Nightcrawler, Iceman, and Firestar will be in one group while Meltdown, Wildchild, and myself will be in another. Any questions, comments?~
"Yeah, can we stop for some of that Chicago pizza on the way home? My uniform doesn't feel like it's tight enough anymore." Bobby Drake tugged at the leather sleeves of his leathers as he ambled into the Blackbird, already dressed for the occasion. "Oh, you mean about the mission? Sounds pretty simple. Some baddies have our friends, and now it's our job to go take 'em out." As always the smirk on Bobby's face and the sarcastic comments were hiding the nerves that always ran through his entire body as he prepared for a mission.
"I dunno what a power nullifier would even do to me." Kyle said. "I mean, my powers don't really turn off, except for maybe the healing factor." The prospect of his healing factor being turned off was scary, but it was only a real problem if he couldn't get it back on. Even so, he was making sure to wear his uniform jacket. Being shot would
suck.
"I don't really have any questions," came Angel's quiet reply. The idea of her powers being turned off freaked her out as well - she'd spent so many years getting used to not being able to feel the temperature changes as well as extreme heat. The prospect of losing that and having to remember, even briefly, what to do as a normal human was a bit frightening. "I'll just follow Nightcrawler and Iceman's lead."
Kurt shot her a slightly concerned look at the subdued note in her voice, then turned back to Jean. "Obviously, a nullifier would only affect my teleportation, and Wildchild and I, at least, will still have our physical changes, and everyone here has combat training. Perhaps we can find these machines and break them."
Tabitha adjusted the fit of her gloves as she took a chair. "Pay attention, don't depend on our powers." She finished zipping up and buckled in. "I think we got it."
Once everyone was in the Blackbird, Jean dropped back to her regular, "inside" voice. "Disabling the machines is definitely a priority but rescue is the primary goal. If we can find the M-Squad's toys, break them, and get our people out safely at the same time then by all means do so. Nevertheless, we don't fully know what their setup is like to keep people 'trapped,' how many nullifers there are, or if anyone was injured because of their methods so we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it and act accordingly," Jean said. "But if in the event you are effected by a nullifer, stay calm, take extra care, and rely on each other like we always do."
It was old news, given their training, but she felt everyone needed to hear it nonetheless. There was a real possibility, given the M-Squad's promises to the public and the subsequent capture of the other X-Men as proof, but just telling them they might lose their powers meant nothing until it actually happened. They needed to be able to handle the problem should it come. Jean pushed the button that opened the hangar doors, staring up as the sunlight washed over her face.
"And on that note, let's roll." Her hand moved to the throttle and she slowly began to ease it forward.
