Julian is again visited by a law enforcement official, this time Agent Coulson from S.H.I.E.L.D..

It had been a a week since the cryptic visit from Joshua Campbell of Hammer Securities- which had not been very pleasant. Now, he'd been summoned to the same room where a fire was again crackling in the hearth and another man in a trench-coat was staring into the flames. The message bringing him here had been urgent, but- again- unclear as to the purpose of the visitor. Julian rapped his knuckles against the door frame, "Are you here to see me?"

"Mister Keller. Have a seat, please." The man was non-descript; brown hair, light eyed, with a receding hairline and ubiquitious features. It might have been an accountant or middle manager: a functionary who was all but invisible by being quiet, useful and forgettable. The man pulled off the trench coat and draped it over the back of the chair, before reaching for his briefcase. "I believe you spoke with your representatives at Hammer? Josh Campbell?"

"Campbell isn't my representative, Mister...um...I think you have me at a disadvantage." Julian held out his hand over the coffee table that separated them.

"I think someone does, certainly." He switched the files to his left hand and shook Julian's quickly. "I'm Agent Coulson, from SHIELD. I know Josh from way back. He's got a habit of getting involved at exactly the point he shouldn't."

He waved Julian to a seat and took one himself. "When's the last time you spoke to your father, Mister Keller?"

Julian took a seat and crossed one leg over the other, "My father and I aren't exactly on speaking terms, Agent Coulson. Campbell and Hammer Securities takes care of the security for my estranged family while I freeze on the other-side of the country. To answer your question though, the last time I talked to my dad was..." Julian thought for a moment, "a year ago?" The teenager shrugged and intertwined his fingers in his lap.

"Huh." Coulson said, looking at his notes. "Does your family have any enemies, Mister Keller. I'm not talking about business rivals or that kind of thing. Anyone with a personal vendetta against you or your parents?"

"None that I know of. At least since I lived out in Los Angeles that I can think of," Julian shrugged, the coded letter he'd received a few days earlier, coupled with the meeting with Campbell and now this was sending a sinking feeling to the pit of his gut. It was as if an icy fist had hold of his stomach.

"Huh." Coulson said again, infuriatingly mild. "Mister Keller, your parents have been missing now since the start of November. Josh has been conducting his own investigation but has come up short. Which is to be suspected when you try and use your boutique security company to run an investigation that requires a federal scope. But that's not the main issue. He contacted SHIELD, and because of your connection to Xavier's, we've agreed to take over the case. You're sure that you can't think of anyone that might have a reason to attack your family, or through them, you?"

Julian's blood had become ice in his veins, everything was making sense now. "Missing?" The letter from Colorado where the Vault happened to be located, where Simon was now staying. The same man who after failing to kill him a second time was only concerned for the life of his mother who had been kidnapped by, "McPhearson," Julian said in a whisper, staring into space.

"You mean this man?" Coulson handed over a folder, with a photo paperclipped to the inside and a file.

There was no mistaking the mugshot attached to the file, "Yes, that's him...younger, but not by much. Wait, does this mean he's in custody?!" Of course it didn't, Julian realized, the picture would have been current if he'd been arrested.

"No. Gordon McPhearson is a former guest of the California penal system. He was arrested and convicted on charges of drug trafficking, and sentanced to eight years in prison. He was paroled for good conduct after serving five years." Coulson took back the file. "McPhearson is, well, the technical term is 'a bad man'. He's been smart enough to keep his nose clean in public, but our friends in the DEA and the FBI are sure he's got connections to organized crime on the West Coast, and ambitions to move up the ladder. While he's a suspect in your parent's disappearance, we can't find a particular motive that makes any sense. Josh was predictably closed mouthed about the whole thing, so the Director thought that you might be able to shed some light on the topic.

"There was an incident in February with a man named Simon Gutierrez- an old friend of mine from back out West. When we finally subdued Simon, he began ranting that if he didn't assassinate me, then his mother would be...killed." The world seemed to spin for a moment and a long pause filled the air. "It wouldn't be impossible to think that he'd want me for something or other and would use them as leverage...but...I haven't heard anything from him."

"Kidnapping is a federal offense, and the FBI is ready to take this one on. The DEA has their own reasons to get involved and with your ties to Xavier, SHIELD is inclined to take the lead. That is a potentially nasty inter-bureau turf war shaping up, Mister Keller. To resolve it, we're going to need all the information we can get." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a card. "I'm sorry about your parents, but if we're going to locate them, I need you to tell us everything connected with McPhearson that you know. You should probably bring a lawyer."

Julian took the card from Coulson, the boy's hand shaking like a leaf in the wind. "A lawyer? You don't think I had something to do with this do you?"

"I don't 'think' anything, Mister Keller. The connection to your parents' possible kidnapper is a man you've had dealings with. If it's a vendetta against you, we need to know everything about how it happened, including anything that might have been the result of... poor decisions on your part. If you're involved, the lawyer makes sure there's no technicalities to toss out the case when we bring you into court."

Julian nodded, staring into the fire. "I'll call you when I have representation then," he said absently.

"Good. I'll be on my way." Coulson collected his jacket and briefcase. "Mister Keller, if you're not involved, please keep in mind, we're the best chance of getting your parents home safely. You'll be tempted to try and handle things yourself. Don't."

With that, he left.

Not gonna lie, Agent Coulson is my favorite bit character in the MU movies right now, so I kind of love you a bit for using him.

I was sad when he didn't get to taze Tony like he threatened to.
