Nico is brooding on her balcony when Julian interrupts her.

There was something wrong with the scene.

It wasn't the sunrise; the sunset was lovely, mind you. It wasn't the time of the day, since she wasn't sleeping much anyway. It was...her? Watching the ocean? Brooding? No, that was all pretty much common for her. Maybe it was the fact she was feeling like should be somewhere else. Anywhere else. Like running away. The sunrise and the silence would have to do for the time being, because she was being forced to run away later...but that wasn't what she felt out of place. Sadly enough, it didn't have to do with Julian's dilemma -quite the girlfriend she was- and she didn't know if she should have protested more about staying here. With him. For him.

Something was definitely off.

Julian couldn't sleep either and quietly opened the balcony door off of his old room to watch the mixture of purple, red and orange mix against the deep blue of the pacific ocean. It was a pleasant surprise to see his girlfriend also up and around at this hour and he cracked a smile for the first time since arriving in Malibu, "Hey pretty lady, come here often?" He gave her a smarmy smile.

The moment she heard Julian, all her thoughts turned a bit brighter. "Only when about to be turned in to the authorities, good sir; it helps me calm my mind, considering the trials that await for for me." That sounded oddly ominous. "Dude, we should totally see more sunrises on our lives." Yeah, more like a teenager, if a bit sulky.

Julian arched a brow and leaned on the marble railing that separated them, "Are you okay? You're being all..broody."

"My parents." Because that explained everything. "I had...forgotten they were there. Deluded myself I was just...a girl. With a staff. And some magic. But...just a girl, not important at all. They reminded me of the dark stuff that will happen to me." She would love to forget, really.

Lowering his brow, Julian pushed himself up and over the rail, onto Nico's balcony. "What have I told you, Pumpkin- those prophecies aren't going to come true so long as I'm here." He took her hand in his and gave it a gentle squeeze.

"Your nicknaming skills suck." But she was grinning now, which was good. "You know, those books where the main character fights his destiny and manages to change it, and everything goes fine?" She sighed. "Crap, all that is crap. I was raised with the firm belief that you can't trick destiny. Being the good catholic girl I am and everything...there's a plan, all the time." She looked up though, and shrugged. "I'm going to make them eat their words, anyway. I'm nobodies tool."

Her boyfriend pulled Nico into his arms and held her tightly, "The future is not written in stone, it can be changed...didn't you learn anything by watching The Terminator?"

Nico was sulking, but Julian couldn't seen her while he was holding her like that. Maybe that was for the best. "You know they never really managed to change the future in those movies, do you?" A beacon of optimism, this Goth certainly was.

"Shush," Julian chided her, "they didn't, but we will." A moment of silence passed between them as waves crashed against the shoreline below them, finally broken as Julian smiled and whispered, "Besides, if we don't, then at least we get to fight an army of Arnold Schwarzeneggers, right?"

She didn't know for sure what would happen if they didn't change it, but she was sure there wouldn't be Arnold Schwarzeneggers involved. And she would certainly prefer those to whatever the future had in store for her. But for now she was done with feeling like an idiot. Whatever was wrong with the scene just...slipped her mind, like a balloon suddenly losing air. She felt normal. "As long as we don't end up screwing with any timelines...I hope not." She looked up to him, a growing smile on her face. "Thanks for making me feel better every time. I'm a horrible girlfriend."

"Only most of the time," Julian smiled as she mocked hitting him in the chest. "Don't worry, Nico...I won't let anything happen to you." With that, the young couple watched the hues of orange and yellow splash against the vast Western ocean in silence.
