The X-Men away team arrives at the West Coast Annex.

Backdated to November 28.

The facility doors opened as Hank removed his hand from the scanner and he was hit with a wave of foul smelling air- probably the fumigation gases that were supposed to have been vented by the time they arrived. As the doctor moved through the doorway, he didn't bother looking behind himself as the others shuffled in behind him. Following the maze of corridors, Hank quickly found Jean in the briefing room and gave her a big smile as he set down his bags. "Doctor Grey-Summers, how are you enjoying your visit to California?"

"Not quite the circumstances I had hoped to come back for," Jean said with a smile as she sat down in her usual chair out of habit.

Her nose also curled at the smell before she smirked a little.

"Nice to see Scott hasn't completely demolished the place in my absence."

Angel sat down next to Jean but remained fairly quiet. She was still incredibly upset with Julian over being lied to and the entire situation but that didn't mean she wasn't going to help. It just meant that when everything was done and his family safe, they were going to have Words. Probably in his face.

Tabitha looked around curiously before she took a seat herself. "Aw, the boss man isn't prone to destruction unless it involves his own body, boss lady," she teased.

"Dude, you haven't been stuck in one of his hell runs for the Danger Room then. Remind me to make sure the next time we're both up in the room to run one of those. I had bruises on my bruises." Kyle was sprawled in a chair looking all too comfortable, despite the situation. California weather agreed with him - at least in that he didn't have to wear shoes anywhere. "Okay, so what's the scoop. What stupid shit has Keller done?"

Bobby quickly pulled out his own chair as he let himself fall in next to the rest of the team. "Who cares! Two vacations outside of the state in two months? As long as I don't have to deal with more fire grenades, I'm all too happy."
"Not funny, Bobby", Angelo told his friend firmly. "The kid might be a brat, but he's in trouble. That should be the priority, right?"

"Seconded, let's get started. From what I've gathered, we're working within a very tight time frame." He sighed, one of the hardest parts about working with the X-men was the lackluster nature of their briefings. Most X-men, especially the young ones, lacked the experience and military discipline that allowed solid plans to be discussed in an efficient manner.

Monet nodded from where she sat, filing her nails. To her credit, that didn't completely mask the intent look in her eyes as she listened to Hank. "I think they're right. We can hang shit on him for being an idiot later. Once we've got it all sorted out and all and he's safe."

Lex nodded, and then started passing out a series of manila envelops to the assembled X-men. He knew it wouldn't win him any points, making everyone read their individual assignments, but he couldn't help stick to what he knew. "It appears that Julian's family have been kidnapped by a former associate of his, one Gordon McPhearson. The short of it is we are here to help Julian get them back without jeopardizing their well-being. In order to do that we need to find out where McPhearson is keeping the prisoners and then break them out in a single, coordinated assault. We're going to split up into three assault teams: Beast, Meltdown, Wallflower, and M will be securing Julian's mother—the specifics on your assignment are in the files I've prepared; Pheonix will lead Lazybones, Firestar, and Skin to rescue his father. Wasp will support them from the inside, which should give them the edge. Meanwhile, Iceman will lead Angel and Wildchild to rescue his little brother. I will be their backup. We will start the mission on Jean's command as she has the most operational data at this point. I know you probably have a bunch of questions, but if you read your files everything should be laid out for you." His speech done he waved a hand towards Jean, and urged her to fill in the gaps.

"So far our knowledge is limited. From what I could gather from my brief encounter with him, McPhearson seems to only know the location of Julian's father. As soon as we're able to learn the whereabouts of the other hostages, we will commence with the rescue. As Lex mentioned, Wasp will be helping us from the inside. She is still spying on McPhearson as we speak, trying to see if she can get more information," Jean said, picking up the folder Lex had prepared.

"Once we ascertain the whereabouts of Julian's mother and brother there will be a small window to strike. I have already notified Julian to be on standby to meet Firestar, Skin, and myself in LA as soon as we get the information from Wasp, which, hopefully should be any time now. As soon as I know, you will know," she said.

"In the meantime, I want all of you to be on standby as well. We will be leaving as soon as we receive word."

Jean felt rather calm about the whole thing. She knew she should've known something was wrong with the way Julian had been acting in the first place. It was a reminder to listen to her instincts. But the past was the past, to be accepted and to move on. She had to focus on present and to help those who needed it now. Consequences later.

"Given who we are going up against and the fact that our intelligence shows that ninety percent of the Los Angeles drug trade is run by this man, and that this unsavory fellow seems to have some concept of what our humble school is capable of, even if he doesn't implicitly know about the X-Men themselves- I would advise that we keep a low profile for the time being, meaning we don't leave the annex. With that in mind, my understanding is that Lazybones is still up in Malibu keeping up appearances, correct?" Hank picked up one of the files being passed around and started to flip through it, plucking a photo of McPhearson in an orange jumpsuit from the cover and studying it.

"He is, though I'm not sure how much longer he'll be able to do it. That being said we need to be at alert status from here on out. Everyone split into your teams and get ready to move out, when Wasp contacts us with the precise locations of the hostages we will probably have less than 3 hours to get to them before Lazybones has to tip his hand. I assume I don't need to tell anyone what that means, do i?" Lex looked around at all of the younger people. He may still be a trainee, due in no small part to his powers going haywire several months back, but he had seen enough combat to know that you have to remind the young of the consequences of failure before every excursion.

Monet nodded. "If we've got three hours then I reckon we're safest planning for two. At least that way we've got a little extra if we need it."

"Yeah, yeah, we don't get there in time, people die. Dude, we know." Kyle was really uncool with being condescended to. "Can we just get to it and stop talking about it?"

Before Lex or Monet could pipe up, Hank held up a hand and began to speak in a calm, even tone, "Stay inside the annex and we will inform everyone once we know where Lazybone's family is- at which point we will get to it. If there is no further discussion, I need to check the security protocols on the main frame." Hank rose as a few others around the table did as well, "Wildchild, Hamster, if you please, I'd like you at the switchboard for when Julian calls- if you need to know where it is, ask Pheonix."
