Dori and Artie, iceskating (Backdated)
Dec. 27th, 2011 04:04 pmArtie clomped off the ice, arms waving madly to keep his balance now he wasn't skating and lined up at counter in front of the cafes near the ice rink. He waved to get the staff's attention and held up a carefully written note saying "Hello! Can I please have one large hot chocolate and one medium one and extra marshmallows on both please?" He gave a polite, charming smile and nodded to the waitress' pronouncement that this would $8.75 and paid, clomping back to a bench and sat down, carefully holding his cargo. Putting them down, he waved to Dori and carefully signed "Dude. You owe me $4.75".
Dori skated over with ease. Even if she had never done this before, her tail made any task involving balance totally easy. It was easy to read Artie's signs now, after how long they had been hanging out together, "What? That's like totally robbery!"
"I know but seriously, I needed this. I'd have been like, dead or something." He held up an image of himself skating, turning blue and falling over dead on the ice.
"Nah, you aren't dead," Dori said, giggling at the image. She couldn't help it, it was a funny image, "It is pretty cold."
Artie glared and flashed up an image of himself basking in the sun on a rock, tongue flicking in and out to taste the air, and superimposed a green tick over it, followed by one of himself in a snow suit, skin frozen blue and then flicked a red cross over it.
Doreen giggled, "It's not THAT bad," she said, "Sure, it's cold, but it's not going to kill you."
"That's what she said." He twisted slightly in his seat and glared at the kids who'd been staring at the two of them and then, giving it a moments' thought, flashed up image of a zombie, lifesized and in their faces. The startled screams were totally worth it.
Dori giggled again, she couldn't help it, "Artie, that's mean!"
"So? They deserved it." A couple of the boys had gone from startled to annoyed. Artie had finished his drink and eyed Dori. "Maybe we should go hide out on the ice now?"
"Maybe," Doreen said, "But if they try to come over here, we can take them," she said playfully. But honestly.
"You think?"
"Sometimes," Doreen said, "But trust me. I'm like totally so much stronger than I look. I can kick ass. Like in Kick Ass. Only without the mobsters."
Artie grinned and flashed up a picture of Doreen in Kick Ass' ugly wetsuit costume, tail poking out the back and nodded sagely before pointing to the ice and showing them skating again.
Dori punched him in the arm. Not hard, a friendly 'you jerk' sort of punch, "I hate you sometimes," she said, "Besides, I'd look waaaaay cooler than that."
Artie had never been able to raise just a single eyebrow. He'd learned (after hours in front of a mirror) to fake it, masking off his real right eyebrow with a projection and layering a new one over the top. It looked real. He added a green O RLY? before punching Doreen back.
"YA RLY," Doreen returned, "Let's get back on the ice before I totally have to prove it."
Artie nodded and clomped back onto the ice before taking off in a slightly wobbly way.
