Amara & Wade | Tuesday Afternoon
Feb. 8th, 2011 12:33 pmAmara walks inside and finds Wade fiddling with the common room DVR.
If there was one thing that would always manage to annoy Amara, it was snow. It didn't matter that she couldn't feel the cold. Or that by the time snow reached her skin, it melted instantly. That was part of the problem. You try walking through snow that instantly melted as you put your foot down, leaving large footprints in the snow and puddles everywhere. She'd given up on trying to keep herself dry, the cuffs of the jeans she was wearing sopping wet as she stomped inside and she immediately began to strip off the coat and hat she'd been wearing to keep at least part of her dry. Underneath she wore little more than a light top, her own high body temperature keeping her from feeling the cold that came along with the snow.
"Will it ever not snow?!" She grumbled quite loudly, not realizing she wasn't entirely alone.
"I've heard it stops somewhere around May," Wade commented, looking up from the DVR he was fiddling with when he heard the question. Then a smile slid into place and he raised his eyebrows. "Or you could try somewhere south of the border. I think they only get rain."
Amara's head snapped at the voice, immediately startled. "I'm sorry," she said automatically. "I didn't mean to interrupt." Whatever he was doing. She smiled a little at his second comment.
"I am from... well, I was raised in Brazil. It certainly does not snow there." She most missed home during winter. And not just because it was summer at that point in the year there.
"No problem, I'm just trying to figure out how to set this thing to record The Golden Girls and Maude," Wade said, sitting back on his heels. "You have any idea how to work it? I know I can program it and I know there's a way to access the stuff it's already saved, I just... can't quite figure both of those things out for this version. Also, I like Brazil. They get snow in Peru, though. In the mountains."
"I'm afraid I'm the wrong person to ask, I'm hopeless with technology. When is your show on? You should be able to find someone to help if it doesn't start soon." No, Amara has no idea what he's talking about, when it comes to tv shows. She blinked a moment at the switch back, and then smiled. "I like it there as well. And not just because the weather is better." Hot weather agreed with Amara - mostly because she couldn't feel the heat.
"It's not a specific time," Wade said, frowning at the little machine that seemed bent on foiling his every attempt at appreciating the beauty and talent of Bea Arthur. "I want to set it so it'll record every episode that airs... whenever they all air. All the time. Multiple channels. Day or night... rain or shine."
"... it plays that often?" Amara blinked a couple of times. "Why don't you wait until it's available on DVD?" Surely that is the sensible option here.
Wade paused for a moment, blinked, and then put the DVR down so he could stand up and walk over to the woman. She was several inches shorter than him, so he had to bend down a little give her a kiss on the cheek. "You are officially my favorite person ever, alright? Anybody gives you any trouble, let me know." She was hot - and he meant that in a literal sort of way. Odd. "Why has no one ever suggested DVDs to me before? Why have I never thought of DVDs myself?"
"... Thank you?" Amara blinked at the kiss, looking up at Wade with a slightly perplexed look on her face. "Most people tend not to want to wait for the DVDs. I just don't usually have the time to sit down in front of the tv every week to watch what I want to watch. And the recorder makes no sense to me.
"Golden Girls has been out for ages. They have to have that on DVD already. I don't know about Maude - Maude was on before Golden Girls... they should have that on DVD, too. If they don't, I'm writing a letter. To a lot of different people." Wade gave Amara a brilliant smile. "Do you marathon shows? If you can't sit and watch them once a week, to you get the DVDs and then just watch them all? When I get the Golden Girls, do you want to marathon them with me? There are seven seasons and they are all amazing."
That was a lot of words. And fairly quickly. "Oh! I'm sorry, I've never heard of the Golden Girls. Or Maude." It was two shows! Whups. "I don't usually have time to marathon things, but I do sometimes make sure I have nothing planned for a Sunday. So I could perhaps watch some with you then."
"Favorite. Person. Ever." Wade felt the need to reiterate that. "I'll have popcorn and cookies and do you like soft drinks? I'm not really a fan of them, most of the time, but other people don't seem to like Gatorade as much as I do. I can definitely supply soft drinks for you. Or whatever beverage you might like - mojitos?"
"Oh, thank you." Amara honestly didn't know how to react to that, but being polite is nice, right? She wasn't entirely used to people with Wade's... enthusiasm, and now he was offering to feed her on top of it. Wait, wasn't that usually her role? "I don't usually drink soft drink - it's juice or coffee for me. Or water. But really, you don't have to do that. Though I wouldn't say no to popcorn." There were rules about watching things and popcorn, weren't there?
"Don't worry about it. I'll get you juice. Juice is awesome. And popcorn. And cookies, mostly because I found these ones with mini peanut butter cups in them and they're delicious," Wade said, nodding sagely. "So, I'll buy the DVDs and let you know when they get here."
"Alright," she replied, a little bemused by the whole thing. "I'm Amara, by the way. So you know who to contact when they're here." She extended a hand out for him to shake.
Reaching out to return the handshake, Wade replied with, "Wade Wilson. It's really nice to meet you, Amara."
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Wade." There was a warm, sincere smile to go along with her words. "... you are new around here, aren't you? I haven't just missed running into you over the past weeks or something."
"Got here this past weekend, actually," Wade said, nodding. "I've mostly been down in the gym, but I needed my Bea Arthur fix."
"Of course." Amara wasn't entirely sure who he was talking about, but presumably it was someone on the shows he was talking about it. "Perhaps I'll see you in the gym sometime, with the weather the way it is I tend to run in there rather than outside."
"That was pretty much my thought process, yeah," Wade said, nodding. "So I'm sure we'll meet up at some point."
