Yvette and Laurie practice with their powers in the Danger room and Yvette has a bit of a breakthrough.

The Danger Room was set up to look like what could best be described as a rumpus room, bean bags scattered about on a simulated carpeted floor and comfy chairs and couches scattered about the room, a bookcase with simulated hardbacks lined along one wall. Laurie sat cross-legged in the middle of the room, a circular rug laid out beneath her as she breathed deeply, the slight violet colour of her skin a testament to her power usage.

"How do you feel?" she asked her companion, keeping her eyes closed in order to maintain the level of meditation she'd achieved.

Across from her, in a mimicking pose, Yvette breathed deeply and slowly. Laurie's pheromones were giving her a level of relaxation she rarely could achieve by herself. "fuzzy," she replied in a sleepy drawl. She slowly opened her eyes and held out her hand in front of her. The skin was a lightish red, her fingers still long, but blunted. Picking up a lock of hair from her shoulder, she examined it: individual strands like fine wire lay across her palm. "very fuzzy," she amended.

"Let me know when you're ready and I'll let it go," Laurie replied, reaching for the remote control. One of the benefits of practicing in the Danger room meant such things as air vents that could draw away her powers quicker then they could dissipate on their own.

"Give me a moment," her teammate replied, closing her own eyes again. "I want to make sure I am holding it."

"Of course," Laurie said, breathing deeply and letting it out in a long slow exhale as she relaxed into her powers, releasing the iron control she kept on them while she was awake. She was relaxed and at peace enough that she didn't even have to concentrate on calmness to give Yvette what she needed, it was still one of the easiest ways to use her own power, just allowing it to do what it wanted to do.

Breathing deeply, Yvette focused on how she was feeling, the deep relaxation that permeated every part of her. Once she was deep enough into the feeling, she murmured to Laurie: "Okay, now."

"Done," Laurie replied, hitting the button that would start the fan while also clamping down on her own powers, the slight violet colour remained but it would only effect someone directly if they were touching her. She would need to shower in order to completely make herself safe again, but that was a concern for later, right now she was more interested in how Yvette was doing. "How do you feel now?"

"I feel relaxed," came the reply, as Yvette kept her eyes closed. "How do I look?"

"Well, you've still got red hair, but it looks different though," Laurie replied, crawling closer to Yvette and reaching out her hand to touch the other girl's hair, her fingers slipped easily through the springy mass. "It's individual strands, that's what's different."

Yvette's normal reaction to the movement and touch would be to tense up -and thus injure the person without meaning to. However, with her body artificially relaxed by Laurie's hormones, her only reaction was to flinch a little. "Please, be careful?" she almost pleaded. "It is harder if I have to worry."

"Of course, Hje," Laurie replied, moving back out of range. One day she hoped her friend would have enough control to not flinch from a random touch, but today wasn't that day and she didn't want to ruin the exercise. "Do you feel like you can hold it?"

"I... I think so? Miss Emma has been teaching me to control my mind, so that is helping." And starting from a relaxed point actually made things easier than trying to make herself soft from her usual default. She held up her hand, examining her fingers, still extra long but blunted at the ends. "My body seems to change shape more, too. I have been noticing it doing strange things, like with the roller derby. My feet changed to fit the roller skates."

"Not strange at all," Laurie replied with a grin, settling back down in her Yoga pose. "Just means you're starting to get more unconscious control of your powers, so they're responding to what you need, not just settling at the default."

"Perhaps." Yvette couldn't keep the note of hope out of her voice - she'd been working so long on getting control and it seemed the effort might be starting to pay off. "I suppose we should see how long I can stay like this now, to make sure your pheromones are no longer in my system, yes?"

"Yep," Laurie replied, glad that her friend was feeling hopeful, Yvette had had a harder time then most with her powers and Laurie hoped this was the start of greater progress to come. "How about we go out for donuts after as well?"

"At Count Donutula's," Yvette asked hopefully. "It has been a very long time since I went there and they have the best maple sugar donuts."

"We should invite Kyle then," Laurie said with a grin as she rolled her shoulders. "He still owes me a 'I will eat this weird donut for you' bribe."

With her skin a lighter shade of red, the blush was easily visible. "What are you needing to bribe each other for this time?" Yvette asked, taking another deep breath to calm herself.

"Phone video of Kyle singing karaoke after shots with Doug,"Laurie said, the twinkle in her eyes positively wicked. "I have some from Doug's birthday party."

"You are so mean," Yvette teased. "To take advantage of the down time in such a way."

"Weeeelll, maybe," Laurie replied with a giggle, winking at Yvette. "Although if I'd been truly mean, I'd have bribed Doug to help me put it up on a secure server, this way I get to watch him make the 'This tastes bizarre' face and he gets his karaoke performance, it's a win/win."

"I am not sure Doug would do such a thing," Yvette said. "Those people at the Snow Valley Centre, they are... what is the word? Paranoid, yes? About the security?"

"Probably not," Laurie agreed, pondering her friend for a moment before she made a decision. "Come on, we'll go get Kyle and try you out at the donut shop, that way we can test out how long you can maintain in a less controlled environment."

Yvette's hair kinked slightly, shifting from the individual wire-like strands to the loose, sharp-edged curls of her normal relaxed state, while her skin darkened slightly.

"Okay," she replied, sounding a little unsure, although it was unclear whether it was the thought of testing her control or going with Kyle that was causing her lack of relaxation.

"I know it's hard," Laurie said, noticing the sharpening of Yvette's hair as she stood. "But we need to get you more used to being around things that make you nervous without it actually stopping you from having control. If it makes a difference, I think you've done pretty damn well today."

With a sigh, Yvette nodded. What was the point of practicing if she didn't push herself? "Very well," she said. "But if the donut store is too crowded, we can leave, yes?" Cutting someone up in mutant-wary Salem Center was definitely not an option.

"We can, I promise," Laurie said with a smile, offering Yvette a hand up from the ground. "But I don't think we'll need to, you're going to do fine."
