LOG: Laurie and Warren

Backdated! Warren and Laurie discuss the filing system she uses for the XFI files.

Not wanting to take over Vanessa's desk, Warren had made himself at home at the one usually used by Laurie when she was in - he'd taken care of all the filing that had built up in her absence, and responding to all of the messages from current and potential clients. And he'd done a fair amount of fussing about the office in his time as well, straightening things and checking on them, just to give him something to do. At the moment, he was rifling through the filing cabinet, looking for a file about an old case a client had called about it. He hadn't found it yet, and he couldn't figure out whether it was because his searching skills were sub par, or the filing system just defied all common sense. He personally was leaning towards the latter.

"Anything I can help with?" Laurie asked behind him, having entered the office while he was rummaging. She glanced around at the large office space, surprised in some ways to see that there wasn't a pile of work waiting for her return. She wondered who'd done the filing at the very least, it was something Bishop absolutely hated doing.

"Looking for Elizabeth Anderson's file," Warren said, glancing over to look at Laurie. "She called with a question, and I've got no idea about it or where to find the file."

"I mostly file them by what they've hired us to do, then alphabetical under that, unless they've hired us for more then one thing, then I put a copy of their file in each location and make a note on the computer that there may be need for cross-referencing," Laurie replied, heading over to the filing cabinets and pulling out one of the drawers. She flipped through files for a minute and then pulled out Elizabeth Anderson's file. "Here it is."

"Thanks." Warren flipped open the file, glancing over it to see if he could quickly work out the answer to Elizabeth's question. After a moment he glanced up, looking straight at Laurie. "I couldn't really figure out your system, so the files that piled up in your absence are in that drawer over there, in alphabetical order according to surname. I kept them separate from everything else in case you wanted to re-file them."

"I'm a little pedantic with my filing," Laurie admitted with a smile, falling back into a relaxed stance as she waited for Warren to be done with the file. "If you want, I can show you what I do?"

It was really in her best interest that someone else know her system, she wouldn't always be here and especially when her schoolwork got more intense, she would have to cut back her hours at the office. If Warren was looking for something to do while Vanessa was missing, she certainly had no objections to him taking on some of the work.

"It took me two weeks to work out the filing system in the office I worked in back west," Warren said, returning her smile. "And I never got near understanding the system my secretary used when I worked for my dad. Everyone has their own system."

"I was never really trained to be someone's 'girl Friday'," Laurie replied with a self-effacing shrug. "But Bishop and I have sort of worked out an understanding. He doesn't keep the gruesome details from me, and I don't bother him with the day to day stuff unless it's absolutely something I can't handle by myself. I try not to get too power crazy about it though, not that Bishop would let me but you know what I mean. Being an X-man and a student tend to keep me too busy elsewhere to really get too deep into what they do around here beyond the basics though."

"I don't know how you do it," Warren shook his head. "I had enough trouble keeping up with studying and being an X-Man when I was at college. Let alone everything else."

"The calendar function on my phone," Laurie replied with a grin, walking over to the small kitchenette and giving Warren an assessing look. "Cup of tea?"

"Sure," he replied with a smile. "Elizabeth can wait a little longer for her answer."
