At the BBQ, Sarah runs into Callie and an awkward conversation ensues.

Although it was the end of summer, the weather was still definitely warm enough to enjoy the mansion's outdoor pool, and Callie had taken full advantage of it. After a few splash fights, a couple races, and a cannonball contest, however, she was ready for some food and a place to sit down. Thankfully, neither of those things were in short supply. So once she pulled on a pair of shorts, and filled her plate with food, Callie settled onto a lawn chair to warm herself like a lizard and people watch

It was still pretty warm indeed, and Sarah was enjoying the weather herself. There was no swimming for her but she sat in a lawn chair for a good bit of the day, snacking and chatting with passers by and just having a good time. There were lots of people swimming and running around in swimwear which caught her eye, one of them being Callie, who just happened to sit next to her in another lawn chair. "Oh, hey there Callie, how are you?"

"Sarah, hi." A slice of tomato dropped from her burger onto her plate; Callie picked it up and inhaled it quickly. "Sorry. I'm really famished. Swimming always wipes me out. And Kyle makes awesome burgers." She smiled sheepishly and took another bite, making sure to finish chewing before she spoke again. "I'm great. Enjoying my final days of freedom. Classes start Tuesday."

"It's ok, totally, don't mind me." She smiled back, hoping she wasn't bugging the other girl or interrupting her as she ate. "They are great, totally, I had one earlier." And some hot dogs too, it was all very well done, they sure knew how to throw a shindig, that's for sure. "Ahh, yeah, that whole school thing." She waved a hand dismissively at that. "At least it pays the rent, right? I mean, kinda." Wait, what? She shook her head, trying again. "I mean, it's why we're here, at least at the school." It was a little different for university students and what was she saying?

Callie smiled and stretched back in her chair, eyes closed, legs extended, enjoying the warmth of the sun. "Mmmm. You know, I really miss this place. I didn't enjoy it as much as I should have. You can really be yourself here, no one looks at you like you're a freak because of how you look."

Sarah watched her stretch out, then quickly looked back up Callie again. "You can be, yeah, it's nice like that here." Pausing before she continued, Sarah shifted in her chair a little before speaking again. "Hey, Callie, about that night awhile back, with the... at the club. Do you remember?" If she didn't remember then it was no big deal anyway, but if she did Sarah wanted to explain what she'd meant, though she honestly still didn't know what she'd meant herself, truth be told.

"Hmmm?" Her brow furrowed in concentration, thinking back to Yvette's party. The night had been a swirl of colors and lights, but Callie managed to easily recall the conversation. A sheepish look appeared on the chloropath's face, as she bounced up in her seat to focus on the girl beside her. "Oh my gosh Sarah. We were supposed to have a movie night weren't we?" She reached out and lay a hand on Sarah's arm. "I am so sorry."

"It's ok, really, don't worry about it." Sarah smiled at Callie, not moving her arm away when the other girl's hand rested on top of it. "It probably was a bad idea anyway, I didn't mean to impose or anything." It had felt like the right thing to do at the time; hanging around with Callie felt great, she'd really liked it, though that had likely just been the side effect of the overwhelming combination of pixie dust and pheromones. Hadn't it?

Callie shook her head. "You're not imposing, silly," she reassured the young girl. "I made a promise that I would not live in a New York City bubble and not see anyone." Not that she had really done that this summer, and now that classes were starting again, her promise would probably continue to be, for the most part, unfulfilled. "The offer is on the table for whenever you want it. I know that sometimes you just need to get away."

"Ok, if you're sure I'm not, I guess." She smiled at Callie, glad to hear that much at least. It was true that with classes starting up again for them both that it'd be hard to follow through with things, but at least it wasn't because she didn't want to, from what she was saying at least. "I would love to sometime, yeah, sure, we can maybe find a weekend that'll work sometime." Depending on both of their availability and if Sarah would be able to muster the nerve to bring this up again, of course.

"Yeah, just let me know when. I'm sure we can work something out." Callie smiled and rose from her seat. "I'm going to go get a soda. You want anything?"

Sarah wasn't quite sure to say to that, so she just nodded as Callie stood up. "No thanks, I'm good, thanks." Whoops, she said thanks twice. She could probably use something cool to drink, she felt a little warm now, but she'd go and get it herself rather than open her mouth and sound foolish again. Once Callie left perhaps she'd do just that, or maybe go and find Yvette and talk to her about how things were so confusing lately.
