Put in logs because of format and continuity. Falls in the middle of this post, while Amanda's unconscious.

Marie leaned on the wall, watching Madelyn work in the next room and rang Scott's phone. The man had to be up by now. She checked her watch. Shit. Late for training... -Answer the damn phone, Scott,- she willed.

Scott reached for the phone. It'd better be important. "Summers."

"Hey, Sunshine," Marie said tiredly. "I'm down in purgatory with Amanda. She had an incident in town last night that may need cleanup." She wasn't in any mood to waste time on pleasantries. Being late for training wasn't something she was happy about.

"What happened and how bad is it?" Scott tucked the phone between his ear and his shoulder and went to fetch his shoes.

"A fight, she says. She was vague, but she'd been beat up, it's just hard to tell how badly because she healed herself." Marie sounded vaguely frustrated. "She's in some rough shape, Scott. I don't know what happened, but it can't have been good, and I can't check the police feeds from this stupid new phone, I can't figure it out."

"Um, Scott," Marie said cautiously. "I love you, but... Could you skip the rushing down and all? She's skittish and there's nothing anyone can do at this point. I'm here with her and... she's not okay and I think the whole authority figure thing might push her too much."

Scott sighed. "That's usually the way it goes. Okay. Tell them I'll be calling to check up on her condition? ...and I'll give Pete a ring, let him know what I know, once I talk to them."

"I'll tell Maddy. Look. I know I don't have any say in it and she's screwed up a lot, but I'm worried for her. She's skin and bones, Scott, she's so little and she's really scared and she's been going around trying to make people mad at her because she thinks she's bad for everyone and wants them to stay away." Marie's voice was laden with sadness and worry.

"Thanks, Sunshine," Marie said warmly. "You're the best. I better call Logan. I stood him up for training and he can't be too pleased about that. He'll have to find something else to do with his morning now, so I'll tell him and let him get on with that. Take care, Scott."

"Take care of you, Blossom. Call Logan." Scott hit the release on the phone and started searching the police feeds for matches to Amanda's incident.

Logan stared at the clock on the wall. Two more minutes. Two minutes and he was going to find her. She was never late. One minute, fifty seconds.

Marie thumbed the auto-dial button on her phone and pressed 1, then stood there in the hall and hoped like crazy that Logan had brought his phone with him.

Logan's zip-up sweatshirt, tossed in a heap with his shoes, near the door, began to ring. He looked at the clock again, then walked over and grabbed the phone. "Yeah?"

"Sorry I'm late," she said quietly. "Something came up."

"Marie. Everything okay?" She didn't sound like everything was okay. And she was late. Something was definitely wrong.

"Found Amanda coming in from town while I was running. She had some kind of incident last night and I'm down in medlab with her."

"She okay?"

"Physically, she's half-starved, but she healed herself from whatever they did to her. Otherwise, no, she's not okay," Marie said tiredly.

Logan nodded to himself. That was a familiar story. "Hank'n the rest, they takin' care of 'er?"

"Maddy. And I called Scott. Trying to keep it down. I'm going to see her cleaned up and tucked in and all so that's my morning there." Marie fidgetted a little, biting her lip. She /hated/ missing training.

Logan didn't bother pretending he wasn't disappointed, but he didn't push the issue either. "Wanna make up the time later t'night?"

"Soon as possible?" She tried to keep the agitation out of her voice.

"Whenever you got time. Y'know when my sessions are."

"Yeah, thanks." She straightened and composed herself to go deal with Amanda. "I love you."

"Love you, too." His thumb hovered near the release, then moved away. "...hey, Marie?"

"Yes?"

"You free for lunch?"

She couldn't help the smile. "I'll make sure I am."

"Thanks." A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he hit the release on the phone and stuffed it back into the pocket his sweatshirt. He had time to practice with the staves in the weapons closet for a while. Might as well keep busy.
