LOG: Warren and Adrienne
Oct. 5th, 2011 01:15 pmBackdated. Warren and Adrienne discuss the next move in their case.
It had taken all the charm Warren and Adrienne possessed to wheedle information out of the local police about Townshend - charm, and the weight of the Worthington and Frost names, even if they were both in varying levels of disgrace. But they had the information they needed, finally.
"So the group is suspected to be behind quite a few robberies, but the only solid thing they have is on Townshend," Warren said outloud, going over what they'd found once they were back at the XFI offices. "Just his luck to get caught on camera at that liquor store."
"Callisto's gonna beat the shit out of us if she finds him and we turn him in," Adrienne lamented, headdesking the table. "What are we gonna do? Should I just go back to the mansion and pretend I know absolutely nothing about any of this?" That way if Callisto and Warren decided not to turn Townshend over to the cops, Adrienne could claim ignorance.
"Not necessarily," Warren said, his mind ticking. "I think I can swing this to make it work for everyone. I can talk to my friend at Legal Aid, see if she'd be willing to help out. If Callisto is able to find the kid, we could arrange a meeting with him, his parents, us and Jen. We can talk about his options and where to go from here - I can't imagine his parents being okay with him not facing the consequences of what he's done. But he's a minor with no prior convictions, and juvie is not a great place for mutant kids. With the support of his parents, if he turns himself in Jen can probably get him probation, even with the seriousness of the charges." He smiled a little bit. "And then we're not the ones turning him in. And neither is Callisto."
"I'm smelling a lot of 'ifs' coming off this plan," Adrienne quoted, eyebrow raised. "I think it works, in theory. If Callisto finds him. If he agrees to meet with his parents and your friend. If your friend is willing to help out. If your friend is able to keep him out of juvie. And if Callisto doesn't see your meeting with him and his parents as a breach of her code."
"Jen will help. This case will guarantee her court time, and she's been dying to get out from behind her desk. And she'll be able to keep him out of juvie." Or at least Warren hoped so. He had faith in Jen's abilities. It all rested on Townshend and his attitude, honestly.
"And I don't think Callisto will. If his parents were bigots or abusive or anything like that, it would be a different story. But they genuinely are worried about him and just want to be sure he's okay. And I can't see how that would be breaking her code." He shrugged. "Bending around it a little maybe."
"Well, how about you tell Callisto what's going on?" Adrienne suggested, still not entirely convinced. "I'll stand a safe distance away and keep my mouth shut. I don't think she likes me very much," she added with a smirk, rather rhetorically, since she'd been deliberately trying to provoke Callisto at one point.
"I will." He grinned back at Adrienne. "I'm not sure she likes me any better, but we'll see how it goes. Now we just wait and hope she finds him." Otherwise they'd be back searching the streets themselves.
