While the two are going for a swim in the pool, Korvus surprises Meggan with a question about their relationship, brought about by a question Wade asked him. From there, they try to straighten things out, and he attempts a prank.

A loud splash echoed from the pool. Silence followed before another loud splash. The person at the pool sounded repetitive and the splash didn't sound controlled, like a dive. Whoever it was continued relentlessly, a dozen or more splashes separated by only a minute of peace each.

It was still nice enough outdoors for Meggan to have that desire to go swimming without risking a chill, so she had ventured out with towels and a post-it note just in case she felt like bobbing around the bottom for a short time. She paused when she noticed the pool’s other occupant, and waited for a chance to get his attention. She put a few towels in one chair for drying off later, and watched his progress. She waited for him to return to the surface after one of those spaced out splashes, before she waved to him with a grin. She wasn’t sure if he would notice she was standing at the edge of the pool otherwise. “Hi, Korvus! Do you think there’s room for another swimmer in there? For me to join you, I mean.” Because of course there was room, it was a pool!

"I am always pleased to have your company." Korvus offered with a smile as he swam over to the edge of the pool Meggan was at. He could forgo his flipping practice to spend time with her.

Meggan immediately dove into the pool with a small splash, not needing to hear anything else. Coming back up with a grin, she brushed away the wet hair that had fallen over her face. “Thank you,” she beamed. "I like yours, too."

Meggan's bright smile reflected in Korvus' as he smiled more. "I am glad. I often worry I am not socially stimulating in the context of this culture."

“You can be very…socially stimulating. And interesting,” Meggan quickly assured him. Interesting was a better way of saying it, and didn’t accidentally sound wrong in a way she couldn’t quite define. “You’re learning about things, that’s not bad.”

"I appreciate your patience." Korvus began to swim back a little toward the deep end of the pool while still staying close enough to Meggan to hold a conversation. He anticipated her following him out. "While I am learning new things... Wade made an inquiry that I do not know how to respond to. I believe you may be of assistance."

Meggan followed close behind, just as predicted. “I can do my best to try,” she promised. She was curious now. She drifted closer to his side, but not close enough to interrupt any of his movements. “What did he ask you?” She hoped it wasn’t something embarrassing for him, but she could still try to answer even if it was.

"He asked the status of our relationship. I told him I am not familiar enough with the cultural standard to be able to say. It had been expected my parents would have made such arrangements when I was part of a political family. I characterized it as dating." Korvus stopped abruptly when he realized he was rambling. "I was not going to ask directly but I have been thinking about it and I would like to know."

Meggan wasn’t sure how to respond for a brief moment. The status? What was the status, actually, and why was she so bashful about it? She paused in her swimming to think, before nodding quickly. “Yes. Yes, you’re absolutely completely right. It’s definitely dating…I mean, if you want it to be. More than just going to the Homecoming dance once kind of dating.” If she was half right on what he was asking, that would make it her first ever second date.

Korvus nodded. "Wade said that the label 'dating' can have both casual or more steady implications. I have told him that I will tell him which. He asked after I told him I am trained in Yoga, Kalari Payat, and full body oil massage by extension. I do not know what of that inspired the conversation so if that is irrelevant, please forgive me. I just know he is oddly concerned about our interactions with each other."

“I think…I think I'd like the former. It should be casual and slow at first.” She wasn’t a dating expert by any means, but that was what sounded right. “He wants to make sure everything’s going okay, that’s all. That I’m not going to get hurt or…or upset, I think. Sort of like Kurt or Amanda would be,” she explained. And interrogating people out of brotherly type feelings went hand-in-hand with that. “I don’t know where massages fall into that,” she laughed. “What’s Kalari Pavat? Is it a kind of Yoga?”

"Kalari Payat is a martial art. The first martial art." Korvus replied, thinking for a moment. "He also reacted when I spoke of massage. I assume there is cultural context in the idea with which I am unfamiliar. Massage is used in Kalari Payat to help prevent injury."

Meggan nodded, guessing the same. “Maybe there was.” Maybe Wade’s mind had gone to someplace naughty with massage oils, something she wasn’t entirely clear on for it. That was all she could come up with. “So it’s like stretching before running in a bigger way, making sure every bit of you is loose, jiggly, and ready to go,” she concluded. She thought she understood.

"Afterward, though the same concept." Korvus nodded as he easily floated in the deep in by kicking his feet.

Meggan drifted slightly away about an inch or so, to give him more foot room, before settling again. “To keep from being sore and unable to move the next morning if it was a bigger workout than usual. Got it.” She assumed it was relaxing, in a similar way to Kata.

Korvus floated silently for a moment. He was not sure what else to say and it showed in his face as he thought, his mind running through several topics.

Meggan wanted to come to his rescue, so asked the first question that passed through her head. “Did you like your first Halloween? When you were you, and not thinking you were really Conan.” Since he probably hadn’t enjoyed that part of the experience.

"It was interesting." Korvus said with a soft laugh. "I believe I will have a more stable opinion after next year, should it not also become unconventional."

“Nothing magical went on last year on Halloween, or I would have become a character from The Princess Bride. So maybe you’ll get a non-confused one next year,” Meggan said with some hope. There was always a chance, but she just wanted him to have a good experience as himself for the next one. Jokingly, she continued, “Just in case, I’m never dressing as anything with a horn attached again.”

Korvus was silent again for another moment before speaking up. "While I can swim for a long time, perhaps a conversation would be better elsewhere? We could view a movie in the recreation room."

“Yes, I’d love that,” Meggan happily replied. It would be tougher to hold a conversation if she went diving down to the bottom unexpectedly. Even if she didn't mean to do it, there was always a chance. Before she moved back to the side of the pool, she asked, “Are there any certain movies you’re wanting to try out?” Or they could just decide on what to watch once they were there, if he didn’t have a preference.

"There are many that I have not experienced. It should not be difficult for you to find something I have not seen that is culturally significant." Korvus moved to the edge first, pushing himself easily up and out with his left hand while offering her his right.

Meggan accepted the offered hand with a grateful smile, and climbed from the pool. Something that was both a culturally significant older movie, and fun—that shouldn’t be too hard, should it? “You’re right, we’ll find something!” She leaned over to the nearest chair, and held out one of her towels. “Here. If you need it,” she offered. She didn’t know if he had extras with him, but it couldn’t hurt. .

Korvus took the towel with a smile, "Thank you." He dried his torso, as the board shorts would just keep his legs wet even if he dried them as well. "Although Halloween may have been more appropriate, it is my understanding that, as it is our first time watching a movie together, it is expected to be from the Horror genre."

Meggan considered that one as she toweled her hair dry. She wasn’t too sure of it. “I think…it can be, but it doesn’t have to be. It can be any kind of genre for a first movie. There could be adventure, like Indiana Jones.” She wasn’t really a horror fan, but if it wasn’t too scary or nasty maybe they could try it. Whatever it was, she remembered that he didn’t like pirate movies. So no pirates sailing through the seven seas.

"Perhaps I should stop looking for the answers to these queries on the internet." Korvus said with a laugh.

“Maybe? I guess it just depends on the site,” Meggan chuckled. Her mention of Indiana Jones gave her an idea, though. “Hey, you haven’t watched Raiders of the Lost Ark, have you? That might count as culturally significant. I think there’s a tiny bit of horror at the very end, but it’s not a lot, and there’s adventure.” She knew it wasn’t boring, she had seen bits and pieces on television, and it could be fun to watch together. In one viewing.

Korvus waited patiently as Meggan dried her hair at the chairs. "I only wish to try one more thing which I have read about on the internet." Quickly he stepped in behind her, wrapped his arms about her, and easily lifted her up off her feet. "A prank!" He exclaimed playfully while darting back toward the deep end of the pool. It was funny because he let her go through the effort of drying off first.

Meggan only had time for a surprised squeak of “Oh!” before landing back in the pool. While she certainly hadn’t expected that, she didn’t mind getting wet all over again. It wasn’t like it was a cold day or anything. “You’re lucky I love being in the water,” she laughed. She splashed water in Korvus’ direction, before darting back out and floating above his head. She had a mischievous look on her face, and her cupped hands dangled water above his head, just out of reach. “I hope you don’t mind a shower!” He had just enough time to get out of the way if he did.

"I shower twice daily." Korvus said almost tauntingly? It was odd phrasing but him not moving suggested that it was consent to her returning the treatment.

Meggan let loose the water in a swift splash over his head with a grin. “It’s almost like a shower, because you’re getting water dropped on you from above. Even if it’s not as much,” she explained as she landed next to him. She had realized he might not get that it was a figure of speech after she’d said it. “But that’s good! Two showers are very good, two and a bit of pool could even be better.” Or just fun. She wasn’t even afraid that he might toss her back in again.

With a soft laugh, Korvus moved back to the chairs to get their towels. He offered Meggan's to her. "Now a movie? I am sure I will be able to stay awake until the end this time."

Meggan took the towel with a look of thanks, and began to wipe off water. “Oh, yes, now the movie. We're definitely doing that next," she confirmed. Soak that water up quickly, and then get to their movie. She was ready. "If you accidentally do take a nap, I’ll wake you up the very second I realize it,” she promised him. Since it was Indiana Jones, maybe the music would keep him awake, even if it turned out to be a movie he disliked.

Oh god. I love these two together! And Korvus in general.
