Jean-Paul takes offense to an obnoxious drunk at a new club in the city (no, it's not Adrienne.)
"Aww, c'mon, why are you being this way, I know you're into me, and I know that dude's not your boyfriend."
Adrienne frowned at the pushy drunk who seemed incapable of leaving her alone, wishing she hadn't been so adamant about going to a new club uptown and had just agreed to Jean-Paul's suggestion of just going to Silver. "Are you calling me a liar?" she inquired in a hard voice.
"He's not your boyfriend," the sweaty drunk insisted, invading Adrienne's personal space at the bar, sidling between her stool and Jean-Paul's, "he's gay as a gay fucker, he's not your boyfriend, and you're into me, so just lemme buy you another drink and we'll get out of here."
"For the third time, no thank you," Adrienne said forcefully, "I'm not interested, so why don't you go hit on someone else with your charming talk about gay fuckers? Goodbye."
"You know what? Fuck you." And then the would-be suitor grabbed her by the shoulders, and her mind went completely blank.
Jean-Paul didn't deal well with intolerant assholes at the best of times and right now wasn't really one of his better moments. Particularly not when he was nearly forced off his stool and the man grabbed Adrienne. One look at her face and Jean-Paul was in motion without even thinking, moving faster than the human eye could actually see. He had the man in a sleeper hold, yanking him back and away from her, lifting off the ground just enough to keep the man's feet from touching the ground as the Quebecois hissed, "Do not touch her." His arm tightened and the only thing he could think of in that moment was that, though she was only just now awake, Vanessa would definitely help him hide the body if it became necessary.
Jean-Paul's action snapped Adrienne out of her shock and she delivered a hearty kick to the intolerant asshole's balls as he was attempting to elbow Jean-Paul in the ribs. Between the sleeper hold and the kick he passed out in about four seconds, before anyone even had a chance to pull Jean-Paul off of him. "I think it's time to go," Adrienne muttered to Jean-Paul, knowing they were about to be kicked out anyway.
"Oui," he said, voice clipped as he tossed a hundred dollar bill on the counter for the bartender's trouble, then offered his hand to Adrienne so they could leave without getting separated. If anyone tried to do anything else, he intended to take her over the trouble and right out the door if necessary. They'd checked their jackets, but he would buy her a new one rather than come back to this place.
Luckily nobody stepped up to cause them trouble, so they were able to get their coats and leave the club unscathed. Adrienne let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding when they were out on the sidewalk. "Fun place," she muttered with a roll of her eyes. "Are you alright?"
"Mm..." Jean-Paul was noncommittal for a moment as he evaluated himself. His side ached, but there was no real damage done. Mostly, he had a great deal of adrenalin in his system. "Oui." Looking over at Adrienne, he let his concern color his voice as he asked, "And you?"
Adrienne nodded, swallowing hard. "Yeah. Stunned me for a second but I'm over it." She would have relished the chance to put some of her self-defense skills into practice, but having Jean-Paul take care of the situation for her had been much appreciated. "Thank you. I could go all 'girl power, independent women, didn't need your help' on you, but I'm also kinda pleased to have someone with me who would do something like that for me. So thanks. And I'm sorry I didn't listen to you about going to Silver," she added with a wry grin.
Jean-Paul's half-smile was wholly rueful as he shrugged, rubbing his ribs for a moment before shaking his head. "We could try Zeitgeist next time. They will call us passers, I think, but at least they might not be so likely to assault you." Of course, he'd had a good bit of assault and battery on his own record for the evening, so maybe calling it a night would be for the best. "Whatever you would like, mon ami."
"Lady's choice? I like it," Adrienne grinned, much steadier now. "Next time. I think I'm done with clubs for the night though. Want to hit up Baked?"
"Oui," Jean-Paul nodded, offering his arm to her as they walked down the street. "Clubs, they are not my favorite thing, anyway. Zeitgeist, if Baked does not work so well."
"Isn't Zeitgeist a club?" the psychometrist asked curiously.
"More like... a bar," Jean-Paul said. It was fully of shadowy corners and equally shadowy booths, but the drinks were good and the bartenders were generally friendly. "Mutant owned and run."
Adrienne pouted. "Do they have Hellabuns there?"
"I do not know what a Hellabun is, but I'm sure we could ask?"
"Oh no. No no no." Adrienne shook her head and grabbed Jean-Paul gently by the arm. "If you don't know what a Hellabun is, we're going to Baked so you can experience one. It's only fair I buy one for my conquering hero who defended what little honour I have," she grinned.
"This one of the things Jake likes, is it not?" He was fairly certain he'd seen the younger man eat something that looked vaguely like a bun a great many times. "We can go there, oui, if they are still open." It wasn't actually all that late - it was just that things at the club had gone southward early.
"They're open all night," Adrienne scoffed. "It's a stoner bakery, Jean-Paul. C'mon, should we get a cab?"
"I keep forgetting the 'stoner' part," Jean-Paul said, laughing a little. "And no, you know I do not like to be in cars. I will fly us, if you like. It is not so long a trip."
"Duuuuude, stoners are groovy," Adrienne said in an awful stoner voice. "Yes, let's fly. I love flying. Almost as much as I love watching you put assholes in head locks."
Jean-Paul grinned - he couldn't really help it. "Well, it is helpful, I think, to move faster than they can, but it is satisfying when they go limp and I can drop them. Do you want to stand on my feet or ride on my back?"
"I'll stand on your feet, thanks. Might as well enjoy the feeling of a man's arms around me when I can, even though he's got no interest in me," she smirked.
Putting a hand solemnly over his heart, Jean-Paul looked at Adrienne gravely and said, "If I could, I would. Alas, I cannot. And so it is friends only that we shall remain henceforth." He paused, then laughed quietly, unable to suppress it. "I was going to quote Shakespeare at you, but I could not remember something quickly enough. Come - we will fly. I will show you the lights over the city at night - they are beautiful."
"You do realize that you could have quoted anything at me and said it was Shakespeare and I wouldn't have known the difference, right?" Adrienne asked him, quirking an eyebrow and sharing in his laugh. "Alright, show me these lights, then. I've done a hell of a lot of things in this city, but flying over it at night is something I still need to cross off my list."
Turning to face her, Jean-Paul quirked an eyebrow. "Step on my feet and hold on, mon ami."
"Aww, c'mon, why are you being this way, I know you're into me, and I know that dude's not your boyfriend."
