Backdated:Maddie tries to sneak some ice cream without getting caught, but Lorna sees her and they chat a bit before Maddie goes back to her dorm
Crap. She had been spotted. And by an adult no less. Probably the new teacher. Ugh. That meant she had to be polite and talk. "Uh, no thanks," Maddie looked down at her bowl of ice cream. "I should probably just take it back to my room."

"Well, I'll save some for you if you change your mind. Though your company would be missed." Lorna said, still looking at the young girl. "I am Lorna, by the way." She wasn't trying to keep the girl from leaving, but trying to get to know the student. "If you need anything food related, you can always come and see me. Or if you want someone to talk too."

Maddie spooned ice cream into her mouth with a shrug, studying the woman closely. The whole thing with adults trying to be all "I'm here if you need to talk" was so cliche. Lorna looked like she was at least 25, she couldn't understand how hard it was to be a teenager. But the food thing was good to know, especially since her roommate had recently turned into the Eating World Champion of the World. And maybe Lorna could help her figure out how to dye her hair if Maddie ever decided to make her parents flip out.

"How'd you get your hair to be so green? Doesn't that take like forever to dye?"

Lorna looked down at the green hair that came down her shoulders, "I was born with it. It took forever to dye it brown...when I wanted to fit in and try to be normal when I was your age." She was asked that question a lot when growing up, but since coming to the school she just let it grow out. "But if you do need dyeing tips, I can help you out there."

Wait. Born with it. Did that mean... "Wait. So, your hair is part of your mutation? Ugh. First the girl-cat with lavender hair and now green hair and the people with wings and claws and tails and all I have is this stupid psi-blocking headgear thing." Maddie pouted. "This is so unfair. I don't even get a cool mutation. And my mom would kill me if I came home with dyed hair. A mutation is one thing, hair dye is another."

Lorna smiled a bit. "Hey, when I was your age, I would gladly trade in my green hair for a headgear." Kids don't know how good they have it, sometimes. But she could understand what they were going through - after all she was a teenager once. "Besides, I don't think you'll wear that thing forever. I don't even think it looks stupid or silly and I am pretty sure the rest of the school would agree. If you want to see silly hats, I'll take you to the hat shop in the city. In the meantime, just hold your head high and turn a bad situation into a good one."

Maddie's gaze altered between the bowl of quickly melting ice cream and the woman before her. "Can't I just stay in my room and eat loads of ice cream with my roommate? And watch really bad movies? Wait," she scrunched up her nose. "That's what you do when you have a breakup, right? What's for manifestation? Haller and Doc Grey said something about cake."

"What is your favorite flavor for cake?" She smiled, "I can make you one for tomorrow and bring it to you."

"No no no no no," the redhead shook her head. "Oh gosh you totally don't have to make me a cake. I mean I like cake and all, but it's totally not necessary."

"Well I know I don't have too but I want too. Having your powers manifest is a big thing and should be celebrated." Nodding her head.

Okay. Maybe this whole thing wasn't as bad as Maddie originally thought. Cause, come on, free cake. "Red velvet," she declared excitedly. "Cooked icing. And red shredded coconut on the side. But you know," she tried to sound nonchalant. "I'm sure anything you want to bake would be delicious. I'm not picky."

"Red velvet with cooked icing, and red shredded coconut...I think that will be simple enough." Lorna couldn't help but smile. "And thank you for the compliment. I like to pride myself in my cooking. And since we are kind of on the subject of food...if you want, maybe come by when you are up for it and help me make the menu for the week. Would love the hear the input of the younger generation. Only if you want too."

"Wow. Thanks. Yeah," the young girl nodded. "And of course. But I'm going to go back to my room and eat my ice cream. You didn't see me here, if anyone asks. Please."

Lorna nodded and tilted her head to the side. "I didn't see anyone. I don't know what you are talking about." She winked at Maddie.

"Thank you," mouthed Maddie, her eyes flickering around to make sure that no one would see her retreat. Then, satisfied that the coast was clear, the teen scampered away for the sanctuary of her room.

Okay. Maybe the green haired lady would be not bad after all. You know, for an adult.
