Garrison and Terry discover that Sooraya has disappeared and talk to the local authorities.

"I am the worst fucking guard in the history of law enforcement." Kane said, his anger spilling over. "Twice in a month someone I'm protecting disappears from a hotel room under my nose. I think you're bad luck, Irish."

"Sure. Blame the rookie," Terry retorted, taking cover behind the label even if it didn't exactly apply to her. She was still examining the hotel room for clues as to how the disappearance was accomplished.

"It is traditional." Kane prowled the room. "Where the hell are the Attilan cops? We called them fifteen minutes ago."

Just that moment a tall, dark haired man was coming down the hall with quick steps. "Agent Kane? Agent Cassidy? I am Detective Caspers. My apologies for being late. What is the situation exactly so far?" She asked while quickly flipping open her badge.

"The situation, detective, is that I have a missing student. She also happens to be a witness in a current trial." Kane tried to rein his temper back, knowing full well that the officer was not at fault. "The room wasn't forced, and there's no sign of a struggle. Can you get us access to the hotel's security footage so we can see how she left?"

“Of course. Come with me please…” As they walked, Caspers continued. “I have been in contact with Prosecutor Caplan and my captain after they mentioned you names. They have informed about the case. The student taken is Sooraya Qadir, correct?”

Kane just nodded. Sooraya's cellphone GPS wasn't pinging, so they couldn't even use that to track her.

Terry fell into step behind them. "We will also need an APB put out on her. They can't have gotten too far."

"Hopefully…" Garrison muttered, mostly to himself as they took the elevator down to the lobby, and the security desk.

“I will get someone on that APB immediately.” Detective Caspers flipped open her phone and quickly started speaking in Portuguese. After a few moments of heated discussion, she flipped her phone closed and turned towards the other people. “They will put out the APB. But I am afraid I have some bad news. A student from the Amaquelin and Boltagon School for Abilities Enhancement here has gone missing. Her name is Leyu Yoshida. I understand she might have some connection to this case?”

Terry slowed down and had to almost skip a step to regain her pace with the others. "Shit," she hissed, then answered, "She was a friend of Sooraya's."

"Yeah, it's not a coincidence." This was going from bad to worse rapidly. Once they reached the security desk, the Detective's badge was enough, and they were quickly scanning through hours of tape on the lobby and elevators, looking for Sooraya. After ten minutes, Kane punched pause on a screen. "There. That's her in the shop."

Caspers leaned closer and examined the other shoppers. "No sign of anyone wishing to confront her or even keeping an eye on her. Let's see what happens later." They continued to watch as she left the shop and then switched to another tape that showed her walking through the lobby, before being confronted by a dark haired man. Caspers paused the image. "That could be him. She looks startled and then extremely tense."

Kane peered at the image. He'd seen it before. "Terry, that look like the guy from Sooraya's file to you?"

"Could be," Terry mused, studying the footage. She reached out and tapped the rewind button for a few frames, then played it again at half-speed. "I believe so. Look at how he moves... It looks like he is showing her something."  She let the tape run forward, and watched Sooraya walk off screen with the man. "Do we have cameras outside?"

“There should be.” Caspers stood up and quickly ran her finger down several tapes. “Here it is.” She popped the tape in another player and hit play. It took a few moments, but suddenly there were Sooraya and the man with her. The detective frowned as the man put something on Sooraya’s neck. “What is he doing there?”

"It's too small to be any kind of suppression system that I've ever seen." Kane chewed the edge of his thumbnail as he watched the video. "A symbol or something?" His eyes flicked to Terry.

"Maybe it's a necklace," but even Terry sounded doubtful. "She's not struggling, whatever it is. But if she went willingly, she would have let someone know. Do we have anything more on him?" she asked, nodding at the screen.

"Some, but not very much." The detective pulled out file and handed it to the redheaded agent. "It has some basics about Sayyid ibn Aziz his background and his followers. There might be more, but nothing I was authorized to access. My captain is currently searching to recent surveillance of his followers, hoping to trace his movements."

"We should be authorized," Terry said, glancing at Kane to confirm or deny the assumption as she took the file and flipped through it.

"You maybe. I've only got what powers the Attilan police give me. Are they part of INTERPOL's umbrella?"

Caspers left the Americans to their discussion as her phone rang again. After a short an urgent discussion, she addressed Kane and Terry. "I am afraid I have some more bad news. The transport that was taking Achmed to the courthouse has been attacked and he has been 'liberated..."

Terry turned to look at the woman, her face a mask of stunned disbelief. "You have to be shitting me..." she said, pulling out a chair to sit down heavily in it. "Liberated?" She looked to Kane and said grimly, "Still blaming me for this fiasco?" before she looked to Caspers and asked bluntly, "Do you have the capacity to be dealing with this?"

"This used to happen a lot less before you came back, so yes. What did you do, hunt black cats for sport or something?"

"No, not with the manpower we have currently available. To gather up a force that is capable of dealing with that number of mutants will take several hours... However, my captain said he had received word from the school that you might be able to do something?" Caspers said the last with a confused tone in her voice.

"And there it is." Kane sighed. "Detective, we're going to need police support in keeping people clear once we catch up with him. We've got... resources to handle it, but not if there's a crowd of people next door."

"That we can do..." Caspers said slowly. "But... I am not sure..." she fell silent for a bit then straightened up. "I'll see to that. Please let us know if we can do anything else to help."

Terry nodded ruefully at Kane's sigh and looked back at Caspers. "Just keep people clear," she echoed, then added with a small pleading note, "and make sure you have a place to keep him once we've got him?"

"For more than a week this time?"
