Sam takes Kurt out for brunch to see how his suitemate is doing, and the two end up discussing more than just Kurt's dating situation.

After the huge argument and subsequent break up his roommate went through, Sam was determined to check in on Kurt and see how he was doing, maybe hang out or go and do something if he was up for it. For all that they fought a lot, especially lately, he knew it must have been hard for his friend to go through something like that. He knocked on the door to Kurt's room in the suite to see if he was free. "Hey Kurt, you around?"

The door swung open and Kurt greeted him with a smile and a nod. "Good morning, Sam. I am indeed free."

Sam returned the smile, glad that his suitemate was indeed home. "Mornin'. That's good, just wanted to see if you wanted to hang out, maybe go grab a bite to eat or something."

"Breakfast would be good", he agreed. "And we have not had roommate time in too long, I think."

"We haven't, it's true. And I've been craving pancakes for a long time. IHOP? It's on me." He'd even drive them there because now the idea of pancakes were burned into his brain.

"Pancakes will be fine", Kurt said with a grin. "Though unless you want sulphur with it, you will be taking us there."

He'd been already reaching for the keys to his truck in his pocket, hoping Kurt would be in agreement. Sam held them aloft and shook them a little. "Not a problem, good sir, I'm on it."

Sam couldn't remember the last time he was happy to see pancakes - or for that matter any kind of food - brought before him than when his order arrived. He had barely managed a polite thank you to their server before digging in wholeheartedly. After a couple of minutes and forkfuls had passed he was able to slow down long enough to talk again, nodding over at Kurt. "Gosh, this is delicious. How's yours?"

Kurt's were covered with several toppings including sausage, egg and cheese, and he nodded emphatically before swallowing his own mouthful. "More than good. I should come here more often."

"Definitely, we should make this a weekly tradition or something." He would be more than ok with that. Few things were better than enjoying a good meal with a good friend, especially getting the chance to talk. Which reminded Sam, he wasn't just there for the pancakes, even if his stomach had taken over there for awhile. "So, how're you doin', man? Sorry to hear about you and Monet."

Kurt snorted. "It seems to me Monet and I were hard to miss, this last time. It had been coming for a while, really."

"Yeah, it was kinda hard to miss alright." Sam had overheard their arguments before but the last one had been especially memorable. "Sometimes that's just how it goes I guess, yeah." He could somewhat relate to that.

"It is even something of a relief now", Kurt added with another forkful of food. "Things had been very strained between the fights."

Sam nodded, taking a sip of his coffee as he listened to his friend speak. "Mmm, yeah, when things go bad it's usually for the best to end them, before they get worse." There was no sense in trying to keep things going if they were that strained and not getting any better. "Well, sorry you had to go through it, buddy, but it's good to hear you're already feeling some relief." It was a good sign that the break up had been for the best, really.

"Thank you." He tilted his head. "And how have you been? I did notice you took Tabitha out..."

"I've been ok, I guess, same old same old." Sam shrugged, digging back into the last remaining bit of his pancakes. "Oh, yeah, that was nothin', just hanging out, you know." Tabitha was awesome, of course, and he liked hanging out with her, but that was all it was, hanging out, or so he assumed.

Kurt gave him an amused look. "Are you sure that is what she thinks? Perhaps you should check."

Stopping with his fork raised halfway from the plate to his mouth, Sam raised his eyebrows at Kurt. "Wait, what?" His hand stayed there, the syrupy pancake on it sliding off back onto the plate. "I... I think that's what she thinks, anyway." Maybe he should check then. He thought back on their previous outings, trying to remember something he might've missed. "You really think so, huh?"

"She has not said anything to me", he said with a shrug. "But I think it would be worth making sure there are no misunderstandings, yes? Before things can become awkward."

It was just possible he was matchmaking. A tiny bit.

"Well, yeah, I wouldn't want things to get awkward." Awkward was bad and he'd had quite enough of that to do him for a while, thank you very much. "Well then. The next time I see her, maybe I will, then." Food for thought at least. Speaking of which, he scooped up the last bit of pancake again, chewing it thoughtfully as he pondered what Kurt had said.

"She is a very nice girl", Kurt observed innocently over his cup of coffee.

"That she is, yeah." Kurt was making a lot of sense. Wiping his mouth with his napkin, Sam grinned at his suitemate. "Wait, how'd we get from talking about you to me again?"

"Steering a conversation is an art", he said unashamedly. "And one I am quite good at. I prefer talking about other people."

"You really are, sir." Sam chuckled, finishing off his cup of coffee before placing the cup back down on the table. "Now that was a fantastic meal. And fantastic company, of course."

"Well, thank you." Kurt grinned and ate the last bite of his pancakes. "I would have to agree with both."

"Of course, any time. Next week, even, let's try and make it a habit." He left a tip on the table and got ready to stand up. "You good to go, buddy?"

"I would like that." He stood in turn, digging out a note to cover his own meal. "I always mean to be more social."

"Alright then, it's a date." Sam grinned, getting out of his booth. "Me too, I think, so here's to doing just that from here on out."
