Log: Lorna and Scott (Backdated)
Mar. 22nd, 2012 10:39 amLorna ambushes Scott outside the garage with a request
Closing her eyes as she sat in the middle of the drive way -purposely- in the direct line of Scott's car. She had been looking for him, but why look for him when she knew that he would be going to his car sooner or later. Lorna had hoped for sooner rather than latter. She had been meditating for a good 30 minutes while she waited, it was surprising quite and peaceful right there -being a drive way and all. Opening one eye she heard the garage door opening up behind her. Finally She continued to sit there and just waited a bit longer.
Scott happily slipped behind the wheel of his car. He had, amazingly, found himself without any work. All the papers were graded and there was no admin work left for the X-men. He finally had a chance to just get in his car and go for a drive. Atleast that's what he thought, until he saw a familiar head of green hair in front of the garage door. "Umm Lorna, you do realize we have well a mansion for you to sit on the ground in? They have chairs and cushions too, which have got to be more comfortable than gravel."
Still in a sitting position, flew up and turned around to face Scott. "I know. But I am sitting here on purpose because I was waiting for a certain person to show up cause finding him in this huge place is like finding a needle in a hay stack." She set her feet on the ground and walked over to him. "Hello Scott. I knew you were going to show up here sooner or later." It was obvious she wanted to ask him something, otherwise she wouldn't had gone through the trouble of not really looking for him, but waiting for him.
Scott quirked an eyebrow at Lorna, "And you decided not to call or text me because?" he asked with a smile. "Modern communication, it's a wonder. You should really try to catch up with the rest of the world some time little sister," he teased. His eyes flew around the garage taking in the sheer amount of loose metal available...perhaps he should have left the top up today.
Lorna shook her head, "Not the point." She was going to change this conversation around, ignoring his little nickname for her for now. "I need a new car. I sold my last one when I went to Muir Island." She had walked towards the drivers side. "Was wondering if you would like to take me, I could use an car expert when it comes to car shopping."
"Completely the point," Scott disagreed as he watched Lorna walk around to stand by his door. "Well why didn''t you say so sooner, I'd love to take you shopping. What do you want? A van would be good for buying supplies, maybe a pickup truck. Not very practical for the day to day, perhaps a sedan or I could see you behind the wheel of a pick-up truck." he mused before a mischievous smirk spread over his face. "Perhaps a nice little scooter would be more your thing."
Lorna smiled when he said he would love to take her. She walked around the car and opened up the passenger side and got in. "A scooter really? Though they look like a lot of fun but I know I wouldn't get very far in one of those" Eyeing him wondering what else he was going to say. "I was hoping for something with a bit more room for transporting people and cargo." Lorna buckled in and leaned back, she was obviously thinking with her finger to her lips.
"Fun?" Scott shook his head sadly, "I've obviously let you go far too long without having the car talk with you." he confided. "Scooters aren't meant to be fun, they're slow and a weak imitation of a motorbike." he said with a smile as they reached the mansion gates. "Which is more important. transporting cargo or transporting people?" he asked curiously.
Lorna laughed. "The car talk with me? And have you ever owned a scooter? I am sure I can beat you on a scooter." Of course she would cheat and use her powers to make it go faster. The wonders of controlling metal, they do what you want them to do. Lorna thought about it more. She would be transporting cargo more often than people, unless she became a supervisor for when students when into Salem. "That sir is an excellent question. I would probably be using it for cargo more often than not."
"As if," Scott scoffed, "you forget who would be looking after the scooters in the garage. It would be a shame if someone were to happen to your scooter so it fell apart on the starting line." He smiled at Lorna, "Well if you want to maximize your cargo space then perhaps a van or a pickup?" he offered. "Not very pretty, or fuel efficient, but they get the job done."
Lorna gave him a mock hurt look. "Would you really do that to my little scooter? What did the scooter do to you?" She chuckled a bit. Thinking about the van or a pickup, "Wouldn't they just look overly huge when I am driving it?" Lorna did want something that was fuel efficient, especially with gas prices these days. "How about a Chevy Sonic? It has lots of room, can always put the seats down in the back and it can put people in them...or a dog."
"Existed," Scott replied with a laugh. "Well you did say you wanted to move cargo, but they're probably a little big for you. A Sonic would be good, or perhaps a Ford Fiesta. I'm sure Lilli would love any car you got. A new toy for her to climb all over. Did you want to buy it new? Or head to a secondhand dealer and see what we can find?"
Lorna couldn't help but smile but hid it by turning away. "I would love something that moved a lot of cargo. But have you seen me behind the wheel of a van or a pick up?" She thought about it. "Ford Fiesta sounds like I should be having a party. Yea Lilli would love to get her dog hair all over the place." She said. "If I buy it new than I wouldn't have to worry about it break down on me in a couple of years. But if I buy it used than I don't have to pay as much." Decisions decision, this is why she wanted Scott to go with her. He thought about things like that. "If you got the time, lets do both."
"I don't name them," Scott defended himself. "And besides, I have seen you drive, I think when you get to your destination your passengers are going to celebrate their survival," he teased. "Well we're pretty good at looking after cars at the mansion, but you are less likely to get breakdowns with a new car. Of course it's a lot cheaper to go second hand, but well who knows what's been in it." Scott never brought second hand if he could help it, he preferred new cars or restoring old classics. "For you, I've got all day." he told Lorna exulting inside. A day out of the mansion sounded like a good idea to him.
Lorna looked ahead, sighed and then looked down at her hands in her lap. "It is true. People are afraid of my driving." She didn't think she was that bad at driving, but people did seem like a rush to get out of the car with her. "I trust your car fixing skills, but after you said that my scooter will be in pieces I am not sure anymore." Looking at him with an evil smirk. She shivered. "Yea, I don't want to think about it." Leaning back in her seat and closed her eyes. "All day? So we can stop for some coffee?"
You would trust someone else to make your coffee?" Scott asked in surprise. He looked over at Lorna, "Well what we need to do is get you a nice car, then you'll be fending them off with a stick." He smiled at the green-haired woman, "Well a scooter hardly counts as a real vehicle does it. I would never let a car fall apart, maybe link your horn to your brake, but never take out all the nuts and bolts."
"The little coffee shops, not the name brand ones." Lorna said. "I am down to support the little guys." She added with a nod. "Than with that I'll need a sport car. What is that saying "a little beef in the engine"?" She probably got that saying wrong. Snorting a laugh at the thought of braking an the sound of a horn coming forth. That would scare the daylights out of her. "Okay good point. But I would like something that would last me awhile."
"Right so first stop Starbucks?" Scott asked dryly. "No car can last without basic mainanence, but I know this great mechanic who is willing to work for food." he grinned. "A sports car or perhaps a muscle car? I think a Mustang would suit you perfectly. But lets take a look at the new cars first, and if you don't find something in your price range we can always hit up the second hand dealers."
Lorna buried her head into her hand. "Scott I will have to give you a lesson on the difference in coffee." Lowering her hands and looking at him. "Oh do you? Well I am sure we can come to agreement. Food for working on my car when it is needed." Nodding "I like that idea. Mustang would be nice, then I could beat you in that little race."
"Do you think a stock mustang stands a chance against this baby?" he asked patting the dashboard in-front of him. "There is more to driving fast than horsepower...although you would have that on me," he admitted quietly. "Should I ask for a regular retainer?" he asked with a smile. "What's a good rate do you think? A steak a month?" he laughed.
"I was about to say, I thought you have seen me drive." Lorna smiled."I can do a steak a month. I still think I am getting the better bargain." Adding with a nod. "So where were you headed before you almost ran me over?"
"I don't know, cars don't really break down when I take care of them," Scott replied, "unless driver error is involved that is. I never did trust other drivers," he joked. "I was just planning on driving around, getting out of the mansion and just going. And as I recall you're the one who place yourself in front of the car."
"I don't trust other drivers either." Saying with a nod. "Just a little ride out of the town? I didn't place myself in front of your car. I played myself on the drive way so you could see me." Lorna smirked. "There is a difference." She teased. "I am glad I could give you a purpose for your little drive."
"Tomato, Tomato," Scott replied, "you placed yourself on the ground in front of my car. So you're at fault here not me," he informed her with a smile. "Well if you're buying me a good cup of coffee then that's enough purpose fora drive. I am glad you caught me though, I haven't been car shopping in ages."
"Yes, I'll get you a cup of coffee. There is one not too far from the Honda dealership." She said. "I figure you would like to go car shopping, since cars is sort of your thing. I swear you spend as much time in the garage as I do in the kitchen."
"I wish," Scott exclaimed. "Between teaching and the X-men I don't get to spend as much time down there as I would like. It's kind of like a sanctury for me, somewhere to go when I need to get away from everything and relax." He explained. "I have been spending a little more time down there recently, holidays are a good time." he commented as he parked the car outside the coffee shop.
"But everyone knows if they want to find Scott they just go to the garage. Unless you aren't there yet and you just wait for him." Lorna got out of the car and stretched her legs. "Easter is next month right? I am pretty sure my parents would love it if I came and visited them, considering I haven't actually seen them in about a year." She did a facepalm. "I think it is about that time again."
"Well...I can at least pretend like it's a sanctuary," he replied as he got out of the car. "I haven't seen my dad in," Scott paused as he thought, "well quite a while. Went up to see my grandparents around the new year though. But a year, that's quite a while." He shook his head in mock disappointment. "You talk to them don't you?" he asked holding open the door for Lorna.
"Of course I talk to them, through email and skype all the time. But seeing them on a computer and actually face to face is a little different." She walked into the coffee shop, quite pleased to see that there was no line. "I would like a large latte and whatever he wants." She made a motion to Scott. Lorna pulled out a twenty from her pocket.
"I'll have a medium cappuccino," Scott told the vendor while leaning on the counter and turning to face Lorna. "face to face is nice, but," he shrugged, "it's hard sometimes. I wish that I could see my grandparents more, getting up to Alaska is a little bit of a problem though. Airline prices nowadays," he grimaced.
Lorna gave the woman the twenty to pay for the drinks, when given the change Lorna put a dollar into the tip bucket. "It is. Airline prices are pricey. If you can the tickets a year in advance than it might not be so bad." She said and moved to the side. "Should make time to visit the grandparents...they would probably like to see you." She said, being a good friend.
Scott smiled, "Do you honestly know what you'll be doing a year from now?" he asked. "Knowing my luck Magneto will show up or I'll have to go to Indonesia just as my tickets come due." He shook his head, "It's easier just to grab some time when I can. Besides I saw them a few months ago, you on the other hand, a year is a little too long."
Lorna thought about it. "Cooking?" She then chuckled. At the mention of Magneto's name, Lorna froze for a brief second. Clearing her throat. "Just make sure the tickets can be transferred than." Her latte was done, picking it up and taking a sip. "Yea, there wasn't much I could do being half way around the world for almost a year. My mom is probably ready to come over here and visit." Shaking her head. "Ready?" She asked.
Scott missed Lorna freezing as he reached over to pick up his cup from the counter. "I can just imagine your mum coming to visit the mansion, it would be an interesting trip," he chuckled, "I'd love to see her meet Kurt. I honestly don't know what's going to happen tomorrow, let alone a year from now," he continued in a serious tone. "Just have to deal with what's infront of us today." He held open the door for Lorna with a smile, "Let's get you a new car then."
Lorna chuckled at the idea of her mom seeing Kurt. Then again, her mom dealt with Lorna with green hair a blue furry man wouldn't be any different would it? Nodding. "One day at a time." She walked out the door. "Right. Lets walk. The dealerships aren't too far."
Scott stared sadly at his car, it wasn't far to the dealerships and he guessed that a walk would be good. "Do we have to?" he asked with a smile. As they walked to the dealership he ran an expert eye over the car on display. He had to prove his worth an get Lorna the biggest discount he could.
"Yes. We have too. Walking is good for you and you can still see your car from across the street." Lorna looked around at the different cars that were on the lot, taking a sip of her latte she walked around one. "Okay lets hear your first impressions." Looking over at Scott.
"Hmm, too big. Too temperamental. Too small." he said pointing out cars with a smile. He stopped walking and slowly turned, examining all the cars surrounding them. "How about that?" he asked pointing at a car towards the back of the lot.
"Too temperamental? What does that even mean?" So confused. Lorna followed his point with her eyes and they landed on a Lime colored Ford Fiesta. "Did you pick that one cause it matches my hair?" She asked, walking over to it. The Fiesta was certainly a cute car and looking in the window it looked to have plenty of room in the back.
Scott grinned sheepishly, "Maybe, the colour suits you. But the Fiesta is a good car, it's reliable and doesn't break down. Easy to get replacement parts for too which is always a bonus." He walked over to the car, giving it a closer examination. It looked like a good little car and he thought it would treat Lorna well.
Lorna laughed and looked at the sticker in the window. "It is affordable and it has good mileages." Nodding. "You did well on picking it out with the point of your finger." She said, Lorna loved the car - the color was too close to her hair color, which she found to be amusing.
"What can I say, I have magic fingers when it comes to cars," he replied with a smile. "If you like it then lets go into the office and see what we can get off the sticker price for you." Scott rolled his shoulders and cracked his knuckles like a prizefighter before turning to face the office. He was going to enjoy going up against a salesman and getting the price knocked down.
Snorting a laugh. "Right. Is that what you call it these days?" Lorna nodded. "Right office. Lets see what you can do in a barter with a salesman." She walked towards the office and entered.
Closing her eyes as she sat in the middle of the drive way -purposely- in the direct line of Scott's car.
