Catseye takes Yvette to see "The Hunger Games" with her and later they go for burgers and gossip.
All the way home they'd been talking about the movie they'd just seen and as Catseye parked her car in the mansion garage she was a little reluctant to get out when she cut the engine. Seeing The Hunger Games had proved to be such an emotional experience that she felt like in getting out of the car she would be leaving the experience behind, moving on, already starting to forget how it made her feel. She wanted to hold on to everything for just a moment longer.
"Burgers?" she finally said to Yvette, even though it was late. It was the first non-movie-related thing she'd said since they had driven to the theatre. And maybe it was still related to the movie, since she was feeling emotionally drained and figured eating was the best way to combat that feeling.
"That is the great idea!" Yvette agreed, for much the same reasons. "The place where Kyle goes where they have the really good onion rings and don't stare at me?"
"Okee dokee," Catseye nodded, starting the car up again and heading down the drive. "I was gonna cook for you but I don't think I'm really up for cooking right now anyway. We should make people wait on us," she grinned. "Onion rings and a burger and ice cream. I definitely need ice cream. I'll have to do extra time in the Danger Room tomorrow to work it off, but I need it."
"Oh, it's much too late for you to be cooking, even if you like to do it," Yvette replied. She hadn't even thought of Catseye actually making anything for her. "And they have the new server now." She grinned, unashamedly. "He is rather cute-looking."
"Oooooooooooooooo, really?!" Catseye poked at Yvette with a clawed finger teasingly, "you liiiiiiiike him? We should get him to ask you out tonight! It will be our mission! What's his name? How old is he? Does he go to school?"
"Not for me, silly, for you!" Yvette replied, laughing and carefully swatting at the pointy finger hand. "It is the time you got back on the moose, yes?" She knew full well the expression was "get back on the horse", but she was deliberately botching it for fun.
"Me?!" The catgirl was surprised, but pleasantly so. "Okay, sure! I could get on the moose again," she grinned. "I guess it has been a while since I've had some sexy fun with someone! I hope he doesn't want to date, though." It had been a long time, but what had happened between herself and Nick had deeply scarred Catseye when it came to what dating was supposed to be. It had been so great with Nick that she held everyone she was attracted to to that same high standard in a relationship, wanting to replicate everything she'd felt with Nick. And so far, no one could hold a candle to him. So she'd stopped looking for someone to date. "How come you don't want him for you, though?" she asked curiously.
Yvette's eyes were glowing brighter, a sign of heightened emotion. "Oh, he is not really my type," she said airily. "You know me, always looking for the true love... or at least someone I can touch without them losing a body part."
Catseye hadn't caught the glowing eyes as she was keeping hers on the road. "So he's not a true love type? Excellent," she muttered, giving Yvette a grin that started off jokey, but quickly turned wry. "True love is... hurty. But I'm sure you'll have better luck at it than I did," she added quickly, not wanting to influence Yvette negatively about the subject since Catseye figured Yvette would form her own opinions based on her own experiences. "And until you find it, having someone you could touch without them losing a body part would be good," she agreed. "I'm sure we can find someone like that for you easypeasy if we look for him. I'm getting to be a pretty good tracker," she joked.
"Oh, boys are dumb, I know this after the vacation in Malibu, remember?" Yvette replied, equally wryly. Cam had been nice, but also a two-timing idiot. "And for now, I am happy to concentrate on the school and the team. Who has time for romance?"
"Exactly!" Catseye agreed, pulling into the lot of the diner. "How are your classes going, by the way? You enjoying everything?"
"Busy," Yvette replied, waiting until Catseye had pulled into a parking space before undoing her seatbelt. "I am afraid I have been something of the hermit lately because of it. So much homework to do. And you?"
"Classes aren't too busy," the catgirl shrugged. "But I'm glad I'm verysmart and remember things well or I might have sososo much- my classmates call it cramming?- to do before finals. I'm much more busy with the team. Having to exercise and keep in shape is harder for me than remembering things! It must be the cat in me... I just want to be lazy and sleep all day sometimes," she grinned.
"Life is very hard, to be a cat," Yvette replied in kind, laughing. "All that napping in the sunshine that must be done!"
Catseye giggled. "Just like a man!" She zeroed in on a booth at the diner and plopped down, surrepticiously looking around for the boy Yvette had been talking about. "You never answered my questions about this boy," she reminded her friend in a stage whisper, speaking out of the corner of her mouth. "How do I know who he is?" Already knowing what she wanted to order, she didn't bother picking up the menu. And in true Catseye fashion, she didn't wait for Yvette to reply before hurling more questions at her. "Now you've got me thinking about Malibu. Which makes me think of snorkelling. I think I want to learn how to scuba dive this summer. Do you have any summer projects you wanna do?"
Yvette was used to Catseye's barrage-like conversational style and smiled. "I will poke you under the table when I see him," she replied matter-of-factly. "Since I have the best toes for the poking, yes?" She picked up her own menu to work out what she wanted. "As for the summer, I have not really thought about it yet. It depends, I suppose, on how I do with school and whether I need to take the remedial English again." She pulled a face. "I hope not - it is so boring!"
"Remedial English? Again?" Catseye was confused. "Why?"
"I need to improve my writing for the research projects," Yvette explained with a small disgruntled huff. "I mix up the grammar sometimes." Then she nudged Catseye under the table. "The cute waiter is coming to serve us, by the way."
"Well, now that I'm around, I can check your projects before you hand them in!" Catseye offered, "I don't get to do a lot of writing in my classes so helping you with yours would make me happy!" She smoothed her hair down and gave Yvette a smirk when her friend announced the waiter was coming over. "Exxxxcellent! I have the perfect plan of attack to pounce on him!"
