Sarah puts the idea her and Meggan had talked about to Layla for her consideration, which ends up not going as she'd expected.
Relaxing with Layla had become a very regular pastime for Sarah since they'd begun dating, especially with both Layla being on the mend and March break taking place. When she wasn't working she could most often be found in the blonde girl's company, and this afternoon was one such time. They were taking a break from their movie watching, just hanging out in Layla's room, and Sarah was cuddled up beside the other girl enjoying some quiet companionship time. Until she remembered something from the other day, which made Sarah sit up and snap her fingers.
"Oh hey! I almost forgot! I have a proposition for you, lady!"
Layla blinked at the sudden movement and apparent enthusiasm. "We're too young to get married. And it's way too soon. You should save the proposition until we're, like, old. Wait...proposition, not proposal." She slouched, seeming to relax now that that had dawned on her, though it was mostly an act. "Okay, what's the proposition? This is so not gonna be good though, is it? 'Cause you're all springing into action girl and shit and that is just never good."
Playfully punching Layla on the shoulder, Sarah shook her head. "No, silly, and I always thought you'd be the one to propose." What with the amazing job she did on Valentine's Day after all, though she knew she was kidding of course. "A proposition, based on a chat with Meggan the other day, who's going out with Korvus? We were talking and the idea of maybe going on a double date came up." Which was a great idea, wasn't it? "If everyone was into it, that was, I mean I don't know if she's talked to Korvus yet or not, but it could be fun!" Especially if they drove underwater!
And cue Layla leaning back so she could most effectively stare at Sarah like she had four heads and they were all different species. "Uh, what now? Sorry, I think someone spiked my food. Maybe Lorna used the wrong kinda mushrooms in something or some shit 'cause I swear it sounded like you were totally saying how awesome a double. date. would be." And then there was more staring.
Sarah blinked at the reaction, not having expected it at all. "Um... well, I... kind of did, I guess? I mean, I've never been on one, so maybe they're not that awesome at all, but it was an idea that popped into mind." It had sounded like a good idea to her at the time, a great one even - Meggan was one of her best friends, after all, and Korvus seemed like a nice guy, so it would be fun to hang out with them she'd figured.
And more staring. "I've never been on one either but, wow, like weird and awkward much? It's like hanging out with a group of people, except people are all paired off and potentially mushy and stuff and that's just weird. And awkward. And did I mention awkward? Because awkward is totally not getting the kinda like top billing it deserves here." The blond held out her hand to Sarah, "Hi, I'm Layla and I totally don't set myself up for people saying how cute I am with my girlfriend or like commenting on my relationship or like...watching it, because that's weird. Have we met?"
The entire public component of such an outing, which seemed completely obvious and recognizable now that Layla was talking about it, had somehow eluded Sarah's mind when she'd been discussing the idea over with Meggan. She opened her mouth to counter that but it was kind of hard to do because what the other girl was saying was right. "I... I guess I didn't think about that." Being openly mushy or exchanging public displays of affection wasn't the goal but it could most definitely turn awkward fast, which made sense now that she thought about it. In her mind it had just been combining the best of both worlds - hanging out with her girlfriend and with one of her best friends together - but it wasn't that simple at all. Especially if they would be in public, out and about, which she hadn't contemplated or taken into account either. "No, you're right, that was kinda dumb of me. I'm sorry, Layla."
"It wasn't dumb and you don't hafta be sorry," Layla answered pretty quickly. "It's just, like, okay, how do I say this? I'm not like trying to stuff you in a closet and hide you. Or us. Or whatever. Right? 'Cause, like, I don't care if people know we're like...y'know, together and stuff. That's like not even an issue. And I don't care if people like see me being like stupid and, I dunno, mushy with you, 'cause, um, I kinda am a lot, right? But it's totally one thing for like someone to walk in on me kissing you or like see us out together and another thing to be like on a date with us. Because...it's a date. It's, like, not supposed to involve other people or whatever. It's like....just supposed to be us. And I'm like greedy or something, okay?" The blonde wrinkled her nose and scratched the back of her head with an expression on her face which clearly said she wasn't sure any of that made sense.
"No no, it was, and I do." Sarah shook her head. She wasn't about to rake herself over the coals over it, but she did feel sorry for not having thought it through properly. "I know you don't want to do that, Layla, neither of us do. And I like you being mushy too, it's kinda cute." Blushing a little, she grinned and reached out for the other girl's hand. "You're right, though, a date is more like... more of a private thing, kinda. Not necessarily in private all of the time, yeah, but something we do, for us." She couldn't help but chuckle a little at the greedy part. "Hey, that's more than ok, I can be kinda greedy too when it comes to you." In a good way though, or at least she hoped it was.
Grinning a little at the admission of mutual greed, Layla snaked an arm around Sarah's waist and pulled her back down so the blond could steal a kiss. Sarah was blushing, Layla was cute when she was mushy and they were both greedy...that was totally worthy of a kiss. "So that means you're not gonna pout 'til I cave then?" she asked when their lips parted, not that they got very far.
Her eyes went a little wider at the last statement. "You mean I can do that now?" Sarah quickly laughed and shook her head a little without having to pull back any further than necessary. "Nope, we're good, nice and private it is." It was very hard to argue against keeping their privacy when Layla was kissing her like that, after all, so who was she to disagree? Instead she just kissed her back and enjoyed the privacy with her girlfriend.
