Late Friday night/early Saturday morning, in Assateague Bay, off the coast of Maryland. Logan and Marie spend some quality time together, reaffirm their commitment to each other, and snuggle, while the others rest upstairs.

Logan pulled a blanket up over himself and Marie. The others had retired to their respective bedrooms upstairs and he was relieved to finally be alone with Marie. Tucking his body against hers, he rested his chin on her shoulder and nuzzled her hair and neck. "Hey," he whispered, his lips against her neck.

"Mmm?" Marie closed the regional tour guidebook she'd been reading to find things to do with the boys and put it on the bedside table, leaning back into the curve of Logan's body. It was hard to believe that little more than a day ago, she'd been fearing for his life. She closed her eyes, enjoying the warmth of his breath on her skin and the security of his arms around her.

"It's quiet here," he said unnecessarily. It amazed him, though, after the constant noise of the mansion, that there was a place in the world where he didn't have to filter out every thing from banging pots and pans to video games at all hours of the night in order to sleep. "I can hear the kids upstairs, but...it's so quiet."

She turned her head enough to kiss him on the cheek. "You need it after that trip. I think we all need it, period."

"Shit kinda hit the fan, last coupla days at the mansion, huh?" Logan pulled her tighter against him, thinking of Cain's email to Marie, the fire in the apartment building, and Betsy.

"What else is new?" Marie snuggled against him, sighing contentedly. "It's been hard, but when isn't it? God, Logan, there's so much to worry about, I've just started picking and choosing depending on whether or not I think I can make a damn difference. You come first. That simplifies a whole lot of things."

/Does she know she's sleeping with her killer?/ Logan shrugged off the thought; he'd already told her about those dreams. That Bet-Kwannon had induced them made them no less /his/. "You come first for me, too, baby."

"I know." Marie turned in the circle of his arms so that she was facing him. "Anything on your mind?" She ran her fingers through his hair, frowning a little. "You doing okay?" She had dismissed the letter from Kwannon almost as soon as she read it, at least on a personal level. She was more worried about his reaction after the fire the night before, how he was dealing with that experience.

"I'm okay." And he was, for the most part. Granted, he'd worn gloves all day and, so, had yet to touch a doorknob with his bare palm, but that could just be coincidence. He figured another day or so and he could take the gloves off without worrying about having the same reaction he'd had yesterday.

Marie took Logan's face gently between her hands and kissed his cheek softly. "That makes my world pretty damn good," she said quietly. "It's amazing how fast things get real simple some of the time."

"/You/ make my world pretty damn good." He rubbed his cheek against hers, cat-like. "Makes things real simple all the time."

She laughed at him and nibbled at his earlobe playfully. "Glad to be of service," she teased, sliding one leg over his hip to pull him close and rolling them both over so that she lay on her back, smiling up at him. "Nice to know that I'm good for you."

"Very, very good." He offered a lopsided smile, dipping his head to brush his lips over hers. His hips slid easily between her thighs and he murmured contentedly at her warmth.

"I could get used to this." She pulled the quilt and blankets up around them. The window was open a crack, letting in a swirl of cold, salty air and the sound of waves on the sand.

Logan hummed in agreement. "it's nice. I like it here. With you."

"I meant more being happy." Marie stretched a little to turn off the light over the bed, then settled her arms around his neck. "And being with you. But here... it feels like it could be ours, you know?" She pulled him down for a kiss that was slightly distracted and pensive. "But then again, maybe it's just that any place where we really get to be us feels like our place."

He chewed gently on her lower lip. "I like bein' wherever makes y'happy." He nuzzled her cheek. "But I think you're right, we're bein' us an' it makes th'place feel like ours..."

"Guess we'd better do it more often then," she murmured, nipping at him in return. "Did I mention that I love you?"

"Not'n the last five minutes," he answered, grinning.

"I'd better make it up to you, then." Marie wriggled playfully underneath him and pulled him down for another kiss.
