Sam and John find themselves fleeing several combat helicopters as they try to escape the Citadel.

The bulk of the Genoshan forces were still focussed on the Citadel, which was the only reason the X-Man and his passenger had made it as far as they had, but now helicopter gunships were beginning to disperse, making the skies a dangerous place to be. Time to take a moment to regroup and plan.

The sky was far too crowded for Sam's liking, especially since it was mostly crowded with hostile forces. He'd managed to dodge and weave his way through those gunships that had taken notice of him, which thankfully had been relatively few in number, but another one ahead of them was turning to open fire.

"Hang on!" Sam blasted forward, swerving and aiming for the tail section of the helicopter. With any luck he'd dodge its fire and maybe take one of the many ships down in their bid for escape.

They were moving fast, but John chose to focus his attention on the explosions happening a little distance ahead of them. As soon as he managed to gain control of the fire, he shot a giant fireball towards one of the combat helicopters, hoping that would help aid their escape. As much as he hated leaving the rest behind, they needed to face the facts. If they chose to stay and fight, they were going to wind up dead as it was only by sheer dumb luck that neither one of them had been shot yet.

Of course that didn't mean he wouldn't try to destroy as many of the enemy aircrafts as he could. It was hard to aim well enough for a precise hit to the auto cannons and machine-guns, but John just needed to build a spherical mass of fire that was large enough to cause damage to several choppers at once.

Cut and run was rarely Sam's first choice for action either but they had been left with precious else in the way of options unfortunately. Seeing John's strategy, he tried to line them up for attacks on targets as they got near enough before dodging out of the way of any return fire, concentrating on getting them the hell out of there in one piece.

The leading chopper swerved to avoid John's first fireball, barely avoiding colliding with one of its fellows and returned fire, bullets from the mounted machine guns rattling off Sam's blast shield where he wasn't able to dodge.

"Hyper speed it the fuck up, Guthrie, or I'd rather you fucking drop me right here and right now!" It was hard enough concentrating on building an intense enough fire to cause enough damage to the helicopters; and he was making attempts to aim at their rotor blades even, but having to deal with each dodge and swerve between the enemy targets was starting to give him a real nose bleed.

"I'm going as fast as I can!" Sam dug deep and pushed harder just the same. He hoped there were many more of them that were able to get away and regroup, because things were not looking good at all for them at that moment.

Things were definitely not looking good, but John continued his attacks as they blasted their way through and he doubled his efforts when he noticed two choppers retreating and moving away from them. The main chopper slowed down its pursuit as well and just when John thought they might have a chance at escape -- it launched a wire-guided missile in their direction.

"Dammit!" Sam wasn't worried about the missile hurting them, what with his blast shield and all, but it would certainly knock them around and screw up his ability to navigate for awhile at the very least. "We're going down to dodge this sucker, hang on!" With that he veered sharply to one side and then almost straight down, earthward bound. Hopefully the missile would have a hard time adjusting to that kind of trajectory so quickly and they could get to the ground unscathed, continuing on foot.

This was definitely a lot better than paying for one of those crazy roller coaster rides. The moment they hit the ground, John picked himself up and started running, letting out a loud whoop as the missile exploded above them. Down on the ground, it felt safe somehow, but they couldn't risk stopping for a breath or anything, plus John was pumped up on adrenaline anyways.

Sam was running high on adrenaline himself, and he took off in the same direction as John, staying low to the ground and bolting for the nearest cover. The city loomed ahead and they would hopefully be able to lose themselves inside its shadows, though for the time being just losing their immediate attackers would be enough of an acceptable start.
