When the Magistrates withdraw, it seems like the mutants have won. Until the airstrike begins.
It had taken Emma some time to be in a safe enough position to be able to switch back out of diamond form, but Fred's bulk and invulnerability had proven useful. Moving nimbly behind his large form, Emma reached out to the other people she suspected would be leading pockets of resistance. ~We're under serious fire here,~ she reported out. ~Retreating from the field is going to be my team's best option. We found Yvette has well, but we couldn't break through her mutate programming. We managed to take her down, but we've got wounded people we need to get out and too many Genoshans here. Can any of you help or are we better off getting out of here?"
~I've got Matt and we're being pushed back, but slow enough that...~ Wade paused the mental rundown of his situation because it took concentration to keep three different magistrates from overwhelming and flanking him. ~People are funneling out behind me. I've got some local guys with offensive powers taking fire and two using some kind of passive earth thing to help cover the ones who're escaping. If we can locate the commander, we might be able to disrupt their progress - probably not for long, but it'll give more people a chance to get out.~
Lorna dodged a tree as she was flying up to safety above the tree line. ~We lost the line, Callie appeared whom is also under the mutate programming. Molly was hurt in the attack but she is safe from the time being. We had to pull out as Callie has an advantage over us being this is the jungle.~
~We have some injuries and power related fatigue,~ Wanda said, still keeping an eye on Jean-Phillipe to make sure he didn't run into a bush or drop at her feet. It wasn't that she was doing much better; her ribs were a complete mess, making movement, breathing or anything else blindingly painful. She'd ripped up her undershirt to make a make-shift bandage but it was doing jack and shit at the moment. ~But we are moving.~"
~Cats and Meggan are a little bit worse for wear, but they're okay. We firebombed Callie, so we're unlikely to be pursued from that direction.~ It hadn't been fun for Warren, deliberately injuring one of their own, no matter how twisted and brainwashed she was. But there were certain choices that had to be made, and that had been Warren's call.
"Frost, we're moving the people deeper into the hills, Even if they retreat, they will be back soon enough. There is a resistance group attacking Prenova. Follow that line of hills and you'll find yourself in their path. That way, the GDF will follow you and not these people." Jayresh said, unconcerned about the danger they would face. He had his responsibilities.
Wade took down another Magistrate with violent twist of his hands, breaking the man's neck. Turning, he prepared himself for another fight - one that wasn't waiting for him. He saw that one of his people with earth-powers was down, the other trying to help him, and his other locals were watching in disbelief as the remaining Magistrates began pulling back. They smiled at one another, but Wade just frowned. ~Hey, McFrosty Senior - we got a problem. They're falling back. It's an organized retreat and withdrawal. I'm pretty sure this isn't going to end well. At all. More than likely, there's a larger force coming at us now that we've been softened up. Probable air strike.~ Which meant they needed to get out. Now.
Shifting to her powers mean that for a moment Wanda blinked off the mental net that Emma had looped them all in but it was necessary. She watched the strings disburse in places only to regather well back from the group. It would have seemed like a good thing but as Wade had pointed out, it probably wasn't. As she watched and waited the strings shifted from a subtle red to the dark rusty blood color and she immediately dropped her powers and reached back out to Emma. ~Wade's right. Something big is coming for us and it's coming now.~
~I'm hardly the type to argue on strategic retreat,~ said Emma, dryly. ~Considering how hard I have been trying to make it happen.~ She knew Wanda would understand the reference to what Emma had had to do to Fred. With a shift in her attention, Emma widened the telepathic switchboard out and tapped into the minds of everyone she had tagged as belonging to her. ~Now, people,~ she started. ~It's time to get out.~
