All is not what it seems.

Scott groaned quietly as he stretched out on his bed shifting uncomfortably, the Magistrates hadn't been happy with the failed prison break and hadn't been shy about expressing their displeasure. He closed his eyes against the dark and listened for the sounds of the guards as they passed on their rounds.

There was a stirring of air in the shadowed corner of the cell, then a soft gasp, like that of a swimmer surfacing after a long time underwater. Impossibly, where Scott had been alone in the cell, now he had company - Amanda crouched for a moment on hands and knees, body heaving from the effort of breathing.

Scott opened his eyes as he felt the rush of displaced air rush over his skin. "Amanda?", he said in surprise as he pushed himself up off the bed and reached out his hand to steady her and help her up.

"In the flesh," she replied with a weak grin, taking the offered hand gratefully. "Sorry. 'Porting without a recharge is a bitch and a half."

Scott guided the exhausted witch to the bed before resting against the wall. "I'm glad to see you're still waking around after today."

"I avoided any more head injuries," she replied wryly, taking a seat gratefully. "Still, no rest for the wicked. Looks like the plan's going just as Remy said." Her tone, still quiet, turned more businesslike, a strange contrast to the orange prison jumpsuit and the bruises around her temple.

Scott nodded thoughtfully, "Things turned out better than I had hoped," he agreed. "Remy managed to get himself thrown into isolation. I hope Sarah didn't hurt him too badly," he continued with a quiet note of concern in his voice. "Do we know what happened to her after everything?"

Amanda's face hardened slightly. "Hauled off for the mutate process, and we all know what that's about. But if anyone's going to be able to get clear and get hold of this Wipeout character for us, it'll be her." She glanced up at the small viewing window set in the door. "I can't stay long. At least we won't be stuck here too much more - I don't think Doug's up for handling things much longer and some of the others are getting close to breaking point."

Scott's fists clenched at the thought of what they had risked Sarah going through. "They just need to hold out a little bit longer, the magistrates should start trying to cut deals with us in the next few days since they think they've broken us." He ignored how close the prisoners actually were to breaking; they'd pull through this, they had no choice.

"More tea parties with my good mate Brian." Amanda's tone was contemptuous. There was a noise in the corridor outside and she glanced back at the window again. "Time's up, unless we want them to find out their powers wipe doesn't work on magic," she said with a soft sigh. Teleporting even the short distance from her cell to Scott's had been tough without her mutant gifts to recharge her. Still, needs must and what was some fatigue compared to what her friends and teammates were going through?

She pushed herself off the cot, ready to go, then paused: "Scott?"

Scott looked up, "Yeah Amanda?" he replied.

"You're doing a good job, keeping everyone together." She paused, and grinned. "Not bad for a Boy Scout." And with that she slowly sank into the floor, vanishing from sight.
