Wanda leads a team to flank the Citadel.

It seemed like all the action was to their left, and this section of the Citadel was almost deserted. Or at least it seemed that way until the first volley of automatic weapons fire bracketed them. Around them, the sea breeze whipped the dirt up with the weapon fire.

When the gunfire started, Megan glanced around at her new team to squelch the fear that rose in her gut. She felt safe with the group and confident that she'd be able to help them defend the Citadel. Flying low, she was able to spot the enemy while avoiding making herself an obvious target.

Cammie went in right behind the little pink haired girl. The stuff that she shed from her skin didn't do anything to Cammie except tickle her nose. What she was doing was keeping the fire off of the little flyer. And having a damn good time doing it, dropping people like flies.

"Come on, motherfuckers, bring it!"

On the other side, Wanda was making sure to stay clear of any of the pink dust that was floating down - unlike Cammie, she was not immune and didn't relish having to fight off any sort of weird trip in the middle of a firefight. She'd placed herself in the middle of the group as they moved forward, unwilling to let her injuries slow down the group but needing to be close enough to the front to do enough damage.

In front of them, three guns suddenly exploded and caused at least one person to go down screaming as he clutched his hands to his chest.

Catseye was sticking close to Wanda, trying to keep an eye on the older woman (and out of the way of Megan's dust) in case her injuries got the better of her. She was in BigCat form and let out a roar in solidarity with Cammie, feeling much the same way as she launched herself at a guard.

For all the rough and tumble that Matt had been involved in in the past, he had never been involved in anything like this and he clutched his stick tightly, following the group and sticking close to Wanda. He didn't really know her so well, but she was easy to read with his sonar and injured, so she was sort of setting the pace, which he could keep up with. His senses strained as he whacked a guard hard, keeping them away.

Flanked on either side, Wanda kept moving forward and kept playing the chaos strings as much as she could considering that everything was shifting and changing. It was hard to concentrate and harder to make sure that something went to reach for didn't turn into something worse than she'd anticipated with only seconds to stop herself. It was working so far - between all of them, they were gaining ground; perhaps a little slower than she might have liked but they were advancing. It was something.

The fight to Cammie was almost like one, giant mosh pit and she loved those. One on level, she supposed it should disturb her, how much she lived for fighting. But on the other hand, it was a sense of peace. Being there, in the moment, completely. And there was direction to this too, which she had never had before. She had one guard by the face as he turned green she shoved him into another one, weaving through the chaos and spitting blood into the face of another who started screaming when it hit his eyes.

She was being up close and personal with these assholes and loving every moment of it. "Get away!" Pixie shouted down at the enemy engaged with Cammie, coating him with dust. His mind drifted into oblivion while Cammie obliterated his body. She watched Cammie plow through the enemies while focusing on keeping an even coat on anything in range of the other woman - and tried not to think about the carnage. She hoped the enemies would at least find peace in that one shiny moment before they were eliminated from this world.

Hearing a strange rattling noise, Matt paused, trying to figure it out. When he did, it was almost too late. "They're reloading on the left!" he informed Wanda, "And more guys are shifting into position on the right and behind us!" That was useful, he could call positions for the others. He'd had no idea that his powers could do that.

"Useful but, please, stick as close to me as possible," Wanda said, as she caused several on the left flank, the ones reloading, to drop thanks to a number of complicated string manipulations. It wasn't the entire group but enough to throw them into enough disarray as they tried to take their wounded back behind lines while calling up reinforcements. Matt's powers were proving useful, despite the obvious handicap, but she had no desire to test if he could dodge bullets and, despite her injuries, she wanted someone with special forces training (X-Men or otherwise) to be close by.

While Wanda caused disarray, Catseye bounded into the pile of guards to incapacitate the rest of them. She struck as fast as possible, never settling in one spot, her healing factor keeping her on her feet as first first one, then a second bullet that found its way into the large, bright target that was her BigCat form. The second bullet came just as the last guard on the left flank was knocked out, which hopefully meant she'd have a moment or two to heal, and with gritted teeth Catseye limped back to Wanda and Matt. She was also really hoping that Cammie and Pixie were dealing with the guards Matt had mentioned were shifting into position.

"Yeah, I kind of NOTICED," Cammie pointed out. Really, how thick did this kid think they were? It only bugged her for a moment though before she grabbed another man and dropped him a second later, as he convulsed and vomited on the ground.

Pixie barely registered what Matt had said and then Cammie was already on top of them. She was beginning to lose sense of the details of her surroundings and was feeling a strange kind of fatigue from deploying so much dust. But she kept at it- darting this way and that to avoid being a still target - always keeping close to Cammie, like some weird kind of trick kite on an invisible tether.

Sweat beaded Wanda's brow as they moved forward - an endless march against unending foes. Exhaustion was an old friend at this point and she knew that, eventually, something was going to give. But until then, she'd press on and she'd taken down as many of the enemy soldiers as possible before that breaking point arrived.

He was just trying to be helpful. His powers, age, and lack of training made him very conscious of all that he wasn't really helping with, though he was trying. He wanted to get out of there alive and not be a liability Things were moving faster than Matt could track at the moment and it didn't take more than a guard getting through Cammie that he got taken down too, fighting. A solid punch to the jaw got Matt back up again though, and a stick squarely on his stomach kept him there. "Are these guys multiplying or does it just seem like it?" he gasped.

"There has to be an end..." Pixie could barely keep up as well. But the fear that anyone would slip through her crop-dusting and get to Cammie, while Cammie was in turn busy keeping the soldiers off her, was terrifying enough to keep her moving past the point of exhaustion.

Catseye sucked in the lovely the sea air, using it to rally herself and push her healing factor to extract the second bullet she'd taken and rejoin the fray. She could also smell plants. Like, really, really smell them. More than she should have been able to if they'd all been natural on this coast. Uh oh. She shifted back to girlform, doubling over from the pain in her stomach. "I think we're about to be in really big trouble," she shouted to the group. "I think I smell Evil!Callie!"

Mutate 557 had been sent once more to deal with the terrorists. She had been sent with a squad, which fanned out as she walked out of a small, nondescript door and onto the Citadel's grounds. Mutate 557 tired of these meetings, but she did not tire. They were weak, they tired easily, but she was strong, strong enough to be chosen to protect her country from all that were sent to harm her.

"Surrender now. You will never triumph. Genosha will never fall."
