Kurt/Sarah/Jessie - Arriving
Jun. 16th, 2012 08:39 amThe other Vale twin is welcomed by Kurt and Sarah. Twin Talk ensues.
The taxi that parked outside of the mansion was completely nondescript, regular in every sense. In a way, it didn't make sense for the girl sitting behind to be doing this on her own; her parents were worried about her, and rightfully worried about their other daughter...but that's not what the girl had seen; the greeting had been between her, her twin and, well, some blue impish guy. She had totally not mentioned him of course. Was it safe for someone with her...condition to travel alone? Not really, but so apparently she could trust her visions. It put her on that place and time, and there she was, unharmed. She had had some episodes on her way there, but all while traveling, so she had nothing to worry about. Paying the taxi driver, the girl stepped to a side after her bags were unloaded and the taxi made its way back. It was all very foreboding, she had to accept.
Before the girl had a chance to inquire how she was getting inside, the metallic doors opened by themselves. She was expected, of course, not to mention there were cameras checking her. "Here goes nothing, I guess." Picking up her things, Jessica Vale made her way into the mansion.
Sarah had been looking forward to her twin's arrival ever since she'd heard about it awhile back. It was a little disconcerting to hear that her sister was having what her parents termed as episodes but she was confident that whatever Jessie was going through Xavier's was the place to best address things. Her sister was her closest friend - well, aside from Layla now, but that was entirely different - so she was so very glad to know they'd be back together again, and not just for holidays or vacations.
She looked up at Kurt, who was waiting with her to greet Jessica to the school. Normally teachers did this sort of thing but Sarah had asked to be part of the welcoming committee, seeing who it was and how close they were. "She should be here soon, yeah?" A quick glance down at her steampunk watch - which Jessica had given her long ago, and which had mercifully survived her ordeal in Genosha - showed that it was about that time.
Kurt started to answer, then tilted his head towards the doors. "I do believe she is already here. Hello, Miss Vale."
"Oh wow." Jessie stared at Kurt, but it wasn't the way one would usually do it; there was no surprise on her eyes, or at least not directed at him. That's when her vision had ended; she stood there looking at the two of them, greeting her. That's why she knew she would be alone at this moment, although Jessie took a moment to wonder whether her parents being here or not would have changed things.
Getting over herself, Jessie dropped her bags as she moved to shake hands with Kurt. Never say she didn't know manners. That dealt with, she proceeded to hug the hell out of her sister. "I've been calling you like crazy. Did you and your phone break up again or what?"
Sarah threw her arms around her sister in return, hugging her tightly. One of the things that had hit her the hardest upon her return from Genosha was that if anything would have happened to her, her family wouldn't have known what had happened to her. She had spent a lot of time wondering what if, and was so very glad to have her there in person.
"I'm... well, I'm ok now, I guess. Long story, kinda, but I'm so very happy to see you!" She hugged her tightly again and grinned, adjusting her hat she'd borrowed from Layla. "So how was the trip here?"
"Very good to have you with us", Kurt said, smiling. "I know Sarah has missed you - but Sarah, perhaps you should have this conversation somewhere more comfortable than the front hall?"
Jessie hugged her twin some more. "I want to hear everything. " Finally letting go, she took notice of the hat. "Everything." Turning to Kurt, she inspected his expression for a moment. "Hey, you guys are the experts, and I could really use some help. But okay, inside we go." So she picked up her bags again. "Lead the way."
Sarah nodded at Kurt, who was of course correct. "You're right, sorry sir." She reached down to pick up one of Jessie's bags, wanting to help her sister out. "Right this way, I'll show you where you'll be staying, and then my room." Eventually she'd show her around and introduce her to everyone but she was looking forward to having a nice, long chat with her sister first. "I mean, if that's ok with you, sir." She didn't want to step on the teacher's toes, after all.
"Of course it is", he assured her. "It is not often we have a new student who already has family here, so of course that family should be the one to show her around."
"Cool." Jessie was a bit if a loss with formality; but where her sister was full of it, she usually kept it to the bare minimum; still, it wasn't as if Kurt had demanded to be actually called sir. He hadn't even really introduced himself! But Jessie knew there would be time for that later. As they closed in to the mansion, her attention was drawn to the building. "Oh, right, does somebody know where I'll be staying? Somehow I don't think I could make it all around this place carrying my bag aimlessly."
"It's a little daunting at first, yeah." Or at second, even, Sarah thought, remembering how intimidating the place had felt on her second arrival to the mansion. "You'll get used to it, though, promise." She grinned over at Jessie, then gave her another big hug. "C'mon, it's over this way, I'll show you!" She reached down and took her twin's hand, tugging at her to follow her.
"Jessica", Kurt said from behind them, following towards the stairs. "My name is Mr Sefton, I teach German and various other things, and Sarah can tell you where the staff rooms are. If you need anything, just come and find one of us."
Jessie followed her sister with a smile, but turned her head to address Kurt. "That's actually your last name...but it's been nice to meet you, Mr. Sefton. I have the feeling that sooner or later I'm going to need to introduce myself anyway. I just hope it doesn't turn into a show and tell of sorts, because my thing...well..." But Sarah kept on pulling so she left the sentence at that.
She'd probably apologize to Kurt later on, once Sarah realized how rude it was of her to just drag her sister away without properly introducing them and whatnot, but for now she was just giddy and anxious to chat with her sibling. It had been a long time since she'd been this excited about anything, after all that had happened with Genosha, and there was so much to tell Jessie, she didn't know where to begin.
Heading straight to the second floor, she pointed to the west side before heading to the east side. "The boys are over there, and this is the girls' side. Here's my room - Megan's my roomie, she's pretty awesome, you'll get to meet her soon I bet! - and Layla lives a little further down." Sarah grinned, talking a mile a minute as she whipped out her key and opened the door to her room.
"Oooh, Layla. Is she mad at me? I might freaked her out a while back. Which I have a completely valid excuse by the way." She followed her sister in. "Jeez, at least we don't share a room. That would be creepy much for some, I think." She threw her bag at a side and jumped at one of the beds, patting the side so Sarah joined her. "So, who first?"
"No, why would she be?" Sarah had completely forgotten about that, since it had been a nice awhile ago, back before they'd even been dating. A lot had happened since then and she couldn't imagine why Layla wouldn't like her twin sister. She frowned and waved her hand at the idea. "It would be, yeah, though we don't look all that identical now, really, heh." Her hand smoothed out part of her hat, thinking about all of her lost hair, which sucked more than she would've thought it would. Grinning, Sarah hopped onto the bed beside Jessie. "Well, probably the most important person you'll meet here will be Layla."
Jessie started to poke her sister on the ribs with her elbow. "So, are you two an item? Going at it?" In a way, she was proud; Sarah had never been much of a flirt, even if she did have the looks; Jessie would know, of course. "Want to tell me more about her before I meet the lady? I really want to make things right with her, actually."
"Well, I mean... yeah, we are." Sarah smiled, looking down at her hands as she blushed furiously. It wasn't like she wanted to hide that fact from her sister, but talking about Layla made her pretty giddy and easily embarrassed, even with her twin. "She's awesome, and she's just going to love you, I know it!" Her girlfriend and her twin not getting along was just a total impossibility to her, after all, they had to get along, right? The two most important people to her in the world? Of course they did. Distracting from the blushing, it was her turn to poke her sister. "So, hey. Mom and Dad didn't go into much detail but, um, what's your ... you know. Your thing." Power still seemed a little weird for her to say, even after years of dealing with her own and being at Xavier's.
Sarah's answers prompted more elbow poking for a moment. "We'll see about loving, but if she's good for you I bet she and I won't instantly hate each other, at least." Not to mention she would never do something to upset her sister, like threatening the life she had here now; making good with Layla was perhaps the most important task she had at the moment. "My thing? Well..." Jessie waved a hand in the air, as if trying to illustrate something, although she wasn't able successfully do so. "I see the future. Like, the future future." The girl made a face. "Sometimes is the future that's just about to happen, and sometimes the future that's going to happen later. But it's...it's weird."
She grinned at that, shaking her head. "Thanks sis, I just know you'll get along though." It was kind of extremely important to her that the did, at any rate, so hopefully that would be exactly what happened. Sarah turned to better face Jess, pulling her legs up and sitting cross legged as she did so. She frowned at the initial explanation, not quite sure what to make of it, the opened her eyes wide in surprise. "Oh wow, so you can tell the future? Holy cow, Jess, that's pretty powerful." It sounded pretty powerful to her at least, wow. She didn't know just how well her sister could control it, however, or how much she could see, but something of that nature alone sounded very impressive to her. Frowning once again at the mention of it being weird, she blinked at Jess. "Weird ... how so?"
Without thinking, Jessie sat exactly like her sister as she faced her. "Well, for starters, I can't control it. It just happens and it drives me crazy because seriously? Every time it happens I just go like, blank. Blank, like catatonic or something. And the visions are so weird..." Jessica sighed, looking downcast for a moment. "You know when someone sees the future, you imagine they have this really esoteric visions or flashes. Me? It's like suddenly I'm Future Jessie for a week later or five minutes or whatever, and I don't even know I'm Future Jessie, but I'm doing things, thinking things, all Future Jessie's stuff." Another sigh. "Damn you, Future Jessie."
Sarah reached over and patted Jessie on the leg when she looked downcast. "That does sound like it'd be kinda... I dunno, disorienting and, well, weird like you said." She frowned, feeling sorry that her sister was having such problems with her abilities. "Well, one of the best things about being here is that there's so much support and training available to help you with that, Jess." It was what they did there, after all, and there were many people with abilities similar to that who could help out her twin, she was sure about that. "So, do you have any control over it at all? And, like, can you see other people's futures and stuff, or just your own?"
Seeing Sarah worrying was enough to make Jessie light up, patting the hand her sister had extended. "It's nothing I can't deal with, and I hope I learn how to, uh, control it. I don't know, usually people would want to stop it, but it's sort of useful, you know? It's kinda cool to know future stuff." Leave it to Jessie to be optimistic about having her life completely thrown out of the window by sudden mutant powers. "But yeah, no control whatsoever. It's usually just like...I get this funny feeling and kinda go empty-eyed for a few seconds and boom, future knowledge right on my brain, but other times I freeze for minutes just because." Jessie shrugged. "It's a bit scary, but it's mostly a pain in the ass. There goes my driving license."
Nodding at her sister's comments about her abilities being useful, Sarah shifted a bit on the bed to get more comfortable. "I know what you mean, I feel the same way. Not that mine are like yours, but still, I think I know what you mean." She hadn't had the unfortunate side effect of freezing like it sounded like her twin had, so couldn't relate 100%. "You'll get it under control, I just know you will. I've gotten so much better since I've been here, it's really made a huge difference. Plus there are awesome people here too." Sarah nodded, it was true. "Aww, I bet once you do get it worked out you'll be able to get one, sis. And if not, well, you can borrow mine. You look more like my picture in it now anyway, heh." Once again she reflexively moved her hand up to her hair, only to adjust her hat a little instead.
"Well, if I can learn to get some control, I'll be a lot more relaxed, trust me." Not knowing when she would go blank was terrifying at times. "Now you are going to tell me what the hell happened with you hair, and I don't want you to lie, because I can tell when you do it." Jessie would not take a no for an answer this time around.
Having more control over her abilities had worked wonders for Sarah, so she could only imagine how much it'd help someone like Jessie. Her smile faded a little as her twin brought up her lack of hair again, knowing that she'd have to tell her sooner or later. "Ok, ok, well... there was this little... incident." Incident wasn't quite the word for it, not even close, neither was little. "We went to a protest - you remember hearing about Genosha, yeah? - and... we kinda got kidnapped?" She frowned and looked to see how well the beginning of their ordeal sounded to her sister.
Jessie's face was serious now. She had heard about it. "Okay, spit it out sis. I'm staying here for good, so it's either you telling me or someone else letting me know. And I would rather it be you." And as if she needed to reassert her twin, Jessie crossed her legs under the bed, arms crossed on her chest.
Sarah sighed, knowing that look all too well. All the years they spent growing up together had taught her that once Jessie put that look on her face, along with that posture and that tone of voice, she knew it was a waste of time to argue with her twin. Jessie was right, too; she'd find out about Genosha one way or another, either from her or from some of the other students at the school. It was for the better that she heard it from Sarah herself, especially since telling her sister might mean she wouldn't ask anyone else and there'd be less of a chance of her finding out what Sarah herself did as a mutate; she didn't want to know that herself so she figured Jessie wouldn't want to either.
Taking a deep breath, Sarah nodded her head and tried to think about where to begin the long saga of Genosha. "Ok, well. There was this protest and we decided it'd be a good idea to go watch it. That's where it all started to go wrong."
Jessie listened, and asked, and inquired. Not a detail remained unexplained, not a doubt was spared. At times, it looked like the girl was about to throttle her twin, and at times it looked like she wanted to hug her. She did hug Sarah a couple of times. By the time she was done, Jessie wasn't sure how long has it been, but she felt torn; she was happy her sister was with her, but at the same time her image of what she had been doing here was now less fun and more....well, perhaps closer to what superheroes did.
"Jeez, what a couple of weeks." What else was she supposed to say?
"Yeah, right?" Sarah exhaled, shaking her head and scratching her head. It was annoying how itchy it had grown since she'd lost her hair, though she kept telling herself that meant her hair was growing back so it'd be ok again in time. "So yeah, what have you been up to, sis?" She smirked a little, falling back on the bed and looking up at her sister. It was great to have her back and to be able to just hang out and chat with her in person again, instead of having to do so by telephone.
"Me? You know, being cool, dealing with dad and mom, kissing boys and making them cry. Kissing girls and making them...uh, cry too. Freezing like a crazy person. The usual stuff." She plopped down as well. "Boring stuff. I wonder what my so called friends would think if they knew the Spectacular Jessie Vale prefers to fool around with her twin and watch movies or eat chocolate or just...hang, rather than going to a crazy party." Well, she also liked going to crazy parties, but not as much as this. "I'll make things better, Sarah. I'm here now." And Jessie extended her hand so Sarah could hold it.
Laughing as Jessie described her antics, Sarah just shook her head and reached out for her sister's extended hand, holding it tightly. "I'm glad you're here, Jess." Her being there didn't make everything instantly alright, both of them knew that, but it certainly was going to go a long way in helping to make things better.

Nodding at her sister's comments about her abilities being useful, Sarah shifted a bit on the bed to get more comfortable. "I know what you mean, I feel the same way.
