Hope & Tandy: first meeting
Jun. 25th, 2012 03:00 pmHope meets her suite mate Tandy.
Tandy sat in the suite by herself, the only light coming in was from the window off to the side. Having arrived Friday night, Tandy pretty much had the entire suite to herself - not that she complained or mind. She was playing WoW with her laptop on her lap, the sounds of battle filled the room, when the door opened. The blonde looked over to see someone standing in her door way. Putting the laptop to the side, Tandy stood up and walked over. "Hi. I am Tandy. Need help with those?" Looking down at the luggage.
Hope was a little surprised when the blond girl suddenly stood before her, but she quickly recovered herself and smiled. "Thank you, I would really appreciate that. I am Hope Abbott." She held out her hand, her other hand nervously smoothing her hair down.
"Sorry about just popping out of nowhere." Tandy shook the other girls hand. "I am pretty new myself. Arrived here on Friday night, had the entire suite to myself so I am a little happy to see that I won't be alone anymore." Picking up one of the bags and walked deeper into the suite.
Hope quickly picked up her other luggage and followed her. "I am sorry, but I think I missed your name?" Hope asked hesitantly as she followed the girl to one of the doors the room seemed to have. "We have all this space for ourselves?"
"Tandy. Tandy Bowen." The blonde answered her. "Yup pretty much. There are two rooms to every suite. I am guessing we get our own room until more students arrive." Looking back over at Hope, before opening the door to the unused room. "This is yours. Mine room is across the living space."
"Tandy..." Hope repeated the name to herself. She followed Tandy into the room, taking in the two beds, closets and desks that were neatly arranged around the room. "May I just choose one of the beds?" She asked, putting her bags against the wall.
"Yup. This room is all yours for now." Looking around, it was exactly like hers but opposite and on the other side of the suite. "Where you from Hope?" The blonde looked over at the new girl. It was odd for Tandy to think like that, especially when she was new herself.
"I am from Bloomfield Hills in Michigan." Hope explained briefly, taking in a little more of her new surroundings. "Where do you live, Tandy? And do you like it here?" She took a seat on the edge on the bed she had picked for herself, arranging her legs neatly and folding her hands in her lap. "Please, take a seat."
"I hail from Shaker Heights, Ohio. And I have only been here for a week, so I'll let you know in a week or two. So far it seems pretty cool. There are a lot of people here with different powers that are cool and the mansion is like huge." Tandy walked over and sat on the other bed and crossed her legs, Indian style. "So why are you here?"
"I manifested a few days ago and my mother arranged for me to come here so I can receive assistance with my... abilities." Hope quickly aimed her gaze at her hands, not wanting to show the turmoil in her eyes "Professor Xavier is still arranging everything at the moment. Have you also recently manifested, Tandy?"
"Guess we are two peas in a pod then." Tandy said to the other girl. "Yes. Beginning of the month actually. I ended up in a coma for five days before I awoke, that was a two weeks ago on Sunday. My family knew someone who teaches here so she came and got me on last week." Looking down at the floor, "How old are you?"
Ended up in a coma for five days? Then just fainting and being taken to the hospital didn't sound as bad... "I turned fifteen in May...." Hope hesitated for a moment before venturing carefully: "May I ask what you can do, Tandy?"
Tandy looked down at her hands when asked what she could do. The blonde didn't want to frighten her new suite mate. "I can form daggers out of light. Not exactly sure how it works but they form out of my hands." Running a hand through her blonde hair and looked up at her. "Or where the light comes from. I think the light is part of me. I am still trying to figure it all out. You?"
With a deep breath, Hope reigned in her emotions and she kept her voice even as she explained: "I leave my body and hover above it. I am told I resemble a ghost in this state. Professor Xavier called it astral projection." But deep inside she was lot more confused. Superhuman senses made sense (after all Perrin Aybara had those), talking mind to mind she had also read of... but of making daggers of light? That she had not heard of.
"That is pretty cool." Tandy said, thinking about how it would be like to hoover above your own body. "And kind of scary at the same time. At least you have a name for yours and know a bit about it." Biting her lower lip before she continued to speak. "I suppose since we are going to be sharing a suite together there is something else I should tell you."
Hope's eyes quickly swept over her suite mate. "Yes?" She asked, trying to interfere as little as possible in what Tandy wanted to say. Her eyes were questioning though...
"If I start looking like I am getting sick - you know like sweating, fever, not wanting to move, also if I start seeing things - can you alert the staff and quickly leave the room. Not to be scare you or anything. I just don't want anything bad happening to you. I am not sure why it happens yet, but it has been on a right at the seven day mark since my powers emerged. My light daggers are sort of unleashed unwillingly on their own." Tandy regretted right away for saying that, but hey Hope had a right to know now she was going to share a suite with her.
She had to blink a few times. A true lady is always kind and considerate to everyone. A little voice piped up in her head. Even though the idea of being hit by a dagger of light was freighting, she had to be kind of considerate of her suite mate. So she just nodded: "I can do that and I will be careful. It would probably be wise from my side to tell you that when I manifested, I fainted. It might always happen, but it also might not."
"Okay. I'll keep an eye out on that too. I don't want to scare you or anything...I don't know the full extent of the daggers. They can be pretty dangerous I think." Looking down at her hands. "But it is only once a week. Hey are you thirsty? There is a mini fridge in the living area with some drinks in them."
"Once a week is not that often. We can deal with that." Hope attempted to reassure her roommate with a small smile. "And yes, I would love something to drink. Maybe we could move to the living area? I would like to see it and I can unpack later."
Tandy stood up and stretched out her legs before moving back to the living area. "I think there is soda and water. Which one would you prefer? I think we can always stock stuff that we actually like in here." She went over to her laptop and logged herself out of the WoW servers and walked over to the fridge. "It is kind of boring looking in here." Looking around the bare room.
"Some water, please." Hope took a seat on the couch where she could easily see her suite mate. "Perhaps we can attempt to decorate when our living arrangements are permanently settled. I understood they were somewhat temporary?"
Pulling out a water bottle and a soda, Tandy handed Hope the water bottle. "From my understanding these are the student area. There are Layla and Maddie that live just across the hall from us. I can't remember the other names yet, but I'll get there. Boys are somewhere on this floor too. I think the other side. But the floor above us is where graduates and staff sleep and live. I wouldn't mind decorating the living area, even if it isn't permanent we can still brain storm if you want."
"Thank you." Hope opened up the water bottle and poured some in the glass Tandy had also brought with her. "Perhaps we can find two or three posters we both would like? They can easily be moved in case it will be necessary?"
Tandy sat down on the couch and looked around, "Posters would be awesome. What do you like?"
"It tends to vary." Hope explained honestly. "At home I have posters of the paintings "The Lady of Shalott" and "The Accolade" for example. Though I am aware that not everybody would enjoy these posters."
"I never heard of these paintings before but I am pretty sure they'll add class and artistic flare to the living area." Tandy looked around the room and nodded. "Yup artistic flare is totally what this room needs."
Hope's face broke into her first real smile since arriving at the school. "I would love that. I can show them to you on your laptop if you wish?"
Tandy grabbed her laptop and opened up the browser for the internet. "Here." Handing Hope her laptop so Tandy could see this paintings.
With a few quick taps on the keyboard, Hope pulled up the paintings. "This is 'The Accolade' and this is 'The Lady of Shalott'." She quickly pointed them out. "May I ask what kind of posters you enjoy?"
Looking over Hope shoulder and saw the paintings. "Ooo...they are very medieval-ish." Tandy thought about it for a second by staring off at the walls. "I am not sure, maybe some old looking movie posters or something."
"That should be possible." Hope twisted her head just a little. "Which movies do you enjoy? Or which type?"
"All kinds actually. My favorite being classic horror movies. You know the black and white ones. And anything Broadway." Tandy said smirking just a bit. "I am a drama geek, theater is awesome."
"I have been to some forms of theater fairly often, though I have never acted myself." Hope explained, while she pulled up a website of movie posters. "Something like this maybe?"
"You should try it...it is a little nerve racking at first cause you have to speak in front of people, but I think it is worth it." Tandy looked over Hope's shoulder again, "Yup those. Also vintage posters are pretty awesome. Maybe we can find more of the medieval look."
"I will think about it." Hope tried to remain neutral about the idea. "Music is more my strength. And I do like those posters. This one seems very romantic." Maybe Xavier's would not be so bad for now... Hope decided. At least until she had learned enough to hide her powers from the outside world and she could go back to the normal things she worked on.
"Oh what kind of music?" Tandy said, getting to know her suite mate. "Maybe they will let us paint the walls. Okay I am going way out there now." Opening her soda and taking a sip.
"I play the violin." Hope explained, ignoring the pang that shot through her at what the whole violin contest had led to. "And painting? Maybe once you have more permanent living arrangements, if you truly wish to?"
"Really? I never met someone before that played the violin... piano yes but not the violin. Did you bring it with you?" Tandy said, forgetting about the painting of the walls for just a minute.
"Yes, I did. The case is in my room." Hope thought for a moment, trying to turn conversation away from her violin music. "You said you enjoyed drama? Have you done any plays?" Turning the conversation back to her suite mate seemed like a good plan.
"Been in almost school play since I can remember. There is something about drama and theater that is just so...fun and not boring at all." Tandy said taking the bait. "Heard there was no drama here so that sucks...but I can go for a drama club in the city if I want."
Hope nodded, putting the laptop from her lap to the side. "Do you have a favorite part in a play?" Maybe she would just be able to handle this strange school...
