Log: Matt & Korvus
Jun. 14th, 2012 10:59 pmMatt says goodbye to his suitemate, Korvus, and they discuss hanging out once Korvus is an RA and Matt is un-grounded.
Matt leaned against the doorway to Artie and Korvus' room. It was open, so he had no real problem with bothering his suite-mates. "I heard you're going to be the new RA," he said without preamble to Korvus. He knew it was the Indian teen from his heartbeat and smell. Everyone was distinct.
"That is correct." Korvus confirmed, standing and turning to face Matt. He was now only cleaning his old space, making sure he left everything as pristine as he had found it.
He wasn't sure what to think of that exactly. "Cool," Matt shoved his hands in his pockets, "Which one are you replacing then?"
"Jean-Phillipe. I am not sure if it is necessary to have one female and one male RA but I am assuming the former male RA's post." Korvus explained, probably more than he needed to. "I know you are not fond of me but I will do my best." He assured Matt.
Matt's lips quirked slightly, "I don't get you," he corrected, "I don't know if it's because I can't see body language or cultural differences or what, but you come off as really formal and...I dunno. Not fun. But I don't dislike you or anything," he couldn't relate to Korvus or find any sort of common ground despite trying.
"I believe we had this conversation. You believe I am privileged." Korvus recounted. "I understand why you would not like that trait."
"That was part of it," he agreed, "but not so much now. I think the punk rock music helped." Matt was still consistently surprised with Korvus' choice in music, but it was a good thing too. It's not like they ever hung out or anything,
Korvus smiled, offering an unprompted explanation. "I reject the idea that authority is necessary for a functioning government." He thought for a short moment. "Or that an industry is necessary to determine what is of appropriate quality for consumer consumption."
And Matt was lost. It wasn't that he didn't understand what Korvus was saying, it was that he had never given these things any thought or consideration of his own opinion on it, "I think you over estimate people doing the right thing for altruistic reasons," he finally replied, thinking about people he had met in his own life. "Some people do the right thing because it's right," he agreed, "but a lot more do the right thing because they fear being caught and the repercussions. Regardless though, I don't think it'll actually happen, whether it is better or not."
"It will now that digital distribution has made music a post scarcity commodity." Korvus asserted casually. "Unless you mean you don't think a government without authority can exist. They have previously... altruism is not a prerequisite and laws are not precluded."
Matt was so over his head. This wasn't anything covered in his classes. Maybe it would be this coming fall when he took government and economics? "Well, I admit that things aren't working now with the government," he agreed. "The haves have not a clue."
"It does seem to be the condition of a post-Industrial economy." Korvus agreed with a nod. "I am sure the issues will be addressed in their time." He could tell Matt was either uninterested or uninformed on the topic so he let it pass.
It was more uninformed, but there were from very different backgrounds and with different educational levels and interests. Matt was behind and trying to catch up with his group whereas Korvus had just graduated, "So what are you doing now that you've graduated?" he asked, changing the topic.
"I intend to study Philosophy at ESU while concurrently training with the X-Men." Korvus sat back on the bed. "Would you like for us to schedule a regular bonding activity in order to maintain a similarly close relationship to the one we currently enjoy? It is my understanding that there is live, local punk music in the city most nights. We could find a club that has an attached outdoor area so as to still hear the music but not as directly."
"I'm confined to campus for the summer," Matt replied, but he nodded, "Yeah. I'd like to do that. I miss the...everything about the city. As much as it can hurt and give me migraines, I've got better control now so it'd be good to get out more. It just needs to be an all-ages sort of thing too."
"I will research an appropriate venue for when you are available. First Saturday evening of the month?" Korvus offered for the schedule.
"Okay," Matt smiled, pleased by this. Hopefully, he and Korvus could be better friends now. Or at least, hang out with some good music. "I might know some places in the city. I dunno if there's anything closer."
Korvus nodded, "We can compare notes as to possible locations or attend a variety of different venues until we settle on one we prefer." He offered as options. "After the summer, of course."
