Amanda and Nico arrive and find Molly who gives them the details. They go to Elizabeth Rose and find out no magic is involved, but there is a way to turn things back to normal.
They weren't getting anywhere, and by now Amanda and Nico were pretty certain they weren't dealing with magic; there was no magical trace to get a hold on anyway. So it had to be a mutant; the idea had popped almost at unison on both witches' heads; it was, after all, entirely possible to mess with the minds of a large number of people at once if one had enough power. The problem now was to find the source, or rather, the one making things the way they were.
"Hey", called Nico as she poked Amanda's ribs with her shoulder, as she looked at somewhere else. "Do you think the little girl on the King throne might have something to do with this?"
Amanda wrinkled her nose. "She looks awfully young to have this much whammy. But then again, there's no age limit on powers accidents. Besides, where else would the person in charge of all this crazy sit?"
"Are you talking Medievally too? Cause...everyone's acting weird...Kinda like at Halloween but everybody thinks they're knights and maidens and stuff..."
Nico shrugged. "Specially if it's a crazy little girl." She turned to Molly. "Uh, no? Do we sound medievally to you? I would be a bit worried if I did."
Molly frowned. "They didn't sound medieval before and then they did..." she said. She made a face at the little girl.
"She was scared of Korvus and...and then...Blammo," she said, her arms opening wide, mimicking an explosion. "It was like the Princess Bride."
"What do we do?"
"We talk to her," was Amanda's matter-of-fact response. "She hasn't actually hurt anyone, so let's find out what's going on before we do anything else." And after Rachel, Amanda had no stomach for hurting a little girl. "Molly, stick close to me - if anything happens, I'll throw up a shield and I want to make sure I've got you covered as well."
The group approached the throne, where Amanda surprised her companions by dipping into a full curtsey - Asgard had been handy for something. "We beg an audience with Your Highness," she said to the girl, watching her carefully for any 'funny business'.
Swinging her legs as Elizabeth Rose saw three more people approaching. “Hi!” she cried, waving excitedly; she had cookie crumbs on her lips, “We are about to have a princess tea party. You can sit there." she said, pointing to empty seats. "Come."
Nico didn't eyeroll at Amanda because this was important, but she could have told her they would go 'in character'; as it was, the goth simply stood next to Molly, trying to look as serious and lady like as she could...which might not have been entirely serious and lady-like.
Princess tea party, yay; Nico felt as if she had falling into some weird dimension. "Thank you", said Nico. "Excellency." Yeah, she couldn't forget that bit. A hand on Molly's shoulder, she took the girl with her to the appointed seats.
Molly 's eyes widened as she glanced between Nico and Amanda as they suddenly started speaking weird. Uh oh. Everyone that got near the little girl got weird. But in the face Nico still looked annoyed and she always looked annoyed. Maybe they were playing along.
Molly sat down beside Amanda and Nico, adjusting her belt thingy. The Ren Faire was funner when it was all pretend, not when everyone thought they were really in the old days.
Sitting down, Elizabeth Rose looked at her guests and then looked at the younger one. "Here you go." Giving a cookie to Molly. Her eyes widen a bit as she thought she saw a shadow looming behind them. "It's him!" Though it really wasn't, "He is scawy." The young girl said as she tried to duck under a chair. "I need more people to protect me. Or else he'll want to take the crown and rule over everywhere."
Amanda was carefully watching the girl. Not a sniff of magic, no indication of possession... the whole thing smacked of a giant game of Pretend. "Well, I'm sure we can protect you," Amanda said, her tone recalling her days of babysitting Valentia and taking care of Meggan. "My apprentice here and I are good fairies, sent to keep you safe by your fairy godmother. So you don't need all the rest of these people, see?"
Nico used the few seconds where Elizabeth Rose wasn't looking at them to shoot Amanda her meanest, dirtiest glare. They would have words afterwards. "She's right, we can take care of him. The rest of your, err, subjects really don't need to be around. It could be dangerous to them." It was a pain, really, if she were older Nico would have simply suggested knocking her out and see what happened. "...who is him, by the way? The, eh, fairy grandmother sort of skimmed over the details." Nico turned towards Molly, asking her with the eyes if she was doing a remotely good job.
Nibbling on her cookie, Molly glanced up and met Nico's eyes, tilting her head curiously before realizing the 'question' and nodding quickly.
"They were on an important mission for the Fairy Godmother and um...could only come now," she told the little girl.
Peeking up, "You help?" Elizabeth Rose stood up and looked at the three girls, "If you can make sure the scawy knight go away then the game is over and we can all go home?" she continued, walking over to Molly, "You were with him...she knows who he is. Big scawy knight with big sword. It was scawy."
If this kid was doing things on purpose, she was the best actress in the world - it had to be an accident. Or a game. Amanda looked to Molly. "Knight?" she asked.
"The Black Knight. Sir Korvus," Molly said with a frown.
"Sir Korvus?" There was something fundamentally wrong with the little girl's head. Elizabeth, not Molly. "Well, if that is the case, we will make sure he lays no more waste in this lands." A beat. "Like, right now."
"Shouldn't be a problem." Amanda looked over to her student. "We'll, uh, lay the fairy magic smackdown on him for you."
"Her. I want her to do it." Pointing at Molly trying to be serious. "Then we can all go home."
At first Molly thought she was talking about Nico or Amanda when she said 'her' but then she was pointing and she blinked.
"Me?" she said, pointing to herself curiously. "Why me?"
It wasn't that she didn't wanna do it but Nico and Amanda were magical. She could just punch people.
"Because in the stories my mommy reads the young girl always wins and saves the kingdom and becomes a princess too." Elizabeth explained to Molly why she was the chosen one.
Falling silent for a moment, Molly smiled a little.
"Oh. My mom did too," she said. She nodded.
"Okay..um...that sounds good."
"No it doesn't Well then, let us depart."
Standing up, Nico sighed, what could they do, right? "Some girls play Pretty Pretty Princes, others just want to off the bad guy."
