Sue is a Yankees' fan. 'Nuff said.

Game 2 of the face-off between the Rangers and the Red Sox, and Maddie (sporting her second-favorite Rangers jersey) had settled down to watch it. But that was almost two hours ago, and what had once been a neatly organized set-up of small bowls of snacks and perfectly arranged pillows now consisted of a certain redhead fifteen year old sprawled out on the couch. Several of the pillows had somehow found their way toward the television (okay, they were thrown there during some particularly aggravating plays by her team; but none of them actually hit the TV, so it was okay), and most of the bowls were half empty now, but yet the game continued on and Maddie was still completely entranced by the little men on the team.

Sue pulled at the hem of her Yankee's jersey as she made her way down the corridor to the room she'd been told held the TV. The mansion was still pretty new to her, but watching her Yankees crush their opposition was a time honored tradition of hers; and one she didn't intend to change now. Someone was apparently already in the Rec Room the blonde discovered as she heard a commentator screaming about a home run followed by the sounds of a jubilant celebration. Rounding the corner into the room she discovered a redhead celebrating as the Rangers scored against the Sox. Grinning she moved up to the back of the couch, "Please tell me the Sox are being crushed".

"All tied up at 1-1. But there are three more innings left." Maddie's eyes remained glued to the television screen. "Not a runaway win for us like yesterday, but we can still pull it out. Not that it matters much since the Rangers are like five games ahead leading the division and the BoSux are not even in the running for the Wild Card at the moment. Yanks are leading, ugh. I guess it'll make it even sweeter when we kick their asses again next month. And in the playoffs."

"It's a sweet dream," Sue shot back, "but only that, a dream. The Yankees are gonna cream the Rangers next month, and again in the playoffs. This is their year and no-one is standing in their way," she declared proudly. Glancing over at her companion she noticed her Rangers jersey, "the Rangers are doing well but they stand no chance," she explained un-apologetically.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me." Maddie quickly sat up and focused her eyes on this new blonde, gazing intensely at her face trying to read her humorless expression. "Two years ago," she continued as she glared, "we didn't win a single World Series game. Last year we went to seven games and that last game was a battle. Nolan Ryan said that 2012 is our year to win it. Nolan. Fucking. Ryan. By far and away one of the greatest pitchers of modern times. Are you going to argue with the Ryan Express?"

She stopped suddenly in her rant, having noticed the jersey the other girl was wearing. Maddie knew the blonde probbably wasn't a Rangers fan (hardly anyone in this mansion was smart enough to like them; they all had terrible taste in sports teams) but when she caught sight of the pinstripes, well that was just that then wasn't it? Her eyes glowered and the redhead shot Sue her trademarked death glare. "You're a Yankees fan," she spat, her face contorting like she had just tasted the most vile food in the world. "That explains everything."

"Someone says that every year," Sue shot back, "'This is going to be our year, we're going to win it' but guess what, they don't. The Rangers are no different. Besides Nolan is a good pitcher, even a great pitcher; but he's not a psychic, he can't see the future. So even if he says it it doesn't make it true now." The blonde pulled at her jersey and flashed a grin at Maddie, apparently unaffected by the death glare, "Yup, Yankees and proud of it."

Maddie rolled her eyes. "Typical Yankees fan," she noted flatly. "So full of shit they're used to the stench. Buy all the names you want, that don't mean you're gonna win anything. The Rangers have been working hard and they just keep better every year. And what's more important is how much they want it. They got so close last year they could taste it. They have the heart and soul to drive them all the way.

"Besides. You Yankees say the same shit about 'we're going to win this year' and they don't always win either. Haven't been the same ever since the BoSox crushed them and broke the Curse of the Bambino."

"I'll let you in on a secret," Sue replied, "The team that could, you know the one with all the heart? It's not enough. They can hope and dream about winning but in the end they're just not good enough. Besides what does it say about the Rangers that they only come close to matching the Yankees when we're got a massive injury list. Lets face it, we're loosing players to injury left right and centre and you still can't keep up with us."

"Okay. One," Maddie held up her index finger and gave Sue her "bitch, please" look. "The Yankees have played one more game than the Rangers, and both teams have the same number of losses. So I'm calling that bullshit on 'can't keep up' right there. And two, What does it say about your team that you have the longest injury list in the league? Bad luck, or a high pressure situation that no one can keep up with since the huge steroid blow up?"

"Oh please, always with the steroid allegations, that's getting pretty cliche now," Sue complained. "The Yankees aren't into steroids. Having the longest injury list and still at the top of our division? That tells me that we're taking it all the way. You don't get there without 'wanting it' now do you?"

Eyeroll. There was a reason why the steroid allegations kept coming up, even if it was just to piss the fans off. That was part of the fun. "Injuries like that come from pushing your players too hard without consideration for their health." Maddie shrugged. "That's just the way it is. It's just a testament to the crap leadership the Yankees have. Just sayin'."

Sue echoed Maddie's shrug, "They want it more so they push temselves just that little bit harder and take that extra risk. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't. But they're giving it their all and that's why they're gonna win it." she stated matter-of-factly.

"You might want to go talk with Mr. Haller," the reply was completely nonchalant. There was no use giving more of her time and attention to this obvious waste of oxygen. Maddie flopped back down on the couch, frowning as her Rangers gave up another run. There was still time for them to come back. "He might be able to help with those delusions you're having."

"Delusions like that team winning?" Sue asked gesturing at the screen as the next batter walked out of the bullpen. She wasn't sure who Mr. Haller was, but she guessed from context that it was meant to be an insult of some kind.

"We'll just have to wait and see what happens on the diamond." Maddie smiled. She didn't really hate this girl for having crap taste in sports teams, not really. In fact, it felt kinda good to trash talk with someone who was not her teacher and who could not punish her when the debate got a little too heated. "Now. Are we going to talking about how much your team ultimately sucks, or are you gonna let me watch the rest of this game? There's popcorn if you want some, as long as you promise a) not to cheer if the Red Sox win, and b) not to get too excited when my boys do something stupid. Cause I love them, but they're men and by the laws of nature they're bound to do stupid things.

"In return, I promise to do the same to you. Even during the Yankees-Red Sox face off that's coming up. But when it's Yankees-Rangers," Maddie pulled herself up and held Sue's gaze. "All bets are off, bitch."

Sue pulled herself over the back of the couch and settled herself into the cushions as she reached over for the popcorn. "Deal," she agreed, "I'll tell you what I'll even cheer for the Rangers today," she grinned at Maddie, "even if they end up doing something stupid."

"Okay. But don't count on me ever cheering for the Yankees. I won't necessarily cheer for the other team, but I just can't cheer for them. If it were possible for both teams playing to lose, you know, that would be my ideal outcome, but that ain't happening. So I'll probably just sit and watch and make comments about both teams if they mess up or do something awesome. We cool?"

Sue nodded, "We're cool," she confirmed around a mouthful of popcorn. "It'll be nice to have some company watching matches here, I thought I'd be up here alone. Besides, the Yankees are going to be doing all the awesome stuff," she teased Maddie with a grin.

Maddie snorted. "Whatever, blondie."
