At Molly’s birthday celebration, Meggan and Tandy talk once Tandy has helped to fix a problem with Meggan’s costume.

Tandy was actually really happy that she didn't wear a wig for Starfire costume and just went with temporary dye - or she would had gone as a blonde Starfire. She was about to head up to the mansion when she noticed someone's costume was starting to fall apart, better be a good neighbor. "Hey. Your costume..." Tandy made a gesture to her costume. "It is starting to fall apart. Need help?"

“Yes. Please, yes, I might need more hands,” Meggan said as she gratefully looked over to her. “Could you grab that strip before it goes completely…while I pin this one back?” She couldn’t have sewn the little strips of gold fabric to herself earlier, not without raising suspicions and questions from Molly, and spoiling the big surprise—and so, she had used bobby pins to keep them affixed to her. Which were coming loose all over the place, as time passed.

A Robin costume hadn’t seemed like such hard work when Meggan had settled on it after hasty Googling and a use of green tights with red and black shirt. Her domino mask from Halloween past couldn’t possibly pick now to fall off, she thought happily—it had a strap, which wasn’t stretched out of shape. As she determinedly focused her attention on reattaching one strip that refused to cooperate, she didn’t feel the R magnet on her metal side button detach.

Tandy walked over to Meggan and grabbed the strip and held it in pace. "Robin? Nice choice." She said as she watched as the R on her shirt fall off, bending over she picked it up and held it in her hand. "Do you need help reattaching it?"

“Thank you. If the magnet doesn’t want to stick on the buttons again, I have extra pins,” Meggan nodded. She had stashed a few in pockets, and her hair, just in case she lost some during the fun of the day. Just pin it through the opening hole in the R. “We could move to below the left shoulder strip.” That had been where she had seen it on the website she had found, and not haphazardly fixed onto a button.

Tandy helped put back on the R on the left shoulder strip, "There...that should stay there. I think this yellow fabric is the only thing left, everything else looks in place." The blonde was giving Meggan's costume a look over to make sure it was all in place.

Meggan gave her a quick smile of gratitude, before putting an extra pin through the spot causing her the most trouble. She gave everything another look herself, before nodding in agreement. Nothing had immediately fallen to the ground when she moved her arm carefully to test things. “I think you’re right. The others are keeping hold now.”

Taking a step back and nodded. "Yup and it still looks awesome." Giving Meggan a smile, "I don't think we properly met before. I am Tandy."

That’s right, Meggan realized, they hadn’t really met outside of the regularly scheduled ‘hello to the new student’ on the journals. “Not officially or properly, no,” she grinned. “I’m Meggan.” No matter how clueless it might seem if it was a character that was very, very massively famous, she still wondered one thing. “I’m sorry, but who are you dressed as?”

"Oh Starfire." Tandy said after looking down at her custom. "She worked with the Teen Titans with the first Robin." Wow, she felt like a nerd right then and there. "Are you the Meggan with one 'G' or two?"

“It’s a great costume,” Meggan complimented. It really was, even if she wasn't familiar with Starfire. It also wasn’t on the brink of falling apart, even if everything finally appeared to be holding steady on her own Robin attire. At the question, she couldn’t help a smile. It was probably a question that had to be asked at some point, she knew. “Oh, I would be the one with an extra G roaming around in the middle.”

"Thank you." Tandy looked down at her costume, "She normally has red hair but I am not that into getting into character." Smiling as she looked up at Meggan. "Well it is nice to meet you Meggan. Do you live at the manor?"

“It was nice to meet you, too." Face to face, and not just waving welcomes on the journals. "Yes, I room with Molly,” Meggan confirmed with a nod. “Or I do until the official graduation ceremonies, at least. And then I’m going into another room, but I’m still here.” She liked living with Molly, she’d miss it when she had to gather up her belongings and go to another wing. Even if it wasn’t that far away.

"So they don't keep graduates and students together? I wonder why?" Her question was mainly asked towards herself. "Are you going to college?"

Meggan didn’t know the answer to that one, just that it had always been like that. “And students over 18 or seniors can go to that wing, if they want to.” She had put it off as long as she’d been able. “It’s Empire State University for me in the fall.” So not that far away from a starting date. She was primarily grateful that she had survived to be able to get to this point, with everything that had happened.

"That is the floor above the students right? Or is that just professors?" Tandy was hoping she was remembering the layout of the school. If she failed at this then it was going to be a very long summer. "What are you going to study? Sorry I am asking all these questions. I am just trying to get a feel of where people are going and such since we kind of live under the same roof." Tandy hoped she didn't sound like a stalker.

“It’s okay, it’s not too many question,” Meggan was quick to assure her. “That’s right, it’s that floor. The east side when you’re at the stairs, but then if you turn towards the west it’s teachers.” She knew sometimes people weren’t sure of which way to turn that wouldn’t put them in the wrong room, or a linen closet, if they were new. “I have a couple ideas, but I won’t know for sure until I’ve started trying classes. So...right now I’m thinking marine biology, maybe sociology.” She was going to be taking a variety of subjects for a while, until she fell in love with a course without having second, third or fourth thoughts about it.

"Might have to start carrying a compass then." Tandy joked at the thought of east side and west side of the manor. "Wow, that is...a lot of thinking classes." Tandy rubbed her head, "I am glad I don't have to think about that, yet. At least Marine biology sounds kind of interesting, minus the biology part."

“I love staying underwater and dolphins and the ocean, so maybe I’d like that one,” Meggan reasoned. It seemed like a fun option for her. Speaking of which… “That reminds me. If you’re outside, and you ever see me sitting or floating at the bottom of the pool, I’m okay. I’m just playing with making gills since summer’s here, I haven’t drowned.” After a moment, she explained with a sheepish grin, “Someone tried to rescue me once, so I usually carry a sign for the nearest door to the pool. But if you ever missed it, that’s all that’s happening.” It was best to warn her before an alarm was sounded.

"So your powers have something to do with water? Are you a mermaid?" Tandy was half joking and half serious, more serious than joking. "Okay, thanks for the heads up, especially since I plan on hanging out by the pool during the summer. It has been so nice outside.

“No, no, I’m not a mermaid,” Meggan denied with a small laugh. It was like that mermaid conversation with Kevin, back before he’d left. “I could make my legs have fish scales if I wanted while I’m underwater, but they won’t merge into a mermaid’s tail.” If she somehow managed to get something like that to happen, she was half afraid she’d get stuck like that and just flop around like a beached whale until someone came to her aid. “I’m an empathic shapeshifter. That’s just a little part of it.”

Tandy smiled a little bit when she confirmed she wasn't a mermaid. "I never heard of an emphatic shapeshifter. Then again I am new to this whole new world. So does that mean you shapeshift to your surroundings?"

“It means I feel people, and react to what’s around me and really extreme emotions, yes. Like a chameleon blending into things.” Then again, those just changed colors, so Meggan realized she was a little off with the analogy. A better example was needed. “If I weren’t paying attention and it was really cold—or if I just wanted more between me and the cold than just a pair of gloves—I could grow fur for a little while, for extra insulation.” It almost felt rude to just tell about her stuff, and not ask about Tandy's. She was curious. "What are your powers?" She didn't think she had spotted a mention on the journals, unless she managed to miss it completely.

"That is useful." Tandy said when Meggan gave her an example of her powers. "But you can't mimic people right? Or can you?" Tandy knew she was going to be asked about her own powers, it was only natural when it came to talking to someone new and the subject of powers came into the conversation. "I form light daggers from inside of me. So far they do more harm then good. Not really useful at all."

“No, not people,” Meggan verified. “Just stuff like hair color, eye color.” Little things like accidentally getting brick or wallpaper patterns all over your face, which wasn’t so bad and was an easy fix. Or Triscuit’s pleading dog eyes, she’d successfully experimented with that one once. She wasn’t sure if she should mention the bit about telling fire what to do. At least not without bringing up how she’d figured it out, which would lead back to talking about Genosha, which would only scare Tandy. “Do the light daggers burn things? Or is it more of a stabbing sort of harm?” Because if the light were bright enough or just hot enough to set something ablaze, maybe that was where the harm part came into the picture.

"Oh that is sweet." Tandy said thinking about how she would use that power if she had it. "Um...I am not sure really. If you are hit by them, you won't bleed blood and it does leave a nasty burn mark." Remembering Alice who was still in a coma, which Tandy lowered her head. "I put three people in a coma before I arrived here. Since then I have been having episodes, it is like I am on a timer, they put me in a room until it passes. I am still trying to figure it out myself."

“Oh,” Meggan said quietly. ‘I’m sorry’ and a hug seemed too small when it came to accidentally having made someone fall into a coma. “Sort of a light dagger siphoning off in a safe room for you, then, until you can find something else that's safe. Or not have to have a special room, maybe, when you’ve done it for a long enough time?” If the other girl didn’t know very much about it, then Meggan really shouldn’t start bugging her with all the questions she had. Or unintentionally bring her down with bad memories when it was supposed to be time for fun and costumes.

"Yea there is some kind of safe room in the hospital wing and I haven't tried out the infamous danger room that I have heard about. It is weird. It seems to happen at least once a week on its own. Rarely does it skip a week. It is what it is and I have learned the signs when I need to head down." Tandy smiled trying to be positive. "On the bright side I glow in the dark. No pun intended."

Meggan did hope she could get a grip over it someday. Rather than forced into a weekly thing with it for the rest of her life. She hadn’t even noticed the pun until Tandy pointed it out, but just couldn’t let it pass. “You could be a night light, if someone needed one after a bad dream, then,” she said, almost mischievously. “I think you win there…if it could be turned off and on at will, I mean. Someday.” Because she suspected it couldn’t be, or wouldn’t until more was learned. So not so good if Tandy couldn’t sleep because of it, either. “All I do is float in the dark sometimes. No glowing lights here.” She was just trying to make her feel better, even if it might not work.

"Yea, a night light. Or if we go camping or cave spelunking I will light the way." Tandy said with a giggle. "At the moment it comes and goes. Mostly when I get really embarrassed about something then it I really shine bright. Tandy smiled at Meggan. "Hey if you can mimic surroundings do you think you could mimic skin glowing?"

With light? That was a good question. “I’m not sure. It might be close,” Meggan admitted after a moment’s thought. “I think…it would be more like a mimic of the color involved with the glow, without any actual glowing or burning sensations happening. A mimic of the patterns of the light, if there were patterns or movement.” She supposed it might be similar to when she was trying to nudge fire along and had an imitation of the color and shifting patterns of it on her skin, with her hair actually moving in time with it.
"That is still pretty cool. I can think of some awesome Halloween costumes if I had your power." Tandy smiled followed by a giggle. "I am hungry? You? Want to go see if they still have hamburgers left?"

“Sure, a hamburger sounds good right about now,” Meggan agreed. It was a well-timed suggestion, since she was hungry, too. If all the hamburgers had all been devoured, though, maybe they could salvage one last remaining piece of cake before it went into someone else’s stomach.
