Tandy meets her new roommate, Renee and they hit it off.

One of the things that happens when you get kicked out of your house is you suddenly discover just how few things are really essential to your life. It had been with that in mind that Renee had gathered items from Chien's house before traveling to Xavier's. One backpack and a couple of duffel bags were all she needed to move what she had left from California to New York and it was all she carried with her into the common area of the suite she'd been assigned to. So. This was going to be home.

Tandy walked out of one of the bedrooms to see a new person in the middle of their common area. "Hi. New suite mate?" Dumb question to ask, unless the girl was lost, then again she wouldn't have gotten in if she didn't have a code or a key. Walking over to the small kitchen area and filled up a glass of water, "I am Tandy, guessing you'll be rooming with me. Unless you want to share a bed with Maddie or Hope." Pointing to the other bedroom with a door closed.

"Uhm, yeah. Hi." Renee smiled a little and dropped her bags as gracefully as she could. "I'm Renee. And I'm sure they're nice but I tend to take a first person invitation before sharing a bed." She hoped that came off as funny because as soon as it was out of her mouth, it sounded pervy. "So your room will be fine."

Tandy chuckled at Renee, "Good, cause I do happen to have a free bed. No sharing a bed involved." Setting down the cup, Tandy walked over and picked up a duffel bag. "I'll help you move into your side of the room. I just moved in myself about two months ago, so I just finally just unpacked everything."

When Tandy laughed, Renee quietly let out the breath she'd been holding and laughed a little. "Awesome." She picked up her other bag and followed Tandy toward the open door. "Oh, thank you. And that's kind of cool. Congratulations on not being the new girl anymore, I guess?"

Leading Renee into the bedroom, the room had two beds and two desk, one for each girl. "Thanks. But there are two others. Sue arrived last month and Hope, the brunette we will be sharing the suite with arrived two weeks after I did." Putting the bag on Renee's bed. "So here it, it isn't the greatest. Ms. Frost took me to get some posters to put up since the walls were a little bare. I haven't put them up yet, but figure would do so soon." Tandy sat down on her own bed. "So where are you from?"

"Oh, wow, I had no idea this place... I dunno, filled up so fast." She followed Tandy's lead, dropping her other bag and backpack on the floor near the end of her bed. "I can see the potential. It's a clean slate to work with, right?" A very clean slate, but hey, that was a great place to start. "California. San Jose, born and raised. You?"

"Yea same. A bunch of students graduate and a bunch of new ones with new powers and don't know what the hell is going on come marching in." Tandy gave Renee a side ways smirk. "But yea clean slate. A California girl, nice. I am from Shaker Heights, Ohio just outside of Cleveland aka middle of who cares." Tandy gave a little chuckle, "But seriously there really is nothing to do there.'

"It's a good thing this place is such a mansion. It'd suck if this school was run out of someone's basement apartment with us all sleeping on the floor." She flopped down onto her bed and rolled on to her side, nodding to Tandy. "Cleveland has the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That seems like it'd be kind of cool."

Tandy smirked, "I don't think I can get much sleep by sleeping on floors. So uncomfortable." Tucking a strand of her blonde hair behind her ear as she crossed her legs in front of her. "True. But when you live close by to famous sites you kind of get immune to all the hype, you know what I mean?"

"It gets easier the longer you do it but nothing beats a bed." Renee sighed happily and patted the mattress beneath her. "Totally. San Jose's only an hour from San Francisco. You can only drive over the Golden Gate so many times before it's just another bridge." "At least we are in New York now. All kinds of interesting things here...like the Statue of Liberty." Tandy smirked looking at the blank walls, "So Renee, what do you like to do for fun? Anything you hate?"

"Yeah, I've never seen anything in New York. Traveled a lot but not really in the States so much." She was actually looking forward to the chance to see more of the city at some point. "Uh. Hmm. Iiiiiiiii... I like gymnastics. I used to take classes, did the training and stuff, and I always loved that. In the last couple of years I've started running, too, but that's not as cool. I dunno, I need more hobbies." She laughed a little. "And hate. Explosions, for sure. I think a lot of people probably hate those. Not a big fan of school, either, but I don't know that I hate that." It was tough to come up with anything on the spot.

"I can help with hobbies." Tandy gave a sideways smile. "Well we got something in common, I'm not a fan of school either. Homework is just time wasting. But explosion? What type of explosions are we talking about? Are we talking about the big booms? Or blinding light that may have daggers coming out?"

"What kind of stuff do you like to do?" Help with hobbies might be nice. "Homework." Renee rolled her eyes. "It's probably harder to dodge it when you live with your teachers, though. I actually hadn't thought about till now." She bit her lip and shrugged a little. "I was in an explosion when I was younger. It was a really huge one, so like, firecrackers and fireworks even are ok. It's mostly the booms and the fire and stuff."

"Well I like a lot of things. I play video games a lot and I like watching old movies, and new ones I guess. True, damn never thought about the teacher actually living with you. I guess I am still in the summer zone, even if classes are beginning...I think at the end of the month." Tandy said as she tried to think about it, "Oh, I am sorry to hear that. Hey there is a girl here that has firecracker powers, she did an awesome Forth of July set. But I don't go boom loud noises or fire just bright light. But don't worry I am in the hospital wing when it does, its...well its complicated."

"What kind of movies? Never really thought about that as a hobby but I like going to the movies." She nodded and sighed. "Yeah, it's gonna be weird I bet. No faking sick or lying about homework because even if the telepaths didn't know, they probably just saw you doing whatever themselves." Renee shrugged a little, glad the topic moved on quickly. "That's got to suck, though, having to go down there every time you have to use your power. Is there any way you can let it out without doing that? Just shoot the light into the sky or something?"

"Any kind of movies really, the classics, the b-rated ones, I like drama and theater also like old school special effects." Placing her chin on her hand keeping it propped up. "It doesn't happen every time I use my powers it looks like it happens when it..." Realization hit her face as she sat up straight, "It happens when I don't...Why didn't I realize this before.." Looking over at Renee. "I can use my powers just fine, and at the end of the week I don't go to the hospital. Like it has been almost two weeks since I been doing there, granted I was in the hospital wing...but that was different...but I was still using my daggers..." Shaking her head, "Sorry rambling a bit...trying to figure them out you know. What is yours?"

Renee leaned back a little, eyebrows rising as Tandy seemed to have a revelation in front of her. "That's kind of scary. So you have to use your powers, or you end up in the hospital... or at least, like, using them keeps you out of the hospital?" She never thought that could happen with a mutation. "Mine is... I have friends. But they're not really people-friends. They're 'humanoid figures of manifested energy of an as yet unknown origin.'" She even made air quotes. "That's how they described it in California when they found me, anyway. Basically, they're this." She lifted an arm and pointed a thumb back over her shoulder where, slowly--since she didn't want to completely freak her new roommate out--a green translucent humanoid rose up from the bed.

"I have no idea actually, just trying to figure them out myself...for the greater good." Tandy shrugged, but now she had an idea. Now to put it to the test - in a control environment of course. This time it was Tandy to raise an eyebrow. "Energy of unknown origin..." She didn't have time to finish her sentence when she saw a 'ghost' appear out of nowhere. "Holy shit..." Her eyes went big and her mouth dropped. "You can make ghosts...? Are they real? Do they talk?"

"Yeah, it's not solar or magnetic or volcanic or anything they were able to identify. I'm hoping we can figure it out here, you know?" She reached back and patted the figure on its arm. They always had such a great effect. "They do kinda look like ghosts, huh? They're totally real, like, solid and they can do things like pick me up or pick other stuff up, but they can also go through walls or beds or other barriers. They don't talk, though. No talking, no chains clanking, none of that stuff."

"That is like totally awesome. So you can make them clean your room?" Tandy giggled at the thought. "Can you make one or a lot?"

"Oh, absolutely. Laundry, housework, the whole deal. I can make a few, not a ton. I'm hoping as I get better with my powers I can learn to make more maybe. It'll be like that scene in Lord of the Rings where all the green guys come out and swarm over the ship." She couldn't think of another instance with that kind of volume of ghosts.

Tandy smiled at her new roommate, "You totally made an Lord of the Rings reference, you shall be my new favorite. But that would be pretty sweet. Green guys all over the place...can totally set up pranks for people with this type of power."

"Eeeeexcellent." Renee beamed. She was a favorite! "Oh, absolutely. It's just a little tricky because if I can't see them I also can't see what they're doing so they're a lot harder to control. Like, it's easy to think, 'OK, go downstairs and get me a drink out of the fridge,' but it's tougher to actually make it happen."

"So...your telling me they also have a mind of their own?" Tandy asked.

"Oh, no, that'd be creepy. No, it's more like..." She wrinkled her nose and tried to figure out how to explain it. "Like, imagine you have a paint brush, right? You can use it easily enough when it's in your hand, but if you put it on the end of a ruler it'd be harder and the longer the ruler got, the harder it'd be to paint the picture. Kind of like that."

Tandy let out a sigh of relief, that was a little creepy. Renee's example was really good and painted a clear picture in Tandy's head. "I see I see. Either way that is pretty handy. So have you gotten the tour of the entire mansion yet?"

"Yeah, it's pretty cool. Honestly, I can't wait to see what I can do when I get more training." She shook her head. "Not yet!"

"Alright lets go. We can stop by the kitchen and get something to eat if you are hungry." Tandy said as she jumped of her bed.
"Rock on." She followed Tandy's lead. "I am pretty much always hungry. That's a given."
