Lorna and Angel patrol. And talk. And talk. And talk. And patrol.
All was quiet.
Well, okay, that wasn't totally true. It was a concert, things were very, very far from quiet. But as far as explosions and chaos and mass hysteria went, well...the concert was a bit lacking. Angel and Lorna were patrolling together, keeping a close eye on the goings on around them. And maybe moping a little.
"We were so close," Angel sighed, tugging for a moment at her ponytail before letting her arm fall back to her side. "So close."
Keeping her eyes out for anything suspicious, Lorna put her hands into her pocket and sighed, "Yea. And too bad they don't do refunds or exchanges...was really looking forward to watching Lion King on Broadway. How long are they in town for again? Maybe we can get a showing after this is all said and done with."
Angel watched a group of laughing kids walk by them, shuddering at the thought of the money they'd lost. "I don't even remember what the website said," she said sadly. "We'll have to look it up when we get home. Of course, with our luck, we'll get there and the theater will explode. We should've tried to scalp the tickets or something. Oh wait, that's illegal, isn't it?"
"If that happens then we know that it was never meant to be Angel, lets hope our luck changes for the best." Lorna thought about it for a minute, "If we got caught, not trying to turn you into a criminal or anything. Shoulda gave the tickets to someone at the mansion. At least they wouldn't had gone to waste."
"Aw man, I didn't even think of giving them to anyone else." Another sigh. This was just depressing. "Well, it can only get better from here, right?" Angel asked rhetorically. "I mean, we miss one chance, so obviously we'll get to go next time." Of course, that didn't make it any better they'd missed it this time. "And hopefully the theater won't blow up."
"Cheer up Angel Cake, at least we have music." Pointing towards the stage where the band was playing. "Well lets knock on wood just in case, don't want to jinx ourselves all over again and like something else comes up, like an alien invasion or something."
Angel giggled at the nickname. "Music is always a good thing. Quick, we need wood." She looked around, then shrugged and jokingly knocked her knuckles lightly against the top of her head. "We are due for an alien invasion, after all. It's probably one of the only things that hasn't happened yet. That we know of."
"Or maybe there is an alien invasion going on right now, but they warped our memories and we are just living our lives like we always have...kind of like Matrix style." Lorna said in a matter-of-fact tone. "Reminds me never to fall asleep to Matrix...k?"
Angel's eyes widened to mock-comical proportions, and she looked around quickly. "Oh noooooo, I hope they don't make us choose which pill to take, I'm terrible at making choices like that." She paused for a moment before adding, "So if I ever walk in and you're asleep on the couch and The Matrix is on, can I wake you up and say, 'Welcome to the real world' in a really deep voice?"
Lorna smiled at Angel, "If you can't choose flip a coin for it." Thinking about that scenario of Angel doing that, "If you want to freak me out than sure. But remember, karma goes in circles."
"All right, heads, blue pill, tails, red pill. Good plan." Angel considered Lorna's words for a moment. "Well, I'm not one to mess with karma. Karma is scary. And karma knows where I live."
The music stopped and the next song started up, and touched her ear, "I am going to be deaf by the end of the night...haven't been to a concert in so long. Looks like all is calm...or as calm as it could be at a concert."
Angel tilted her head side to side a couple of times, testing her own hearing. "Well at least the music is good. If we were going deaf for bad music, that just wouldn't be cool." Another group of laughing people walked by - this one sounded drunk. "Well it could be worse. At least no one is lighting anything on fire."
"True. I would want the last thing I hear being an off key solo." Lorna looked over at the group of people laughing, "True. Then again you can handle a small fire. I say when we get back to the mansion, I have a bottle of wine we can open and we can watch the Lion King again and pretend we went and saw it."
"Oooooh, sounds like a plan to me," Angel agreed happily. If they couldn't see it on Broadway, watching it in their suite was the next best option. "Let's do it. We have to sing along to all the songs, though. Remember, that's always a must."
"I remember. It would be hard not to sing along." Lorna looked at the stage as they continued to patrol, "How long is this concert again?" Looking at Angel as she asked the question.
"Um...few hours tonight, few hours tomorrow night, I believe." Angel started humming "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" for a moment as she thought. "Of course, time starts to bleed together when your eardrums are being constantly abused..."
Lorna chuckled and nodded, "Oh, I wonder if they sell those ear plugs..." She was joking but she was starting to seriously consider it.
Angel craned her neck, looking around. "I feel like selling ear plugs at a concert would just...I dunno, defeat the purpose of even coming. Of course, that doesn't mean someone isn't selling them. People will do anything for money..."
"I guess I am just getting older." Lorna sighed and put her hands back into her pockets.
"Old? You?" Angel asked in shock, patting her suite mate's shoulder. "Never. That's just not possible." She meant that in the sincerest possible way, too.
Lorna laughed, "That is sweet of you. Maybe thirty will really be in the new twenty." She stopped walking when they came to a fence. "Time to turn around? Unless you want to peak over the fence to see if anyone is behind it."
"See, now that's the way to look at it," Angel said happily as she eyed the fence. "Ah, what the heck." She hopped up, letting a thermal carry her to the top of the fence so she could look over real quick. "Nope, no crazy people here." And she dropped down again, landing with more of a flourish than what was really necessary. "This way if something does go wrong we can say 'there was nothing behind the fence!'"
Lorna watched Angel's back as she hopped up to check it out and within a couple of seconds she was down next to her. "Oh good. And we do need to check to make sure everywhere is taken into account. Lets head back and maybe we can stop by the food stand, I am getting a little hungry. My treat."
Angel's eyes all but lit up at the mention food. "Awesome! Sounds like a great idea, let's go. You may or may not regret offering to buy for me though. Just warning you now."
"Hey if I thought I would regret it I wouldn't had offered." Lorna said with a wink. "Come lets go and see if there is any crazy people near the food stands."
Angel grinned as they turned and changed directions. "You know, I hear all the crazy people hang out at food stands. So technically we're doing a civic duty by going over there to make sure everything is okay. Or at the very least we're doing our jobs."
"Regardless, don't think anyone would be mad if we got something to eat. As a nutritionist I would know what is best." Lorna smirked as they walked towards the food stands.
"So true," Angel said, nodding sagely. "So, so true." And the fact that the food they were going to get probably wasn't part of a recommended diet was so beside the point.
All was quiet.
