Kyle goes to see Laurie about fixing his hand.

If you didn't know, Kyle's hand looked fine - it wasn't like the fingers were bent backwards, and he could even move them. But the first knuckles of three of his fingers didn't quite bend, and his claws were out - more so than usual, the full length almost curving over his fingertips. He came into the med lab carrying a small metal container which he handed to Laurie. "I got you awesome British tea. Don't tell Dori, she'll be all Tea, earl grey, hot, and then I will have to admit I get that joke and dude, I have lost all my coolness dating that girl."

"You had coolness?" Laurie replied with a grin, taking the metal container and placing it behind her on the desk. She'd been dropping off paperwork in Jean's office, figured it was easier finishing it now then coming back later. "Besides, I don't think you'd actually care as long as she was happy, right?"

"Yeah, I may or may not have used the l-word." Kyle said, sheepishly. "If you tell anyone, I'll kick.." he blinked a few times, and shook his head, and then shrugged. "Anyway. anyway. Yeah, I totally got her a blue .. phone booth police thingy shirt. You know, go to England, get in a fight, break all my fingers, get presents, get on the Blackbird and come home." he waved the bad hand at Laurie. "Thumb and pinky are fine, clean breaks, but I can't get the other three to set."

"Some day we're all going to have to do a trip overseas that does not include breaking up idiots with delusions of grandeur," Laurie noted, gesturing for him to give her his hand. "Do you want me to give you some endorphins for this?"

"Depends on how much you think it's gonna hurt and how many times you want to hear me say the f-bomb." Kyle said. "I mean, what are we looking at here? Snap and reset, or like, pop the tendons or what are we talking here?"

"I won't know until you give me your hand and let me check it out," Laurie replied with a shrug. "It could just be bones but I'll need to manipulate in order to tell if there's tendon damage. Either way, it'll sting when I reset the bones as I'll have to do them individually."

Laurie's voice had fallen into what her friends had often called her 'being a med student' cadence, as if she were reciting from a text book rather then talking to a friend. She wrinkled her nose as she realised it, and smiled in apology.

"Sorry, I've been studying, sort of gets me into a zone."

"It's all good." Kyle said. "Lets just get it done and over with. I'll suck it up and you can nail me with your powers whammy if it looks like I'm gonna barf from pain or something." He demonstrated wiggling his thumb and pinky for Laurie, and then the other three fingers, to show the difference. "It's about a 2 on the pain scale, but I can't retract my claws on those fingers."

Laurie took a hold of his hand and gently probed the flesh around the fingers he was having problems with, she could feel the heat coming from the damaged digits but she was going to have to be rougher if she really wanted to figure out what was going on. She set her face into a blank mask of professionalism as she bent his injured fingers upward and then curled them back into his palm, testing their flexibility and the underlying feel of the tendons.

"You've got multiple phalange fractures that I can feel, just like you said. How do your palm and knuckles feel?" she asked him, breathing out softly and finally glancing up at him. "It feels like you may have a few misaligned tendons as well from the resistance."

"My finger bones are broken, didn't heal right and my tendons are fucked up?" Kyle asked. "So basically what I figured." He'd winced a few times as she was manipulating his fingers, and now as she bent them, he set his teeth so as to not make more faces - or start growling or something. "People words, remember? I know what a phalange is, but only because I watch a lot of TV."

Medical shows. So great to listen to while doing homework. Or maybe grading it now.

"Fingers first then," Laurie replied with a grin, taking a hold of his hand more firmly and re-breaking the first of the problem fingers, once she got those aligned, she'd be able to manipulate the tendons back into proper alignment. "I assume the person who did this came off second best?"

"Ow, fuck." Kyle's other hand scraped the top of the table with each snap of bone, digging more claw-marks into an already claw-marked surface. It clearly was not the first time he'd been in this situation. "Well, I walked away with more injuries, but he's the one who lost. I bounced his head off the ground, he threw rocks at me. I hate fighting psis."

"Most of us dislike fighting psis...well, except those of us who are psis," Laurie noted, snapping the last of his broken bones back into proper alignment. "And you don't have the advantage of a distance power. How'd you managed to take him out?"

"You're not a psi, you're just like a super doctor." Kyle said. "Eh, dude didn't really think about the fight and I pissed him off and then jumped on him. You know, how most of my fights work when I'm not getting my guts ripped out or something."

"I didn't say...," Laurie replied with a confused look, and then realised what she'd said. "Oh! No, I meant X-men who are psis don't mind fighting psis, not that I'm one...and I'm over explaining. Anyway, you didn't have backup with you?"

She splayed his fingers outward, feeling along them to make sure she'd aligned the bones properly, before starting to work on getting his tendons to sit in their proper order.

"I did but it was kinda a numbers thing. There's a report, probably Yvette's, I think she was on report duty, but it might be Angel cause it was her thing." Kyle explained, voice breaking once as Laurie rolled a tendon back into place. "It's fine, it wasn't like he was Doc Jean or anything. Little too much like fighting that Lense dude, but eh, you know, if all I come out of it with is some fingers that need fixing, I call it a win."

"Definite win, especially when you factor in disembowelment to broken finger ratio," Laurie noted, working the last of his tendons back into place before working her way back up his hand to roll the wrist gently. Soft tissue damage was usually the first thing any healing factor fixed but that didn't mean a professional hand massage after all that pain wasn't helpful also. "I haven't had a chance to read many reports lately."

"Dude, you know Scott's gonna be all up on your ass if you don't." Kyle said. "Also seriously, are you cheating? Because that feels way better than it should." He didn't smell her power, but hand massages weren't supposed to feel that good. "I mean, seriously, like, really good. Not like, need to change my pants good, just like, warm towel outta the dryer good."

"I know, it's just hard to get back into everything, I've got all the study for medical school to do but I guess mostly I'm just procrastinating," Laurie admitted, pressing gently into his palm to work the muscles there. "And maybe a little bit, I've been practicing single spot emission, confining my powers to different parts of my body, you know? Fingers and hands seem to be easiest right now."

"Load 'em onto whatever tablet reader you're using and we'll go get midnight deli food." Kyle suggested. "Chicken fried steak. You know you want it. Waffles and pecans. Chicken and waffles." His stomach growled - half the food talk and half the healing factor chewing through his dinner. "Well, whatever you're doing, it's working because damn. I mean, damn."

"Only if you let me do the voices," Laurie replied, finally letting go of his hand. "I still leak a lot, it's harder to keep things all centered on one little spot. I guess my body doesn't like being all 'No exuding from all pores'."

"You can totally do the voices. You do pull off a pretty mean Scott being all grr grr stay serious people." Kyle said. He tightened his fingers into a fist and then released them a few times, and then slid his claws in and out. "All good here in Dept of My Knuckles..." he said, showing Laurie the movement of his claws. "Come on, I'll buy you dinner for fixing my hand and you can buy my dessert for letting you practice your bedside manner on me."

"You're on," Laurie replied, gesturing for him to go ahead of her. "Just let me grab my keys and I'll meet you down at the cars?"
