Log: Kurt and Jubilee

Jubilee makes good on her surprise, and Kurt has something to discuss.
Jubilee grinned up at her boyfriend, patting the empty space she'd left on the blanket she'd laid out on the front lawn of Xavier's. It was a beautiful day out, warm but not quite as hot as most days this summer had been. She'd figured when she saw the weather forecast that it was the perfect day to be outside, and considering how little time she'd had to spend with him lately, she couldn't think of anyone but Kurt that she'd want to spend it with.
"Surprise!" she said.
He smiled broadly as he settled on the blanket, reaching for her hand. "And such a nice one, for a lovely day. Thank you for thinking of it."
Jubilee allowed her hand to be claimed, threading her fingers through his own as she used her free hand to reach for the cheese and bread she'd brought with her. She also hooked a bottle of juice and offered it to him.
"I figured we could use some time together that wasn't surrounded by a whole bunch of other people, I kinda wanted you to myself outside of the bedroom, ya know?"
He took the bottle and set it down, propped against his leg. "Of course. Not that there is anything wrong with the bedroom, at all, but a relationship is more." He added, amused, "And anyone interrupting here will be chased off in no uncertain terms."
"My hero," Jubilee noted with a grin, pulling her legs up so she could rest her chin against her knees. "Tell me something you haven't told me before?"
"About myself? Well, there is something I had been meaning to bring up, just in case... it mattered." He seemed hesitant and glanced at her sideways. "With your job, it may even please you, but you should know there will be no children. Ever."
"I didn't realise you'd started imagining me pregnant," Jubilee joked, eyebrows raised. "You suddenly decide you hate kids or something?"
It wasn't exactly the kind of information she'd been looking for, but she had told him to tell her something he hadn't. Children...yeah, not a conversation she would have thought they'd be having at this particular juncture, but she wasn't averse to having it, just a little heebie-jeebied at the idea of kids and her being anywhere in the same sentence.
"You were so honest with me", he said with a shrug. "I wanted to reciprocate and that was the most important thing you did not yet know. And no, I love children, which is why I will not subject them to my genes. Or to what my mother might choose to do."
"Okay, your mother? I totally get that, like totally," Jubilee replied, leaning forward to grab his other hand, pulling them both toward her. "But what's so wrong with your genes? I don't want to be all flippant or anything, but from my point of view, they're pretty damn awesome."
"They do have a good number of perks", he agreed with a crooked grin, shifting closer as she tugged on his hands. "But being undisguisedly different from birth is a fairly major down side."
"Only because people are assholes who need to be kicked in the ass," Jubilee noted, letting go of one of his hands to cup his cheek as he came within range. "You are one of the most open hearted, kind and honorable people I know, any kid would be lucky to get even a quarter of that. But I get it, yeah? You don't want your kids having to deal with those asses every day for something they didn't even have a choice in. "
"Exactly", he said with a nod, leaning into her touch. "As for the kind and honorable... I like to think I can pass that on without being a blood father. The students here are my children, and perhaps one day I will adopt again."
"I'm glad you're not giving up on Dadhood completely, also glad we're not like, super excited about the idea of me ever being up the duff, cause I gotta tell ya, it's not anywhere in my life plan, yeah?"
Kurt chuckled, looking at her with warm amusement. "Somehow I did not think it would be - but you are still a young woman, sometimes these things can change, so I thought best to make my position clear as early as possible. And now it is your turn. Tell me something I do not know."
"I hate the colour puce?" Jubilee replied almost immediately, biting her lip as she looked away before continuing on. "I have the world's largest supply of ridiculous hats and I used to steal money off people I had sex with in Madripoor."
"There is a bright colour you hate?" he asked teasingly, then sobered, fingers twining more tightly through hers. "You did what was necessary to survive, meine Feuerwerkin, and Madripoor is a very hard place. I am sorry you had to, but I am glad you came through."
"I don't get you sometimes, you know," Jubilee admitted, looking down at their entwined fingers. "Doesn't seem to matter what I tell you, it never makes you pause. Sometimes I feel like I want to do something just so you'll turn away, and then I feel bad for being so fucked in the head and still not telling you to get as far away from me as you possibly can."
Kurt hesitated, then lifted his free hand to tip her face towards him, pressing a brief gentle kiss to her lips before looking into her eyes. "I promised not to turn my back on you, and I do not think you could do anything that would make me, not while still being the person you are now. You could even tell me to go and I would not, unless I thought it was really what you wanted. You may be broken, Jubilee, but the woman I see is bright and very beautiful all the same."
"I don't think I am," Jubilee said, resting her fingers gently against his cheek as she searched his eyes, unable to turn away from the redemption she craved there, the gaze of a good man. "But that you think so, maybe that'll be enough."
